No. My flip pixies suck too much. If I had a reliable flip pixie I bet I could.
And we all know how to fix that. Bad luck on the shin splints though. Congrats on hitting some things out of Osis though. Sounds like they are coming along nicely. :D

Saturday 1/27 3.25 hours
Total hours played in 2007: 20.25 hours

Sweet session today :) It ended up being only John and I but the weather was GREAT. Sunny and in the 60s :) I wasn't at the top of my game, but I was pretty damn close. A few concepts I was struggling with were a little easier. The main highlight of the session is that I hit my first 5 :D :D :P I had asked for tips on hitting illusions downtime and got some really helpful advice from Qphox and HG. I figured it would be a while before I started hitting them that way, but I actually picked it up really quick.

Highlights
 Ducking PS Mirage, 3rd try. John saw and said it was clean :)
 Smudge :!: new! I had been trying to hit this for a while
 Lots of spinning. Very close spinning clipper BSOS and spinning butter BSOS, footed both several times. Spinning sets feel roughly equal on each side.
 Butter > PDX Illusion > Butter > PDX Illusion > Butter > PDX Mirage :D
 Illusion > Pickup rpt with very clean downtime illusions a few times
 Osis BSOS a few times
 Eggbeater a bunch of times. Much easier with the new way I do illusions.

I like my new illusions :) They require much less energy. I'll have to get them a little better and start hitting more pdx illusions and hopefully flails one day

There was a summer camp convention at the convention center today so all the kiddies were out. A lot of questions from parents. A couple kids game by they were maybe 14 or 15 and were really blown away by John and I. I told him about footbag.org and when we have sessions, hopefully he'll get into it. He wrote footbag.org on his hand.

Also John played really well. I swear he gets better every time I play with him. He was hitting swirl BS fairly regularly now. I also showed him how to symp mirage. He was hitting some good strings with stuff like DATW and PLO b2b mid string. He hit DATW bsos a couple more times too.

I hope the weather stays warm :D :P :)

Monday 1/29 30 minutes
Total hours played in 2007: 20.75 hours

Played in the laundromat. Mainly just drilled basics while my clothes got clean. I got stranger props from a few Mexicans who could not speak a word of English.

Later did 30 minutes of cardio at the gym.

Tuesday 1/30 1 hour
Total hours played in 2007: 21.75 hours

Gym session. Warmed up with some biceps curls and some stretches. Hadn't done groin stretches in forever, they ended up helping I think.

Highlights
 PDX Mirage > Dimwalk > PDX mirage > Run. Been wanting to hit that combo for a while for some reason.
 Merkon BS, almost BSOS
 Ducking PDX Mirage BS several times, BSOS footed :x
 Legover x 32 (have hit 38 before)
 Mirage > Legover > rpt 35 contacts
 Several tight DLOs, footed flip DLO and PDX DLO 8O

Worked on Flip pixie. It's sucky but I'm workin' on it, OK? No I did not hit ANYTHING out of it this session.

Don't really care too much to develop stepping. Having way more fun with ducking and spinning.

EDIT: Capped off the sesh with 24 minutes of cardio. I was a sweat monster when I got home.

Also, working a flyer to post up around the more hippie-ass places in town. Check it out and lemme know what you think.
Image

Session tonight. John is on the DL  Maybe I'll do some solo filming if no one else makes it.

Yeah I don't feel like paying for a domain name or hosting anymore, so now it's

http://www.freewebs.com/atxfootbag

the atxfootbag.org domain name will expire in a few days.

I've had that happen before too... Only I wasn't sure if they were impressed with my playing or laughing at my short shorts...

First off, thank you to everyone who posts comments and encouragement in my blog. I appreciate it a great deal.

I've really been battling the shin splints lately. I am doing toe taps at work every day. Also, I am trying to stretch before and after every session, that seems to help a great deal. Still, it's a struggle. They hurt today more than usual. I am not going puss out and take long breaks. If I do that, my shin muscles will never strengthen :x :x Don't worry, I'm not being stupid by trying to play through copious amounts of pain.

Wednesday 1/30 1 hour
Total hours played in 2007: 22.75 hours
Total hours played in Jaunary 2007: 22.75 hours

Session with James and Cody. Foolishly I did not stretch before or after, since time was kind of limited. I hit a few long tiltless runs. Spinning was on, ducking was off.

Single highlight:
 Run with spinning clipper out of one spinning set and merkon later on out of the other. Drop on spinning clipper BSOS attempt in that run :x

I really like how I have absolutely no sidedness with spinning set. Both sides feel completely equal. It's nice :) By the time an hour was up, my shins were hurting and I stopped. I had to leave anyways.

Session on Saturday.
To Do list:
 Play solo today and/or Friday
 POSTER! RECRUIT! YaY Footbag!

P.S. In communication with Stoke about doing a jam in Houston in late March or Early April :) Will make a post about it once we firm up dates.

No problem buddy! :D I've actually found that playing (sensibly of course, no hardcore shit) with shin splints makes them pass more quickly... with all the stretching and toe taps mixed in of course. This may just be me but I thought I'd throw it out there anyways. You're lucky with your spinning being equal. I almost feel like I'm in Zoolander sometimes because I find it unbelievably difficult to turn right heh.
That poster does look pretty sweet though! Good luck recruiting!

