MJK:

I've never seen the gun companies formenting revolution in this country. That might be legitimate marketing campaign in many countries that need a revolution.

I've noticed recent campaigns targeted at women, but I think this is good thing. Maybe make the rapists think twice (or three times).

And I actually think there is a gay gun club(WooHoo! keeping with the thread topic), in a city I can't remember, called the "Pink Pistols" or something like that.

It is also reported that in the US, of all fatal gunshootings involving a home invader 2% involve the home owner shooting the invader and 98% involve either the homeowner shooting themself, another family member, or the invader taking the gun off them and shooting the homeowner.

I have to think that is a rigged statistic, the numbers are way to skewed. Similar to the "13 children die every day from guns" quote. There is no evidence this is true, though it is accepted as fact. Also, anyone under the age of 21 is considered a "child".
So,
Legal adults, killed in a gang shootout = children
The cops shoot an armed 20-year-old suspect = a child

You raise a valid point, many armed people have no training or common sense. One of the first rules of firearms is, "Know your target".

A less heard statistic, is how many police officers accidentally shoot themselves, or have their guns taken away and are shot by suspects. This would be somewhat expected, because they are armed at a higher rate than the rest of the population.

I saw on the news tonight, a one-armed man robbed a Taco Bell with a shotgun. While he was stuffing the bag full of money, the cashier slid over the counter and grabbed the shotgun, telling him not to move. The robber ran off and jumped into the getaway car and escaped(without the money I think).
If they had any brains, the one-armed guy would have drove the getaway car, and a guy with two arms would have been the gunman. Maybe they both only had one arm each?

Just last night around where I live a cop was chasing after a criminal, pulled out his gun, and managed to shoot himself.

I would like to at least see a civil union type solution, and i think it should be available to homo and heterosexual couples. I think states endorsing marriage as a form of stability makes as sense like endorsing war as path to peace.

war as a path to peace never makes sense. I think an adequet definition of peace would be "absence of war" Also history shows us that most wars are created by the wars that went before them (First and second world war, Vietnam, Korea, Israel, Chechna, Iraq, Afghanistan, Mexico, Colombia) Infact I can't think of a war that has began since the 20th centuary that was not caused (in some part) by the wars leading up to it.

I'm not I understand how the question suggests that the intelligence of homosexual people is lesser than that of heterosexual people. But on a side note, it seems that modern countries often have a higher rate of divorce than countries where marriages are pre-arranged etc. I know, that statistic is fully rigged but not quite as badly as one might suspect. Couples that were married due to pre-arrangement in 'less modern' countries that moved to modern countries seem to have a lower rate of divorce than the love-driven marriages. There are other factors that may have affected this impression but perhaps it also comments on the idea of marriage being driven by love alone. Perhaps the question that could be asked is 'what is love?'. Surely the love between a couple of newlyweds bound for divorce, or even bound for a lifetime of matrimony, is a different type of love then that shared between a couple of 90 years olds who have spent several decades together.

With the notion of whether states should be the ones endorsing marriage as stability, are your reasons for disagreeing because there is such a diverse population that can be found in a state and therefore people with similar ideals should flock together? I probably mis-interpreted but I think that idea would only work if each flock were to remain in an enclosed environment. States are probably given the power because they are considered to (possibly) be large enough to maintain diversity yet small enough to deal with issues within its territory and population.

This war wasn't.....this war was caused by greed, dishonesty, and cultural intolerance.

Nah, I agree with Jeremy. History contributes to the circumstances of war. WWI,WWII, American atomic dominance, Cold War, Iran/Iraq as pawns, Gulf war I never really ended, WTC and pentagon attacks, current Iraq campaign, Russian and Chinese posturing the whole time.

Peace is achieved by victory, not an endless fight(like Israel vs. Arab world)

MJK got it right when he said the current war was caused by cultural intolerance.....

Perhaps we, as Americans need to be more sensitive and tolerant of the following cultural practices:

Voting rights for men only
Women as property
Complete religious control of government
Beatings of women exposing to much skin in public
Official rape squads
Beheading of pregnant women
Execution of rape victims(for adultery)
Torture and killing of homosexuals
Minority persecution
Female circumcision.

