Hey thanks Zeke! Yeah my ankle's pretty f'd up. I definitely did have fun playing with you guys while I could, and chilling while I could.
------------------
Now I'm back home in Raleigh. I had a lot of fun at the 06 NYJ. I of course did sprain my ankle REALLY bad. It's all purple now. Even my toes are purple. I tried to make the best out of the situation though.
Overall I had fun. My favorite things were China Town, Millenium Park, deep dish Chicago pizza, the Combo Generator game, Rippin Run, watching 4 square, and hanging out with everyone. I would definitely want to go again.

Today is the first day of classes! I'm pretty psyched. Started my day off with some situps and glasses of water. Too bad it's supposed to rain pretty hardcore today. Anyways, off I go to:
Basic Reporting
Italian
Public Speaking
And I also have:
Physics of the Environment
History of Europe Since 1914
Hopefully I'll enjoy my schedule. This is the most lax schedule I've had so far. Only 16 hours and no real extra curriculars.

Haha man don't worry about the dollar. It's just a dollar. Glad you liked our outer banks. I've been a few times. They're pretty sweet indeed.
My ankle is slightly better but I'm still wearing an air splint and I still have a pronounced limp. Sadly it looks like I'll be taking more time off than I would've wished or originally expected.
In other news though, school is going pretty well. My communication classes are going to be pretty challenging this semester. I'm going to have to get over being shy, because it looks like I'll be interviewing strangers and stuff like that. I'm excited to start my European History class tomorrow as well.

Actually Holly, it's almost down to no swelling today. Last night I could actually touch my ankle bone, which was the first time in two weeks. However, the swelling fluctuates according to how much I walk on it everyday. And with school I have to walk quite a bit more than I'd like to. Every MWF it is BEAT by the end of the day.
Comm classes are fun. It's practical material and everyone in comm is pretty relaxed. We all curse a lot.
I'll get to working on those vids. In fact, I got a Kolo Sport Tee and a Freedom bag for my protege Ben, and he's been kicking some and is really excited to get into playing. So hopefully we'll be able to put out at least SOME footage. I'll get to working on that in a month or so, when I can walk without my air splint and play some. Thanks for the comments everyone, they're really appreciated.

Just a gripe. So this cute chick sits next to me in my Physics class for the first two days, and then today this fat ugly red-haired girl sat next to me. Then to make matters worse she asked if we could exchange numbers and emails. I just walked away. I want the cute chick back - she had to sit up front. Fucking fat chicks always ruin shit for me and they're so ignorant to the fact that they're doing it.
Fat chicks.
My ankle's slowly getting better. I think I might try to walk on it sans air splint tomorrow. We'll see. It still hurts (and still hurts MORE when I smoke, unless I'm not moving). Speaking of smoking, me and one of my roommates, Bill, who used to play footbag with me way back six years ago in high school, smoked and played guitar last night. It was seriously one of the best times I've had playing in about a year or two. Which is sad because I realized I had spent the past two years not enjoying music, even though I was a jazz performance major. Now I can enjoy it again and I'm slowly getting used to that.
I also am trying to stay out of the music building in general except on Sunday nights when my fraternity meets there. It's always a downer, and I used to go to the computer lab and get on the internet every day but now I think I'll just use the computer lab at the main library, which is way better and full of more interesting people. Music people end up being mostly the same after all.
Ben's been practicing without me some, which is good. I hope to be able to play in a few weeks but I think that's pretty optimistic. I think when I start playing I'll be doing dexless. I need to get a decent dexless style anyways and I figure I can school my clipper game and maybe work up some spinning and ducking. I think focusing on dexless would make my style more fluid - I've always hated how damn jerky it seems. Jerky's for beef, not footbag.
Anyways, I'll be on modified a lot more now I think because I'm interested in footbag again and I think I'll dedicate the hour before public speaking (this hour) to posting and reading about the goingsons.

So today has been okay. I received a 92 on the Physics test I took yesterday, which was about what I thought I'd get although I studied a lot for it and I wish I could've gotten a higher grade. I took an Italian test today and I forgot the word for 'to ask' which is chiedare... and overall I think I got an A on it, maybe 100+ even! This week has been really rough. My ankle's not really getting that much better - the swelling isn't even all the way down yet. I think maybe I'll ice it today. I haven't done that in a while.
I'm currently reading All Quiet on the Western Front for my contemporary Europe class - which ... the class is very challenging. A lot more reading than I'm used to - and I'm used to a lot! I'm reading Carlos Castaneda's "Second Ring of Power" in my spare time.
I'm back to doing 150 sit ups a day. That's good. I assume if I lose some weight my ankle will have less strain on it - I know when I was 50 lbs. lighter I felt a lot better. I'm going to try to get back down to 200 again. It's tough but I feel like I need to do it.
My Basic Reporting class is really tough - we're doing a story on our uni's tuition increase and we're supposed to go out and interview people and so far I haven't interviewed any strangers - I think it's a fear of mine I need to get over but for some reason it's really challenging. That's pretty much my goal for the semester - is to be able to interview strangers. I think it'll help out in my everyday life too.

