Some questions about the basics

Post by Strahinic »

What are some basic/easy tricks I could learn to start myself off with? I've been circle-kicking for a few years now and freestyling seems so cool. So a few days ago I ordered a few mr. sandbags and decided to start. :D

around the world isn't listed on that gallery, but it's good to learn on both sides (both directions)

edit: just noticed clipper isn't up there either - that trick is essential in learning butterfly and osis

yea, those tricks are awesome! I've been trying to get a good clipper for awhile now, but it seems that every time I hit the bag, it flies forward!

Second from the top in this section there is a thread dedicated to people who want to know where to start and it goes beyond what moves to start with. I'd recommend checkihng that out.

Yea, after throughly scourging this site for information about how to do a proper clipper, nothing came up :D. But I actually have learned alot about some of the easier tricks. I have found out, though, that i am not too nimble after all. And successfully doing an atw is quite hard. The only thing I am confused about is the dex of the atw. I have seen the vertical kind (around the sole of the foot) and a horizontal one (around the ankle/lower leg) and I was wondering if there are any tips on doing either of these so called atw's.

a. there is TONS of information on this site and .org about proper clippers. just make sure your foot is level and that youre cushioning the bag when you stall.
b. some people point their toe more when they atw... some people just keep their foot the same as if they stall. learning to point your toe when you dex is going to make things easier for you further down the line... but atws can be either way. when you start datw (double around the world) you want to point your toe more because that makes the trip around the bag a little bit shorter.

with atw it is good to have your toes pointed upwards for the entire time, and it's easier to do an ATW by dexing around the calf/ankle compared to using the whole leg for the dex.

Oh i see, yea pointing the toes does help. Im starting to a bit better at clippers, but once i order and get my lavers it should be easier (i'm using converse high tops right now)

Pfft, don't worry about what you can and can't do buddy. That's why you are here, because you want to learn. :D No shame in not knowing anything. And in a month's time, I'm sure you will be hitting stuff you can only think about right now. Like everyone has said. It simply takes practice and dedication.

I'm not sure about what's going on in Chicago but your plan sounds pretty good. 8 ) Definitely be sure to do the tricks on both sides equally. I didn't and I'm paying for it now. >_< It's so much easier to learn both than learn one then the other later. Try doing Mirages as well. Those will be a big help. After those, try going for Butterfly and Osis. This is just my personal suggestion though, do what you think is best and what works best for you. You seem very motivated, good luck! :D
