My spinning felt good yesterday.
(first try) I hit gyro butterfly bsos.
Also,
smp. mirage > legbeater bsos (first time hitting atomic out of smp mirgae...)
pixie felt good too. I had a couple 15 ish contact runs of 90% toe to toe.
symp whirls feel a LITTLE better also. Hit another nice ps whirl. Those are getting more fun. My flip is still funny though.
Flip swirls are going to get DRILLED! I want them to be cake.
Today I shred with Kenzo from about 6 at OCAT. (hinting towards Adam

Had a good session with Henmo on Friday evening. He had a training course at a temple in Kyoto over the weekend, so we managed to get in a session together. It's been a long time since I've had a one-on-one session with him.
I gave Henmo some tips on eggbeater, and he gave me some advice for stepping and symp. whirls. It's fun to be able to trade tips with other players, as some tricks come naturally for certain body types.
Henmo is trying to get a footbag group started in Kagawa.
After the session, we went to a have a bath. I asked Henmo to show me some stretches and chiropractic techniques.
After our bath, we met up with Kaori and had a nice long dinner at a Thai restaurant. Henmo treated us when we went to his place over New Year's, so it was good to be able to return the favor. The food was soooo good!

Had a session this afternoon.
It's been warm in the afternoons. I had a short juggling/footbag session yesterday, but it was too windy to be comfortable. There was no wind today, which made it much easier to kick.
I did a lot of work on whirls--clip, toe, pdx, and symposium.
Did some one-sided drills:
toe whirl>whirl>pdx whirl
And some other drills:
pdx whirl>whirl rpt.
sidewalk>ducking clipper rpt.
Pdx drifters are pretty tough for me. I can hit them alone but can't seem to link them very well. I've been trying pdx drifter>drifter (rpt.) for a long time with no luck. It's mainly a problem with balance and timing, but I think I also need to increase my flexibility.

Nice stuff Kenzo!
I took yesterday off, and as it turned out, I got my results back from
the Japanese proficiency test that i took back in December. I took level 2 (1 is the hardest) and PASSED!! I was so happy about that. I still am happy about that!

Kenzo, good work on the new combos. I'll have to have you show me your bubba set next time we kick.
I had a solo session this evening at campus after my Sanskrit class. We're in spring break right now, but I decided to join a group to read the Bhagavad-gita. It's pretty interesting but takes up a lot of time.
I focused on staying on my toes today. I think I have a tendency to shift my weight onto my heels sometimes. My runs felt springier because of this.
Hit some drills:
pdx whirl>whirl rpt.
bubbabeater>drifter rpt.
gyro mirage>butt rpt.
plo>tap rpt.
flip blurrywhirl
symposium whirls are feeling much lighter.

Had a session over the weekend with Kenzo and TJ in Osaka. Everyone seemed to be playing pretty well, although Kenzo had to quit early because of a high fever. His fever didn't keep him from hitting lots of fives before he left though!
Highlights:
vortex bs and gyro dlo bs
75 contacts of five-ball cascade (juggling)
I hadn't hit these in a long while.
TJ gave me some advice on blender, but it still is really hard for me.

Had a 45-minute session on campus this evening. I was playing pretty well--paradox drifters and stepping seemed especially on tonight. I wish I could have played a little longer--I probably could have hit pdx drifter>drifter rpt.
Highlights:
side>rip rpt.
pdx whirl>whirl rpt.
pdx drifter>drifter bs
Footbag was good, but I had more important things on my mind today: I PROPOSED TO MY GIRLFRIEND! I am now an engaged man.

OH SHIT!!! Congrats Adam! I farted a little when I read that you proposed to your girlfriend! That is really awesome! I am really happy for the both of you! I am gonna mail you via phone too! It's funny that after that last session, on our ways home, we had that short discussion about marriage and what not, and here you go proposing.
Props on the footbag and juggling skills, but above all that, and once again,

I've had a couple of solo sessions recently. Nothing new to report except that atomic and stepping are getting a bit better. I still am thinking too much about it, and my approach seems to change with each session. I'd like to get those sets more into my body so I don't have to think so much.
I hit a smooth drifter the other day--it surprised me because it felt way too easy.
I've started hitting blenders also.
I think I got 100+ catches of 5-ball cascade last weekend. My average length has greatly improved over the past week. I was juggling the other day at a park and managed a long freestyle 3-ball run with no drops. I turned to find an old woman watching me, and she seemed very impressed. She was interested, so I gave her a mini-lecture on juggling!

