I wanted to bitch, and there's no better place than modified.
Having girlfriend issues, having parent issues, having money issues, having shcool issues, having work issues... pretty much the only thing that I'm not having problems with is making new kinds of footbags.
My game isn't where it used to be, but I always say that, and I always mean it. It always seems as though I could be doing better, and every time I give highlights of a session, it's like one or two different stirngs and a few good combos and a hard trick for 3 hours of work. Even though I detest highlights, here is some from the past week or so:
32 genuine (about 70% of it was tripless)
New beast: Maelstrom > food > whirlwind
downtime symposium barrage (working on pixie and paradox)
cool 4 > 4 link: Nuke op pickup > enterage (double pixie legover, but I do it like a flurry, almost all midtime)

Gyro Barroque
Cleaned both dexes of spinning barroque, but couldn't get the osis
Sjff was really fun, I was playing more consistantly then ever before the first two days, and pretty well the third day after I warmed up for three hours. I had lots of fun shredding with the Nevada guys, and Byrin. I wish I could spend more time with those guys, especially Byrin becuase I don't ever get to see him anymore. Byrin really is an amazing shredder, if he plays well this worlds, I'm sure he'll make BAP. I may, and I may not, but either way i don't care that much anymore.
In Seattle, Sam Potter gave some great advice. Don't stretch. I haven't stretched like I used to and now I don't get sore after sessions and I can play more and for longer. I do stretch out my ankles a little and losen up my legs a bit, but I don't spend 10 minutes tretching before a session, and I don't hurt anymore. That may come back and bit me in the balls later, but who's to say I won't like it?
I've found that I try to be funny sometimes and it never works out. I try to be a lot of things that I'm not. All I really want out of life is a job I enjoy, a good realationship with a girl I love, and to play footbag like a motha fucka. Is that too much to ask?

Don't lie Nick, I saw you hit giro baroque and a 5-5-6-5-6-5 combo (or was it 5-5-6-5-5-6), on top of a lot of other stuff that Jorden would appreciate. At least your ankle is not possibly broken (how's that for a footbag injury!) I get x-rays next week. I figure, what the heck, it's the off season, and I would have rather had it happen to me than one of the newer players. The injury is the same foot that had two broken toes courtesy of Jim Penske, guess the footbag gods don't favor my right side.
On a good note, three new players joined the group, Thomas -21 (who we kicked with, then went out and celebrated his 21st in the proper fashion), Carlo -18, who has more hops than even Jake Wren (kid weighs a buck 10 at most), and our old friend Aaron Shepard (26), who will be kicking with us about once a week, or when he is in town (guy travels a lot). Aside from that, there are quite a few other things happening in Portland... but that's for another post. Keep up the good work Sole Purpose!

Another good session for the Sole Purpose Group. Due to the holiday break, it has been a couple of weeks since the group met up. Most of the regulars showed up. Still recovering from a footbag injury, I took to the sidelines to root the team on. I was pleasantly shocked at the aggressive every shredder was playing, even joking that I did not want to come back if everyone was going to continue to play that good. The group has definitely taken a life of it's own. We were short four people who usually kick in the PDX area, but the shredders that were at the session really showed some great stuff.
Shawn Johnson: Hit Mullet on command, both side Tomahawks, and some pretty strong shuffle links.
Steffan Siegert: Even more impressive two/three bag stuff on top of some of the highest add ratio combos I have seen him do. Witnessed the best combo I have ever seen him hit, 30+ with a good amount of fives as well as the usual creative stuff.
Carlo (?) The newest (and youngest) member of our group, was dexing a good deal more than last time, working flip clippers and osis. Impressively, he had zero intimidation to kick in a circle with much advanced players. Contrary, he got pretty pumped up kicking with Nick and Steffan, a good sign for sure.
Nick Landes: I am pretty used to Nick showing up and throwing something impressive and new every session, so this was really no different. He started with a great many ducking and spinning combos, very much resembling Ricky Moran in creativity and difficulty. I asked him, and he said he had been studying Ricky's game from Fourkast. It showed. Nick went on to hit a bunch of great high add combos, most of which I couldn't keep straight. What I do remember was Nick asking me what was left on the checklist, I told him four triple dexes in a row. He then proceeded to hit (for the first time) Fog-Smog-Pixie Paradon-Flurry into a good combo. Also repeated Rubberman 2 eleven contacts deep, one move short of two times around, I believe. His Swifter Dragon was very nice as well.
Jake Wren: Jake won the award for most improvement in a short time. He made a big jump somewhere between SJFF and now. Throughout the evening, Jake hit; Mobius both sides, Spinning Paradox Whirl both sides, Blurry Whirl both sides, paradox torque both sides, atom smashers back to back, pixie whirls both sides, and so on (many within the same combo, but I would stop short of calling it BSOS not being guiltless or sometimes tiltless). Also some great Spanish Fly attempts, and Malstrom off his foot.
Also witnessed Fog on at least one side, don't know if he hit it flip or not. I congratulated him on his massive improvement, he basically told me his secret, "yeah, I'm not working anymore, so all I do is play!" It shows. Jake also said he wants to be the next posterboy for Sole Purpose, I told him if he keeps up the good work, he might have it.
Hopefully I will be able to shred next week, probably will set up a session with Kenny and ease back into it. Can't wait to kick with the team again, they do Portland proud.

