Yeah, so buddhist isn't a god, but his teachins are so powerful. Have any of you seen how much control buddhist have over their minds. Some at the upper end the enlightened spectrum can control their body heat. They can walk around outside in zero degree weather in nothing but a togga(sp?). I think that some go over the edge when they light themselves on fire though. I want moderate control of my mind. A happy meadium. I think that is why western medecine and buddhism clash in my beliefe. But i'm certain that OUR(ANY) old gov't would like to have their soldiers have the disipline of a high ranking(lack of better term) buddhist monk. To do the fighting when all the stops have been pulled out. Am I making sense. sorry. I'm new at posting. I suppose one thought per post so confusion doesn't run rampant

It's a stated fact that Buddhism is first and foremost a Practise, as opposed to religion. However it is not a philosophy or a Way Of Life, it is still a religion... these are facts I'm pulling right out of my text book, I'm not arguing here.

The different "degrees" of buddhism are the same as different kinds of Muslims (eg: Sunni, Sufi, etc) or the different kinds of Christians (eg: catholics, protestants, etc) ...every religion has different schools; some schools being more rigorous than others. ...I'm just sayin'

And yes, we're straying from the origional topic. That's because the origional topic is stupid. Lets change the name of the thread so that we can talk about this...

I would tend to think that either Jesus or Buddha could easily bi-locate at will, and we all know that space and time are only Toe>Op Out>Op Toe's anyway so there really is no where to race to. This makes the donkey pretty much irrelevant (except that it makes it a trick question), and the race is a TIE. At least that's one way to look at it

Don't know if you've noticed, but that was simply a cut and paste of an article by Sam Harris about how Buddhism needs to stop being a religion, if it is one.

It's completely related to the discussion that happened a few posts above where people were discussing if Buddhism is a religion or not. Sam Harris has been studying Eastern religions for 20 years at Standford and probably has an opinion relevant to that discussion.

You may feel that a completely meaningless topic is "fun" but probably some of the rest of us would prefer to build that topic into something with some more significance. If you just want to keep the topic mundane then keep your posts mundane. I certainly won't attempt to stop you from keeping the intellectual level of the discussion down and so it is surprising that you attempt to stop me from adding completely relevant opinions on the subject.

And finally, I have never said that God is evil. I am not superstitious.

edit: How interesting that you think you can speak for everybody on the forum. Why is that?

edit2: Neither Jesus or Buddha would participate in such a race, based on what they taught. I don't even know who the topic is referring to when it says "Buddha". I would assume you're mean Siddhartha Gautama but Buddhism actually teaches that there have been 28 different Buddhas. If the race did go ahead and the Buddhists were allowed to pick their best Buddha, surely they would win. In any event, Buddhism is much stronger in its teachings about gaining control of your body and I think that would lead to them winning. There is also some evidence to suggest that Jesus was a Buddhist.

yeah sorry about that, i didn't mean it like that, and i'm sorry if i made an ass out of myself in that post. i wasn't trying to speak for everyone on the forum. i was just trying to keep it from being some kind of religious arguement that said 'i'm right your wrong.'