Thanks Jeremy, I think? What preconceived notions of me did you have in the first place?
Bag looks great Holly - I can't wait to receive it this week. Hopefully I can shred with it really soon.
This weekend has been... interesting, I guess. Friday we threw another liquor luge party. I didn't take any shots and I only drank two beers - I wasn't in a partying mood at all. I ended up passing out waiting for my roommates and their mates to get home so that I could drive them to Waffle House, but then they didn't get home till really late, so I didn't take them to Waffle House. It was pretty uneventful and I wasted some Pinot Noir because I stopped drinking so I'd be able to drive them, and then left it for 2 days. Saturday was interesting - purchased some cool items at a headshop that was having a 50% off sale, but got the wrong stuff and this whole weekend I've been trying to sort it all out with no luck. Looks like some money went down the drain but I did get some stuff I've been wanting, so that's cool I guess. Today was cool though. I woke up in time to make it to one of my pledge brother's senior recital(s?). It was pretty good - he's come a long way. And then we sang two songs as a frat and then I headed to the library to work on my tuition increase student opinion story, which honestly probably sucks but I had to write it with what I had to work with, which wasn't much. Then I wrote two chapter summaries for the same class. Now I'm caught up in that class (although I still feel behind) but I'm behind in all my other ones. It's a vicious cycle of me trying to continuosly get caught up. It's pretty aggravating and I'm down about that and my ankle and this horrible weather we've been having.
But at least I got my story and chapter summaries done, right? And tomorrow's another day, albeit a LONG one. Anyways I have to run to my fraternity meeting tonight and try to change some things in our legislative procedures because I'm the voice for the people now, apparently.

Well, today has been interesting so far. It's been an okay day I guess. I'll start with last night. Last night was my weekly fraternity meeting, and we were voting on whether or not to give people bids, and it got all hot and complicated and I ended up losing my temper on one of my best friends. I used to be a very angry person and I didn't like it, or myself for that matter. I've been trying to use that energy in more positive ways, and for the most part that's how it's been for about a year and a half now. Last night was one of the few times I've blown up, and I felt immediately bad about it. I think it reflects badly on myself. It's a lot better to represent myself by staying calm in all situations and using my mind to work out solutions.
Then a few brothers came back to my apartment and we played Tetris Attack for about an hour. For those of you who don't know what Tetris Attack is, it's not like Tetris really... it's a competitive multiplayer game (although I use the one-player for training occasionally) where you try to send your opponent garbage blocks by making combos and chains. I like to think that I'm pretty good at it. It's fun, anyways.
Then I woke up this morning and went to Basic Reporting to turn in my story and that was fine but I feel like my story is horrible and the professor really gets in my head a lot and I think I'm psyching myself out about the class a lot because of his personality. He did mention today that he made a great multitude of mistakes in his heyday, and I relate to that and it made him seem more human. After Bas. Rep. I went to Italian, where I learned that I aced my Italian test from Friday - I got a 120. Then I went to Physics and somehow I got the highest grade in my class on Thursday's test (although it was a curved 92 - and I still don't really understand how that works). Then I had lunch with some frat bros and then I went to Public Speaking, where our first real speech was assigned - we've been having lots of small speeches (my favorite was one where we had to talk about a brush with death, and I chose my trip with footbaggers in the Paris Catacombs last summer - to rave review) but this is the first big one.
Now I have a lot of European history to read. Sweet.

Hey Champ,
You have indeed been posting a lot here
. I should read people's blogs more often.
I'm stoked you're doing public speaking - heaps of fun, and teaches you a lot I think.
How is All Quite on the Western Front? Can't say it's on my immediate list of books to read. I've nearly finished FALOTCT72 though - and it's brilliant. It was very slow to begin with, but it gets so intense towards the end. Definitely captures the spirit of politics so well - both why it's so exciting, but also how immoral it is too. I think Hunter definitely has a great deal of truth to what he writes - a deeper truth than the facts. It's actually made me study American politics a little - especially all the players from 72. I'm sure you've seen my poor attempt at gonzo in my blog too. I will try and school that some more. I think the hard part is if you're going to be genuine about it, you can't write drafts.
That sounded hardcore with your ankle. I must have missed that completely - I guess because I've been working too much. It must be almost better now.
Good to hear you're working out a bit too. I find that being healthy has a huge effect on my life - not only do I have plenty of physical benefits but I also feel a lot better and more positive. I think it gives you a lot of confidence. I've been really working hard to be healthy the last few months, and even my Mum has noticed a difference. Diet is crucial. Don't choose the "low fat option" - actually eat healthy food. Ignore all that shit about eating too much carbs etc. - eat a real balanced diet - like the food pyramid.
92 sounds like a good mark for test. From your comments I'm guessing that that's not a percentage? What is that out of? What mark does it mean? Physics is awesome, I'm glad you're taking that too. I think you can really learn a lot from it, not just about the physical world, but really about people and how to deal with them as well. Something that science has taught me recently is that we're all essentially the same - how we behave, from a physics perspective, is really just a reaction to our environment. There's a lot of psychological evidence to back this up, of course. So it is unfair to judge people or to feel negatively about them. If you were in their exact same situation you would act in the same way. That's not to say you should agree with them, or even tolerate everything they do, but I think that level of understanding and compassion can only make us better.
Are you still smoking many cigars? This pay (friday) I'm going to get myself a few to celebrate - probably a punch; coronation and maybe a Romeo and Juliet or a Monte Cristo. We'll see. I've given up all other drugs and alcohol - apart from caffine, of course. Part of my health crusade, but I might have a nice boutique beer or something as well.
Your fat chick comment made me laugh. Can't say I've been too strong on the girl front, although I have a fat chick after me too
We work together and it is awkward. Actually I met a really nice girl on Australia day (I had met her before) and if I see her again I'll probably ask her out. We'll see.
Good work on getting control of your anger. You should read the Tao Te Ching, it's great for giving you a perspective of calmness. I think that book was probably the most influential thing I read last year. The only other book that really stands out in my mind is Scanner Darkly, although I did read a lot of good stuff.
Anyway, I shouldn't hijack your blog too much
Talk to you soon
Cheers,

