Mixed Drinks and Martini's

Post by Slowsis »

I've been drinking nothing but beer and cheap white wine for months, and need some inspiration. I'm sure all you aspiring bartenders have some interesting and tasty mixes up your sleves. I'm equally sure you raging alchoholics have some good ones as well.

P.S. No Flaming Homers (rediculously long ingredient lists which are impractical and expensive)

I'll start it off simple with a classic.

Dirty Vodka Martini
3 oz Vodka
1 oz Dry Vermouth
.5-1 0z (to taste) of green olive brine

Add to shaker with cracked ice
Shake well
Pour, Serve

Some favoured drinks from the bar i work at:

Jam Donut:

15ml Chambord
15ml Baileys
Sugar

Rim shot glass with sugar, add Chambord then float Baileys on top. Shoot!

Squashed Frog:

15ml Midori
15ml Baileys
Chambord or Cherry Vok

Float Baileys on top of Midori in a shot glass. Add a tiny dash of Chambord carefully, to create the guts of the squashed frog floating in the Midori heheh

Purple Haze

15ml Lime Vodka
15ml Bacardi
15ml Midori BLUE
15ml Triple Sec
1/4 fresh Lime
10 Blueberries
45ml Cranberry juice
15ml Lemon juice
3 dashes of bitters
Hope i didnt forget anything!

Muddle fresh fruit in a cocktail shaker, add alcohol and other ingredients, fill the shaker with ice and shake. Serve in Cervose glass, do not strain.

At our pub we do Jaegerbombs a bit differently to the US, i guess they are a bit 'softer' here:

30ml Jaegermeister
Red Bull

Pour about 1/2 a 10oz glass of Red Bull, then drop a 30ml shotglass of Jaegermeister (glass and all!) into the Red Bull, and down the whole concoction.
Extremely popular on Friday nights!

EDIT: I suppose the Purple Haze counts as 'ridiculously long and expensive', so why not try a Strawberry Smash, by muddling 3 strawberries and 1/4 of a lime in a cocktail shaker, and adding 60ml of Vodka and 30ml of Sugar syrup. Shake the mix with ice, and pour into a highball glass without straining.

Beerdriver:
Vodka, OJ, Beer

Amaco
1/2 oz Bacardi 151
1/2 oz Everclear
a few drops of Baileys. Not only looks like motor oil, tastes like it too. &*%#s you up good though ;)

Also, I'm a fan of extra dirty martinis. The more olive brine you put in, the "dirtier" the martini. Any extra dirty martini taste like drinking an alcoholic olive.

Basics, basics, I like the basics...

Gin and Tonic:
this hardly needs a recipe, but if you insist...
2 oz. gin over ice, fill the rest of the glass with tonic water, squeeze in a twist of lime. I like alot of lime, I usually do two good wedges.

A simple alternative to the gin and tonic is a vodka tonic, and the nice thing about vodka tonic is all those flavored vodkas. I like the absolute currant in particular, but really you can't beat the original gin and tonic with lime.

But speaking of vodka,
it just goes good with almost anything, such as...

Grapefruit juice (that one is called a Grey Hound)
or
Cranberry juice (I don't know what that one is called, when I want one, I just call it a "vodka and cranberry")

There are some specific names for some other combos, like:
Sea Breeze or Bay Breeze (one of 'em is vodka and pineapple juice and cranberry juice, and the other is something similar, I can't remember which, or which is which, whatever)

Of course, all those are just a serving of vodka plus juice over ice. Mix to taste. Can't go wrong.

The only fancy one I'd recommend at the moment is:
the classic Bloody Mary.
Specifics? Hmm, I don't really know, I just mix to taste.
Its something like:
A serving of vodka (2 oz. or so, I guess)
8 oz. of tomato juice.
A Dash or two of worsteshire sauce (sp?)
A dash of Tobasco sauce
A half-teaspoon of horse radish (I prefer the white, and plenty of it, but again, its to taste, so you can use less, or the red, if you like. Half a teaspoon is kind of alot)
Twist of lemon or lime, whatever you have on hand.
Salt and pepper
Celery powder (you can use celery salt, or just a mix it all with a stalk of celery)
(I might be forgetting something... there are quite a few ingredients.)
All over ice. Voila.
Its about the only way I like to drink tomato juice. Tomato juice is nasty, unless its mixed with vodka, lime, celery, and some spicy stuff. Enjoy!

Juiji

Half cup hot chai black tea
3 shots sake
2 shots peach schnapps
2 shots cranberry juice

Hood and I invented it at NYJ. It's good. We had other recipes but I think that was the best one.

Yeh Jon, a Bay Breeze is Vodka, Cranberry and Pineapple.

Wet Pussy = Peach schnapps, cranberry juice and a twist of lime

Can also be had as a shot, we do it 10ml Malibu, 10ml Vodka, 10ml Cranberry juice... dont ask me why lol

Tequila Suicide = Drink a shot of Tequila, snort salt up your nose, and squeeze and lemon wedge in your eye, all in quick succession. Why the fuck would you do that?

Train Wreck = Take a shot of Vodka with Red Bull as a mixer, and do with it as you would a Jaegerbomb (drop the shotglass of Jaeger in the Vodka Redbull and down the lot)

Or be a man and drink that alcohol straight. (just messin with ya) 8) Personally I think chasers make things take longer to drink, im like lets get to the point. Refill shot after shot. Unless your looking for a lite buzz.

I dont chase anything with anything, i think you are more likely to get sick with chasers because you are rapidly drinking copious amounts of liquid, that is invariably soft drink or more alcohol, neither of which does your stomach many favours IMO

I disagree from a personal standpoint. If I don't chase the alcohol, I tend to get sick rather quickly.

Train wrecks are awesome. I got real smashed on them at a rave last year.

We had tequila sunrises last night, but we used red cordial as well. Is that right? It was good, anyway.

How do americans do jager bombs?
