3 - 4b = 10b + 10
Step 1: 3-4b-3=10b+10-3
-4b=10b+7
Step 2. -4b-10b=10b+7-10b
-14b=7
Step 3. -14b/-14=7/-14
Step 4. Simplify b=-7/14=-1/2

You basically want to get the numbers and variables on differents sides.

I agree with texta. Hey, the question had been answered, so what's the biggy? If someone can't handle an innocent joke like that, it's probably their own problem.

It's pretty simple. What you do to one side of an equation, you must do to the other side to make the equation remain true.

Ex. 10y - 10 = 4y + 8

The objective, get the variable one one side, and a single number on the other.

Step one. Subtract 8 from both sides.

(10y - 10 - 8 = 4y + 8 - 8) = (10y - 18 = 4y)

Step two. Subtract 10y from both sides.

(10y - 18 - 10y = 4y - 10y) = ((-18) = (-6y))

Step three. Simplify the equation.

(-18) / (-6) = 3. Or get rid of the negative signs altogether. 18 / 6 = 3.

y = 3

(Technically) Step four. Confirm.

10(3) - 10 = 20. 4(3) + 8 = 20.

Hope that helps.
