Hey,
On the knees. My knees hurt a lot when I first started playing. I always thought it was whirls. But I made a video and showed some good players and one pointed out that I wasn't bending my support knee at all. Thus a lot of the impact of footbag wasn't being absorbed. My whirl form wasnt killing me, it was all the impact on the knee not doing the dex (on the support leg).
Pratice doing clipper over and over on the same side. Make sure your support leg is really going down, make sure to cushion. Joints will thank you if you lessen the impact on them. Look at huge tricks like whirlwind, people really sink after them (one of the reasons stepping out of them is awkward for most).
I hope you don't hurt yourself as much as I did. It took a long time to start cushioning but I think I eventually did it and worked out my problems. It also helped to go back and redo my whirl form too. Try to do the dex front to back, not on the side. Make motions natural, so they don't hurt you. It is really trial and error.
Don't overwork yourself, but don't just stop doing the trick. Some people never learn whirls because they hurt, which could be fixed if they just spent some time analyzing themselves. Film yourself from the side and see if your really bending your support leg.
Hope this helps,
DC

Mr. Clavens up there gave me a challenge, and I don't want to forget it:
10 infinity, before I hit a new move.
I also have to build a cell in biology class, so Cody and I are definitely going to make a gigantic footbag (made out of cardboard). It will be split in half, with crazy stuff on the inside, representing organelles.
It'll be sweet, you'll see.
Also - vote in my poll.

There is no inbetween.
Practiced infinities until my legs hurt, only doing one per side.
So I did like, 15 flip infinites and then did 10 strong infinitites (which went much faster than flip, to my dismay)
A little progress, I play a lot better in thin socks, my crank is really bad.
EDIT: Small session in thinner socks. And wouldn't you know it, it was better!
Osis x 4, I'm confident I've done better than this, osis didn't feel too hot in this session. I've never really counted osii before.
Worked infinity some more. Tried a phasing set (JUST ONE!) and I think that's going to be a lot of fun in the future.

In Broadcast Journalism class, Cody has to make a segment for our school announcement type thing about a person, and he's doing me (focusing on footbag).
It's going to rule. I'll rep footbag well.
Well, yeah.
Your every day, normal blog post.
EDIT: Funny story.
I was making a bag last night, about halfway through it. I don't stitch very often at all, but Cody's buying this one so I need to finish it.
Anyways, I was halfway finished with this one after about 3 days of working on it at night (like, an hour at a time) and I was cutting some floss, and there was a hex sticking out. And wouldn;t you know it, that hex was in the perfect spot to be semi-cut in half.
That's what I did.
I was so pissed, for about 30 minutes. This was at one in the morning, mind you and I ended up waking my baby sister. That made matters quite a bit worse.
So today before I left for school, I attached some fabric glue to the cut, on the inside of the bag. It looks like it's working, and you can barely see it on the outside. I don't know how I'm going to stitch around the cut, but I'll find a way. I'm not about to waste all that effort.
Thanks for reading.
EDIT2: I also hit infinity seven times in a row on my flip, and I hit 15 flip infinities before I hit 10 strong.
Progress, no?

For the poll, I think the best way is tiny flick for a simple reason, it takes less energy. That's how Ianek ( he's the reference in footbag in Montreal ) showed them to me and he explained that my old method, even if workable takes more energy so it's harder in long runs. Well, it's up to you to do how you prefer them.

I know exactly how I like mine, my pixie is actually pretty good on my strong side.MatS21 wrote:For the poll, I think the best way is tiny flick for a simple reason, it takes less energy. I was told by someone else that monstrocircle pixies were better looking (not more efficient, just better looking) and he suggested that I do them that way... but I like my tiny flick pixies.

Flip infinity twenty times>strong infinity ten times> rpt x2.
Infinity>infinity 10 times (starting on flip)
Flip infinity 10 times in a row.
Went faster again.
Other stuff seems easier, now.

Well, if you like tiny flick, keeping them is probably the best way to go! But I wasn't trying to tell you how to play, just thought that you we're looking for the best way to do them so I was giving more information.Isilwar wrote: I know exactly how I like mine, my pixie is actually pretty good on my strong side.