-Alan

hey ben, looks like your game is starting to improve rapidly!

i saw you were hitting pdx ills, so why not try some bubbas?

do you have a stepping set? if your pdxmirages are nice, try some blurs. i love them, and can hit them easier than a plain pdx mirage.

pixie same clip> ss lo >rpt
this drill got my pixies to wherei could actually use my flip multiple times one string.

it prepared me for pix near clip>crispy dlo >rpt

keep improving! props on the 5! and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!

@Alan: Yes I was kind of like that when I first learned spinning too. What happened was soon after I learned spinning out of right clipper, I injured my left foot and couldn't spin off that side (the torsion hurt my support foot). So I had to start over on my other side. By the time my left foot healed, I could spin about equal on both sides and it's been equal ever since. It's almost more of a mental thing. Just work on turning the other direction (without the bag, doesn't even have to be in a footbag sense) and your brain thinking about your body turning that direction. It's like 99% mental, just get your brain and your body used to spinning in the opposite direction. Watching David Clavens videos helped a lot for some reason.

@Brian: Thanks dude! Per your advice I tried some bubbas last night. They are such a goofy trick, I think pdx illusions are easier for me. I was able to hit bubba on the side of my weak illusion, but not on my strong :? :? I can stepping one side, and I've hit blur a bunch of times, but I don't like stepping because it's hard on my shins. But yeah, pdx mirage was my first 3, and it's one of the most solid moves in my repetoire. Thanks for the drills, ss/near legovers from clipper definitely need work on my flipside (it will help with PDX DLOs too), so I will try that drill out.

Thursday 2/1 45 minutes
Total hours played in 2007: 23.5 hours
Total hours played in Feb 2007: 0.75 hours

Played at the gym. Um lets see...
 Alternating toe stalls x 153 :x :D
 Clipper > Mirage > rpt 30 contacts
 Clipper > Far Legover > rpt 14 contacts
 Footed flip DLO a ton of times
 Osis x 7 8) 8) :) :P
 Butter > Mirage > Legover > rpt > 25 contacts
 Toe set SS Butter > Mirage > rpt 18 contacts

30 minutes cardio on the ellipticals to cap things off. Cross training baby, cross training.

As much as I am dying to play tonight, I'm going to abstain. I've shredded 5 out of the last 6 days (4 in a row), my shins can have 1 day off. I'll do some cardio tonight at the gym.

One other thing I'm not sure if I've mentioned in my blog. I've totally cut down on soda this year. I used to drink 1-2 20oz (600mL) bottles a day. Now I've rationed myself down to 2 20oz bottles per WEEK. I've been doing that all 2007, only 10 sodas in 2007 so far for me :) I think I'll cut down to 1 per week in March. The first couple weeks were the hardest. It's becoming easier and easier to say no to the cravings. I drink a lot of water. That's really good for me.

Ooh, also it's my 2 year anniversary being vegetarian today :) I can't explain it but from age 16-23 or so I felt I was invincible. I didn't smoke or do drugs, I did drink some but not a lot. The main thing was that I didn't eat healthy and didn't exercise regularly. I've always been thin and look like I'm in good shape, even when I'm not, so I figured unless I was an athlete or was fat, I didn't need to bother with eating right or staying in shape. But it really started catching up to me by age 22 or 23 (I'm 25 now). I felt lethargic all the time, slept a lot and just felt low energy and unhappy. All that stuff about eating right and getting exercise can seem like such dumb gibber jabber when you're young because it feels like it doesn't matter. It will catch up with you!!! Luckily I was able to change my ways and eat healthier and exercise (footbag being a big part of that). It wasn't easy, but at the same it wasn't too hard either. It just took the desire to want to be healthier and feel better. So if you're a younger person and you don't have the best of habits, considering making a conscious decision to improve them now. The younger you start the easier it will be and the better off you'll be a few years down the road. You can find that out on your own, but I just felt like passing that on in case you wanted to take my advice.

Congrats on the 7 Osis' man! I see what you're saying with spinning though. I'll have to practice that sometime soon. 8 )
That's good you are cutting down on Soda too. I decided to do that in December and am happy to say I haven't had one single soda since December 26th. :D Feels great, I too eat alot healthier now as well. I'm not vegetarian but I feel oh so much better since I started eating better. It really does help a lot. If you want to see some cross-training though, check out my blog tonight.

Hahaha. I think Jeremy's post was sarcastic. I'm much more proud of my 20+ contact runs. Osis needs work. If you watch my newest video I hit a grand total of 1 osis ;)

Saturday 2/3 2.25 hours
Total hours played in 2007: 25.75 hours
Total hours played in Feb 2007: 3 hours

Played with Cody. I've noticed he's been getting better. He hit some pretty cool shit like spinning pdx illusion BSOS and whale tail. His barefoot clippers are getting more consistent, especially on strong side.

I hit DATW completely downtime for the first time. That's an important concept that I've been neglecting. I FINALLY found my dexerciser under a pile of crap this weekend, so I need to get back to using that. I also hit spinning clipper BSOS on my first run of the day. I worked on illusions and spinning set. I was actually spinning really well, merkons, spinning butters, spinning clippers, gyro mirages all on both sides. I also footed spinning mirage on both sides. The move seems easier than last time I tried, it's all about not over-rotating.

Saturday 2/3, second session 1.25 hours
Total hours played in 2007: 27.0 hours
Total hours played in Feb 2007: 4.25 hours

I rocked a mid afternoon snack and picked up my girflriend from her all day class. She was tired and wanted to take a nap. A sunny Saturday, with nothing to do... I had to have another session. I went to the park, brought my video camera and had a solo session. The vid pretty much sums it up. I think it's a good watermark to show how much I've progressed in a year.
