I definitely agree that these competitions have no spectator value, but if stitchers want to have a little event amongst themselves, I'm all for it.

dave and I were just talking, and we thought a good idea would be to have everyone stitch a bag 2 months before worlds, and break it in and get it just right, and then bring THAT to worlds, because, everyone knows, a bag's true worth isn't shown until it's broken in.

ooo, and we could have a panel of judges (no pun intended) aaaand... hmm... winner take all? that could be a sweet way to win a pile of bags.

I think the idea of a most beutiful bag competition sounds cool, or atleast the idea of a sick bag from tons of stichers all lined up sounds nice to me. I think once a bag is broken in it looses some of its asthetic values. Though judging this or any "best shredable" bag comp would be just crazy.

AND PLEASE MAKE MORE REGULAR COLOR COMBO BAGS PEOPLE!!!
all these gobstoper and radiator combos are breaking my heart

david wrote:Bags just don't matter that much. There is no need to give credit to a stitcher before you do a routine with his bag. You could've just bought one like it from some other kid.

I play with certain bags because I have the option, but if I had to play with stuff I don't like I could adapt. It's like playing in my quantums, I can if I have to.

I think devoting a world competition to something that is just arts and crafts is a bit silly, and your time should be spent on playing footbag, not making them.
1.bags do matter much my friend.. i would like u to hit as good as u can with some shithead bag..
2.the credit should be given.. every sportsmen show off who supports him - brands-and if someone works for a brand its not my problem.. brand gets the credit..
3. i mind u can buy a BroÄ
..do your best and fuck the rest..

i agree with david...

keep in mind what i say is an opinion to you (fact to me)
i think holding a stitchers' stitching tourney/party/whatever is just a lame excuse to not footbag at worlds. its a footbagging tournament where you can show your stuff, work out your kinks on your moves, learn new tricks, kick till you hurt then kick more. im not that good at kicking yet. but ive been to 4 tournaments since i started kicking 4 months ago and what ive come to realize is that the people who are sitting down stitching while everyone else is kicking are too shy because (a)they think they suck (b)they feel intimidated (c)are too tired or (d)they think they dont fit in. i could be wrong or maybe just what ive seen isnt like the majority of footbag events.

and you know what, ive done it. ive felt intimidated in kicking circles and sat down to stitch... but i quickly realized how fucking lame that is and put down my stitching and watched people kick. i understand wanting to see how others stitch their bags, but why does it have to be an official stitchers only party? isnt that just isolating a group from a sport that needs unity most of all?

and about stitchers needing credit. picking up a newly stitched bag and shredding is going to be a lot different than picking up a broken in bag and shredding. if you want props for a nicely stitched bag then you mail out your bags, let them have time to be broken in, and look for them in shred circles at tourneys. seeing your bag being used in a tournament (without you asking the footbagger to) is probably the most reward youre going to get. and thats the best props ever.

i feel like having a stitching party/tournament/shindig is just an excuse to not footbag. youll have plenty of times to hang out with different stitchers at worlds... you dont have to isolate and seperate.

well holly...that sure is quite the opinion. so you've been playing footbag for 4 months? so you've never been to a worlds before? so I assume you can only guess how one is run. How long does worlds run for? I honestly don't know. but considering people will eat, shit and sleep...I guess then they'll be playing footbag for at least 15 hours a day for as many days as worlds runs. do you do that on a normal basis for any two days in a row? of course these are all rhetorical questions...but the thread may not need your idea of the facts when you have only your thoughts/opinions to base your statement on.

I imagine everyone that is against the idea of a stiching contest/circle is still going to look at bags they will buy or want to buy. MR.Brocka never implied that the stitching would be an alternate to the worlds comp, so why talk like it would take away from it?

Now that I think of it....if you are not a stitcher, why offer your YAY or NAY when you wouldn't be involved? And if you are a stitcher who isn't interested why even state your negativity?

Edit: in response to your reply holly, my post was made to sound objective, but the way I read your previous post, it seemed to be "talking down" to people who wanted to stitch or who didn't shred like an athelete all day long.

i am a stitcher. worlds is a week or so. i "stated my negativity" because i have the right to and because my opinion counts just as much as yours. you dont have the right to talk down to me just because i havent been kicking long.

i think nonstitchers have no say whatsoever in this. so thanks for your input, but frankly i dont give a fuck.

if you dont want to participate, dont.

im going to stitch at worlds. just like i did at nyj in my down time. i even sold said footbag made at nyj. astonishing, i know.

id actually like to stitch with others. maybe someone could teach me something.

if i have an entire week to view, play, eat, sleep, and shit footbag, im going to stitch some when i rest. that way, maybe i can pocket that extra 30-60$.

i think bringing a new bag, and a broken in bag would be the best way to show off your talents and how your bags end up. maybe bring in the same color combo.
(if they were displayed like at the sales booth or "stitchers gallery table").

Well, whatever. If there is a competition organized for stitching at World's this year, I wouldn't mind entering. How the specifics may be, I wouldn't know. I would have to be informed about it because I don't check modified too much these days.

I like the idea that Matt and David proposed (stitching a bag 2 months in advance, break it in, and show it's worth at World's) since it seems pretty logical. However, a lot of other things can be made abundant, so I don't know if showing the rate of bag break-in can be relevant (like stitching a bag loosely compared to one that is stitched tightly). That's why I agree it is mostly an arts & crafts things, because everyone has a different style they can call their own with footbags. It's all very cool.

And I don't know about judging quality in bags. Does break-in increase it's value or not? I mean, I try to stitch as even and patiently as possible to make a new and super cool bag, so the process of breaking it in seems fulfilling and heartbreaking as well. It's like a double-edged sword once you think about it.

I can tell you this, though - I'll take a day or two to be in a stitching circle, and I will have fun, because that's the type of person that I am. I appreciate stitching and all its wonderments. Sure, I find alot of other things much more fun than stitching, but to spend a whole week for footbag only is rather apparent. As long as you appreciate the sport, you can appreciate most of the specific qualities that it has, especially stitching and/or playing. And yeah, I think playing a footbag is much more fun and important than stitching, but that's me.

And I agree with Nasty: no more of these radiations or gobstoppers. It was fun at a time, but now everyone is doing it. Regular 32s need more love, people. Random designs are also fun, like a regular 32 with a few hexes/pents out of the usual color fray is cool. There's a whole plethora of other things you can do with a 32 (Peter Brocka proved that to me with one of the bags he's sent me), but it's important that the most basic of designs are still very cool. As long as your stitching and template measurements are good, it will look (and play) well.

Oh, and people should also start making more 10/10 Blur bags. Just me, again.
