Man.. those YTV announcers have annoying voices. After watching that video I feel like their voices are stuck in my head. I just watched that clip for the first time, pretty sweet.

Just got in from my first time kicking in weeks. Just worked in some basics, not many strings. did some spins, a few blurry drifters (flip was shit), basic pixie drills, some spinning ducking, some blurry motions at the end.

when I got back, I discovered that my FunKix kickybag came from the UK. it's like a big donut (although, still round) with an electronic brain in the middle that you can see and turn on / off and do different things with. It's got a similar feature to that iKix thing jorden was representing at Worlds 05, but it's way bigger, and way more playable. Still way too big for conventional freestyle, but I'll be able to do basics with it, lots of delays, ducks, spins, flyers, and maybe some dexes. I'll bring it to use next time I play. I bet I can hit jani walker with it. no problem.

This is the thing I'll be representing in NYC in a week and a half. This is going to be a blast.

Anthony, glad you liked the clip, it was fun. Their voices totally surprised me! it was so weird when they started talking like that, but it was fun.

Jippe, great to hear from you, glad you're having fun travelling the world picking fruit! it sounds great. If I don't get to go to london this summer, I might want to consider making money doing some picking, as long as there's still time for kicking ! ;) it was good to meet you as well, we had a great time. I hope we can party again soon.

Hope everyone's well. I hope to begin playing again. i hope my knee behaves.

i've only got a second to write. It's day one of the toy fair. I got into the city yesterday. The guys from Wicked Vision (the FunKix company) are super cool, we did dinner last night and they gave me the breakdown on what I'm doing. Basically, I'm going to be a shining beacon of kicking evangelism. Some freestyle. Lots of kick > hand catch > smile > talk to people walking by > kick. probably lots of UNS delays, ducks, spins.

this should be fun. more later.

I made it through day two. day one got really rough for the last 3 hours, lots of cramping, stretching, laying low. today, I played it a little smarter. I was sore and stiff all day, but I was able to perform.

The product I'm using is HUGE (lepisto knows). my standard demo of it is various kicks > some variety of head stall > toe stall > toe stall > ss butter > infin > osis > ducking clipper > infin > ripwalk > osis > sole delay > hand grab. so far, the best stuff I've hit with it is symp whirls both sides, jani walker, both pdx drifters, spinning ducking clipper, tripwalk, and ripstein. I'm DEFINITELY not trying any of that stuff in demos. This thing is really huge, not that playable. I hardly do toe stuff with it at all.

I just got in from dinner with waylon and my employers. Way and I ate / drank there with bev and aidan last night. It's pricey, but hey, it's NYC, and I'm on workation; work + vacation. Yeah, it's brutal all day, but I'm having fun going out for dinner. Frankly, I'm exhausted. It's almost 11 PM, and I'm totally zonked. Getting back to freestyle is going to be fun. I'm glad that I'm able to endure 8 / 9 hours on my feet with kicking and some basic freestyle. It's tiring, but it's a good experience.

Making money with footbag is not about technicality. It is about being able to keep a smile on your face, communicate, and show positivity and control.

I can't write any more. I'm totally zonked right now, and I'm only half done. I need to go get some rest. I hope you all are enjoying freestyling for free, because it's HARD to do it for money. and they want me to be their national representative and do TV and commercials and stuff if their product takes off... we'll see if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Wow Matt! This all sounds really cool, I'm glad for you. I personally don't think I could be on my feet kicking for that long. Props!

Matt, way to be a soldier on the front lines for the sport of footbag ;) Sounds like you are having a good time despite all the exhaustion. A full time gig would be cool, but definitely something to give some serious thought to if you got offered it.

BTW saw the announcement for the next break the cycle show. The video of that from last year is definitely one of my top 5 footbag videos of all time :) If you bring Jorden this year it will be f&*$ing insane. Good luck with that.

Day 3 over. I didn't know if I'd make it through the whole day when I got up, because I drank a bit much last night, but I was able to pull my shit off and demonstrate the product with lots of kicks and some freestyle all day long, even at the very end. It was an eye opening experience to be able to perform just as well all day long, even as I got more and more exhausted. Red Bull = magic. I'm going to be fucking beat by the end of this.

I hit some new shit with the FunKix... footed swirling drifter, hit some dynos, blenders. toe shit sucks. it's too big.

I just had $1000 transferred into my bank account for 4 days of hacky sack action. Honestly, I'm feeling like a BAMF right now.

Awesome stuff Matt Cross. It's been really nice and chill to hang out with you again. Your skills with the guitar is as amazing as ever. :o

Way to represent Wicked Vision. I have high hopes in your efforts of making hacky sack more mainstream in this toy expo. Best wishes!

haha, yeah, I still sell bags sometimes. but I don't recommend you give me money until you see a completed bag ;) or you may have a long wait on your hands.

the only game I play is 6 string guitar, and occasionally THPS4. I tried a few rounds of guitar hero tonight, but I prefer the real thing.