Nice Adam!
I hope some of the tips I gave you on blenders helped
As for me,
I have been sick since Friday. I didn't/couldn't do anything this last weekend but sleep and stay inside. I want to shred SOO bad, it sucks. Today is supposed to be like 73 degrees, and I CANT SHRED! What makes things worse is that my insurance is in the process of getting switched from international to in-Japan, so I don't have insurance at this point. I think I still can go to the hospital, and then pay later. I should do that, at least just to see. I wanted to this last weekend, but I was too weak to do anything. All I want to do is play footbag. Im going to Okinawa in two weeks, and I would like to prepare for that, but I CAN'T.
The thing that is bothering me the most is that I have had a cough for about 2 weeks. Today, there are a ton of kids sick with Influenza at my school.
I want to be well again and play footbag.

TJ,
Hope you recover soon. It's hard to avoid the flu bug when you're working around kids.
First time I've used the quote function. Yeah!

I just re-read my previous blog entry and noticed that I made a Freudian slip of sorts. Drifter should've been vortex in the above sentence, but that particular vortex felt so easy that I equated it completely with a drifter!I hit a smooth drifter the other day--it surprised me because it felt way too easy.
First time I've used the quote function. Yeah!
Ha! Nice one Freud
Yeah, it is hard when you work around kids. I am gonna give it one more day (I hope). If tomorrow is nice, I am going to get a small (maybe not so small) session in, to see how I feel afterwards. I hope this cough goes away soon. I don't like it at all.

I had a GREAT session today at campus! It was one of those days when everything seems to click.
I have a Sanskrit class everyday, and I have been trying to play after class in a lounge space at campus. It's spring break right now, and there are few people on campus, so I look like a freak playing in shorts with a small cloth bag. I wish there were some more people to play with on campus, because that would make me look a little more approachable. People are strange, when you're a stranger--Faces look ugly when you're alone.
Highlights:
*whirl>pdx whirl rpt.
*drifter>whirl rpt. (first try)>hand catch>same combo starting on other side
*pdx whirl x 4 (this is my record, I should work on this more)
*sidewalk>ripwalk rpt. (first try)>hand catch>same combo on other side
*sidewalk x 3 bs
*flip blur> legbeater (new combo for me)
*plo>tap rpt.
*spinning clipper>ripwalk rpt. (first try)
*ripwalk x 5 (I hit this many times, but I kept dropping on the sixth ripwalk for some reason)
*60+ catches of five-ball cascade many times
I have been focusing on the set leg recently. The ability to feel how the bag leaves the foot and the timing of the plant seems crucial. This seems especially true on sets like stepping and atomic. When doing uptime sets, it is common to focus on the dex and not pay much attention to the setting leg and how it plants. Uptime sets don't really feel like a dex at all when they are done properly.
Is it just me, or is there a lot of debate recently between theists and atheists? This argument has even carried over into this forum. I have listened to people like Richard Dawkins and his debates with theists, and I am often struck by the lack of understanding between the two groups.

The weather was nice today, so I stopped by a park for a short juggling session. My consistency and style seem to be getting better. When I play footbag, it is rare that people stop to watch, but I always get lots of spectators when I juggle. I guess it's just the nature of the sport.
Although I probably did it before, I finally was able to count and confirm over 100 catches of five-ball cascade--it fell apart at the end, but I think it was around 105 catches. I'm really happy to hit this, as it was one of the juggling goals I've had for a long time.
I'm also happy because I know it was not just a fluke. Juggling seems to be more about the speed of the brain to perceive movement rather than muscle strength. It's hard to explain, but five-ball feels noticeably different now.

Props Adam! 100 catches of 5-ball is really sweet. I STILL haven't been working on my five ball. BUT, I have been playing a lot of footbag
It was upwards of 22 degrees yesterday (71.6F), and that meant I wanted to shred REALLY bad. I called up Kenzo and we met up in Namba at 12. The session went well, especially since we both played pretty hard the day before. Not too long after we started, Matsui-kun, Morio and Debi showed up, but Kenzo and I each had plans early evening, so we ducked out early.
This last weekend, I hit
sidewalk > matador > ripwalk (rpt)
P drifter > P torque (bsos) (couldn't get the drill...YET)
barfly x 14 (new record)
spinning whirl bsos
far motion > spinning whirl (one side only)
Bsosed PS whirl on tape
A run with ducking p mirage and ducking p illusion bs
stepping same osis crispy torque (rpt)
I think i should rest today, but who knows what will happen.
I have been stretching really well before and after shredding, and I feel noticably more flexible, which is nice. Stretching feels really good.
I want to start doing Yoga again.
I also flowed last night for the first time in like two weeks. That was refreshing.