Haven't posted in a while, been pretty busy with the biz. Today however was another good day for Sole Purpose, we had a very good turn out, especially for a rainy cold day.
27 people attended the group kick today. This included high school clicks, PSU students, kickers from around the city, and of course the sponsored team (Nick, Jake, Stefan, Ben). It was a great mix of people, some great shred and good kicking. We promote positivity and a very non competitive environment. People being supportive is the best way to keep them coming back, keeps them pumped on the game, and creates a great social scene (we all hang out!)
There were people from all skill levels, most impressive from the new school was newcomer Alex Bernstein. Three weeks ago this guy was getting his toe stalls and clippers solid, and now he is hitting near guiltless shred of close to 20 contacts, with moves such as drifters, butterflies, osis, paradox mirages, whirls, paradox whirls, torques, and blenders. It's a little unsettling how quick this kid has learned, he just got his shoes recently.
Jake Wren is still on the rise, a few sessions back I saw him do both Mobius, Spinning Paradox Whirls, Vortex, Fog, Superfly, Blurry Whirls and Paradox Torques bsos. He footed Blurry Torque today. We nicknamed him Jim 2, they are built and play the same!
I was also impressed with Ben Schmaltz's shred. He can throw four to five fives pretty much at will, saw him go for Stepping PS Reverse Whirling Swirl today. He does a great job hanging with Nick (high praise). Where Landes plays with finesse, Ben plays with power. I saw him drop the bag to his foot and nail five ps reverse whirls pretty easy. Congrats Ben, you just made the official team!
We also had a pair of newcomers from the east coast, Naomi and Natasha. I was very happy to hear that they had migrated here because of the footbag scene. Special thanks to John Schneider for pointing them this direction!
As happy as I was for the attendance today, unfortunately not all of the members could make it out, including Kenny Shults, Chrisco Jears, Shawn Johnson, Carlo, and the ever absent Noah Jay-Bonn. It might be a pipe dream to get everyone in one spot at the same with this amount of people, but I will continue to work for it.
Business has been good, a bit exhaustive, but worth it. We have been pretty busy with a great many things, including preparing for the 2007 US Open. It's our goal to outdo the last one, it's an honor to work with John Stalberger aka Mr. Hacky Sack. Kenny has been greatly supportive with what we are doing here as well. It was an honor having Kendall KIC convey how glad she was we were continuing the Sole Purpose tradition. Every generation of the group has had a different title, Kendall was from the iKic generation, we are calling ourselves the Fourkast generation of Sole Purpose. In time the presidency and administrative duties will be passed on, it is my hopes that either Nick Landes or Scott Behmer will eventually take on the role and coordinate the next chapter in the group's history.
Well, back to business. There is still a lot of work, the website being updated is one big project, but there are a few things before it that are of greater importance. We encourage everyone to come on out and check out Portland Oregon (Naomi and I have plans for you, Schneider!) Aside from the footbag scene, P-town is a pretty easy and inexpensive place to live, and the universities here (Portland State especially) are pretty supportive of footbag.
Whether you freestyle, play net, or just kick it around, all are welcome to come kick it!