Well I'm on my break before public speaking... the past two weeks have been really rough. I'm not really keen on cold weather, and so I think I get seasonal mood disorder - I just try to stay up on my work and do a lot of positive things but still waking up in the cold makes every day that much harder to get through.
Damned ankle. It's better since Chicago but really, it's been a month and 3 days now - I would think most of the pain would be gone. I guess it was just a really bad sprain. Now that I think of it, the last sprain I had this bad was a 3 month break. I hope that doesn't happen.
All Quiet on the Western Front is a great novel - it's the second time I'm reading it. I definitely like it better now that I have a better background on WWI.
Yeah I "diet" but really it just involves cutting out unnecessary things like extra sugars and eating more fruits and vegetables. The latter involves my creative side, which is fun - tricking myself to eat healthy foods is fun. I cook a lot of Italian foods and cook more with olive oil than butter or margarine now. I just make a lot of small changes and try to go to the gym as much as possible, which is zero this whole month because of my ankle. The MOMENT I'm able to shred I will be running laps, playing footbag, and playing racquetball (yes Jeremy, squash - different size court though). I've kept up pretty well with my sit ups.
92%, yes.
YES! Cigars! I recently had a surge of excitement about cigars, wine, beers, and liquors. I'm talking about the fine stuff, not Swisher Sweets, boxed wines, Busch Light, and Parrot Bay. I'm thinking of doing a more comprehensive review-type thing and incorporating all of these interests of mine into a column for our uni newspaper, but I'm really busy. So I don't know if I'll get around to it. That and I need to write the footbag book I've wanted to for a few years. I haven't even begun that though.
Girls are no good. I mean, they're okay - I'm just completely frustrated with the girls in my town. Physics my ass, these people are so stupid - I can't ever imagine believing the things they believe or acting the ways they do. Immaturity and a lack of intellectual strength.
I bought Tao Te Ching but I haven't begun it yet. Too much school recently. Somehow 16 hours of courses is more work than last semester's 18 hours. But it's rewarding.

I'm not sure, but I'll try to let you know before I leave for Raleigh next time. I go pretty infrequently. I know I'll be around for a week though for my Spring Break.
------------------------------
The past few weeks have been like gauntlets (not the gloves - rather the medieval type). I'm waiting on a lot of things to come in the mail because I've been SPENDING TOO MUCH MONEY on things I don't really need. School has been tough as nails but I haven't really been putting in the time I need to. I've got a speech to give in 20 minutes and I thought I was prepared for it but now I'm not so sure. I've got the highest grade in my Physics class... 92s on both tests so far. My history class is so much reading. I'm two chapters behind. I think I nearly aced the map quiz we had yesterday on all European countries, capitals, rivers, and seas! I missed one sea that I know of, and I think I got everything else. It was really hard.
I find myself being lazy. When I get home from my day on campus I typically don't do any work at all. I might eat some food, play guitar, smoke a cigar, read for leisure, watch TV, listen to podcasts, or just wait for my roommate to get home so we can get high and then go about our night. I wish I could break the habit but so far I haven't been able to. Going to my fraternity's province workshop last weekend helped my mood a little bit though, which is good. And I'm still making good marks. I just FEEL lazy. It's aggravating. I'm hoping that Spring Break will actually turn me around and make me productive again. There's a possibility it will. That's not for a while though.
I love playing guitar. One of my roommates and I play guitar at LEAST every Monday. We have a black light closet that we smoke in and then jam for a few hours. It's a lot of fun. We make some decent music too - I'm thinking about editing some and releasing it on my Engagement Head podcast, which I haven't updated in about 3 months or so.
In podcast news, my favorite podcast, Strange Brood, is back, after taking a break for a few months. I also listen to CoffeeGeek, Wine for Newbies, DogWatch Cigar Radio, NORML Daily Audio Stash, and MacWorld. I find that I learn a lot from podcasts, and sometimes I eventually go research more about what I want to know.
Basically, I'm doing fine, but just dissatisfied with myself.
Oh, and we throw a liquor luge party every Friday night now - for the past 8 weeks, and I keep wanting to have a date at them but I never do. I'm dissatisfied with that as well.