I played quite a bit of footbag this weekend.
My legs are sore, and I'm not planning on playing today unless there's an extremely awesome new video that comes out.
I don't really wanna do any highlights from the weekend... didn't work infinity because I was playing in public. I did get 6 of them (tied my record) in Cody's garage.

I got Infinity x 6 like, a billion times. I can't get past it (right now)
Ah well, I'll keep drilling. I'm going to add pdx mirage to my regimen as well.
Like BOP sessions... with whirls.

Well, funny story coming. It truly did happen, I'm not making it up. Ctrl+C'ed from an AIM conversation.
Read it, it's funny.
Just got back from it, as well.
(21:09:35) Isilwar: Funny story coming.
(21:09:45) Isilwar: We were cleaning the garage and stuff.
(21:09:50) Isilwar: You know, putting up car parts and shit.
(21:09:56) Isilwar: Fast pace, working well.
(21:10:02) Isilwar: And then my dad gets a call from my stepmom.
(21:10:19) Isilwar: She's bawling and crap, apparently she got in a wreck.
(21:10:26) Isilwar: "wreck"
(21:10:35) Isilwar: So we drive over to wherever she "wrecked"
(21:10:38) ******* lol
(21:10:41) Isilwar: It was into a tree, you know.
(21:10:50) Isilwar: And the front bumper has like, mild damage.
(21:10:56) Isilwar: Not too big of a deal.
(21:10:58) ******* no
(21:11:03) Isilwar: So anyways.
(21:11:17) Isilwar: Three of us people go up there, and my dad is like SUPER pissed.
(21:11:21) Isilwar: Like, you wouldn't believe it.
(21:11:24) Isilwar: He was so mad.
(21:11:28) Isilwar: For good reason.
(21:11:38) Isilwar: She was trying to park in an icy "driveway".
(21:11:45) Isilwar: It wasn't a driveway, it was somebody's yard.
(21:11:58) Isilwar: So she tried to brake, like on a skating rink.
(21:12:01) Isilwar: But smaller, with trees.
(21:12:08) Isilwar: And hit one of the trees.
(21:12:12) Isilwar: IN SOMEBODY'S YARD.
(21:12:23) Isilwar: So we can't really push it out, you know.
(21:12:29) Isilwar: It's freaking ice.
(21:12:36) Isilwar: But we try to push it anyways.
(21:12:55) Isilwar: So I MacGyver myself some footholds, and get a good grip in my duct-taped lavers.
(21:13:18) Isilwar: So my dad turns the wheel, stomps on the gas, and we start pushing it away from the tree, towards the road.
(21:13:29) Isilwar: First try, no success. Slams right back into the tree.
(21:13:31) ********: lol
(21:13:34) Isilwar: With a resounding crunch.
(21:13:53) Isilwar: I feel atleast twice, during the next six or so attempts.
(21:14:10) Isilwar: And all the while, the wheels are spinning and spitting mud directly into my face.
(21:14:15) Isilwar: Pleasant.
(21:14:31) Isilwar: Eventually, we get it facing the road and my dad starts driving towards teh road.
(21:14:38) Isilwar: Like a normal person.
(21:14:42) Isilwar: And it starts sliding.
(21:14:55) Isilwar: We were like, "OHHH, SHIT!"
(21:15:06) Isilwar: So we all run up to the side, and keep it from sliding.
(21:15:09) Isilwar: ON ICE.
(21:15:20) Isilwar: So eventually we get it on the road.
(21:15:29) Isilwar: And it drives home fine, except it can't turn right.
(21:15:37) Isilwar: And it's squeaking.
(21:15:45) ********: lol
(21:15:47) Isilwar: My stepmom is in trouble.
Hehe.

6 infinity, 5 infinity in two tries.
SS Clipper>Far Legover rpt (almost twice)
Twisted my ankle a little, fuck.
Infinity felt GOOD today, until my ankle started to be gay.
EDIT:
OHOHOHOH, and my knee doesn't hurt anymore, and my whirls are cleaner!

Aha, look at this zac, im taking the first post of your new page (i hope). If this does not start the new page im gonna look riddiculous! I challenge you to spin more! ALot of people overlook spinning or, in my opinion, dont use it enough. I also challenge you to never give up and to get as good at footbag as you can. Be sure to have lots of fun and cover all of the bases
Good luck Isilwar you are an ameriCAN!