Who are we to assume that our culture is any better than the ones listed above?

Sexism is alive and doing very well in the US of A my friend. Just because we have all these nice "laws" on the books does not make us any more civilized or superior to a country that doesn't.

"Women as property"

Seen a budweiser commercial recently? Women are viewed as property in this country as much as anywhere else.

"Complete religious control of government"

Do you honestly think there is a sperartion of chruch and state in the USA??? That's laughable.

"Beatings of women exposing to much skin in public"

Instead, here, it would seem women are chatized for not exposing enough skin.

All of these things you say that we cannot tolerate in other countries are things that we have problems with ourselves here in the US. And we have no right to act high and mighty and go into any country and say we know how to solve those problems. Especially with bombs and guns.

You cannot bomb the culture out of people. You can invest money into education and infrastructure and what happens is up to the people that live there.

The USA is by no means superior to any other country on the planet.

---Moving back to the topic of this thread---

Is anybody else sick of all the gay stories we hear everyday in the news and on T.V.?

You can't get away from it. Every news program has multiple gay stories, there is a gay character on almost every reality show. T.V. sitcoms with gay characters play 2 or 3 times a day.

I think I will post a poll about the media overkill.

Oh yeah, and I'm not going to use the word "gay" anymore.
Using the word gay somewhat implies that all homosexuals are happy.

Wrong. They are many reasons why our nation is superior than many failed, miserable, hell-on-earth dictatorships. We should not adopt any of these failed cultures. And we should fight the influx of these cultures into the U.S.
Just because a man beats his wife and sells his daughters to others, for example, doesn't mean I have to respect his culture and homeland. In fact I might call him backward and uncivilized.

Perhaps, I, and other "anti-americans" should be more sensative and tolerant of a goverment that continues to support nations and in many cases, put the leaders in power, with the following cultural practices:
Voting rights for men only
Women as property
Complete religious control of government
Beatings of women exposing to much skin in public
Official rape squads
Beheading of pregnant women
Execution of rape victims(for adultery)

Fuck that was an arrogant post. The US produces more rubish per person than any ther country, it uses more water, creates more green house gas emmissions, it eats more food, uses more fossile fuels, bombs more countries, produces more nuclear waste and has the arrogance to say that they have the a better culture than other nations. And the fact that Australia is just as bad (only smaller) doesn't mean anything - at least I can see that.

Sorry to double post, but I didn't read down from that last post.
Which is better? A nation that steals the worlds resources, supports hell-on-earth dictatorships, and then bombs the fuck out of the whole nation when they are no longer useful, or a hell-on-earth dictator that oppresses his people. I would say neither. I would say they both suck just as much. Give me the third choice.

Well.... 6 out of your 7 U.S. complaints have to do with environmental issues(boring). And some of those have major holes.

Uses more water? Who's water are we stealing? Last I liked looked, Mexico was breaking their treaty and not sending any back into Texas.

Greenhouse emissions? Maybe you haven't noticed that brown cloud over Southeast Asia. Must have been American's buying cheap toys made by slaves in China.
Besides, the E.P.A. just said that "greenhouse emissions are not pollutants." If those rabid treehuggers say so , then it must not be that bad.

Eats more food? If we ate less, would that stop food aid from rotting on the docks of poor nations?

yeah, I'll say it again: Our culture is better than many piece-of-shit- nations-we-are-thankful-not-to-live-in.

paradox.symposium.

The "U.S. eats to much, drinks to much, pollutes to much...." mantra is getting so boring.

I vote yes...I don't see the need to prevent people from fullfilling what ever they want to fill...no matter how oddly shaped the container may be to me. I don't understand how so many people want to have the same type of ceremony as everyone else. I'd personally like something more...personal. The point of the whole hospital visit/seperation and distribution of belongings did come up though. I don't really agree with that...seems a little hypocritical...like giving your oath in court...or "In God We Trust" on currency. ~Nyk
