Had a great session with Nate & Josh today at the Tempe Kiwanis park rec center. We played for a little over 4 hrs. Nate played real well today for about 1 1/2 hrs or so. He was hitting gyro butterflys, blurs bs, ripwalks. He said his knee was bothering him but he still did pretty good. Josh was doing good & hit a few new things. Check his blog. I guess his knee/shin was bothering him too.

As for me I had a few hightlights.
-28 osii's
-35 alt clips
-2 or 3 20 + tiltless runs
-1 20 + guiltless run
-1 30 + BOP run ( i might have had one smear in there too)
-parkwalk bs (new trick for me. I have tried this in the past w/o much success so maybe the my pixies are getting better.)

I tried a few tapdown & sumo but it was not working today. Another day for those. Overall a good session. I am feeling pretty good now. Time to go stretch a few times & then get some things done before bed & then work tomorrow night. Argh!

josh,

I hit that several times. I have been trying to put a smear just before the dimwalk. I have gotten close. Thx!

I had a 40 min session today. A good way to start out the year! I want to average at least 3x a week or more! Today I just worked CBOP stuff as usual.

medium lights:
-2 20+ contacts of alt clips.
-20+ contact of clip>infinity rpt
-20 contacts of clip 5x>op clip 5x rpt

Not much else. My flip clip is slowly coming along. I wish I had more time to kick!

Happy New Year!

had a 2 hr & 20 min session last night.

-warmed up with 300 consecutive kicks to a hand catch.
-worked on 2 add consec & drills. Worked on the mirage x n> lo rpt & the illusion x n>lo rpt. n=any number you want. I did one & also 5. I also tried to mix up some pick ups in between but that gets a bit confusing.
-15 mins of pixies: 7 1/2 mins of alt pixies & 7 1/2 mins of smears
-15 mins of atomics: 7 1/2 mins of ss atomics. I thought of this since Conrad thought of the alt pixies for practice. Smart me. then 7 1/2 mins of atom smashers
-15 mins of clips: alt & ss
-15 mins of butterflys: alt & ss
-finished off the session with BOP stuff & some different combo work. Like butterfly to op x-body rake or alt x-body rakes & alt butterfly rakes. Definitely need to throw that in some runs once in a while for fun.
-then did the old situp stuff (gets old fast), pushups, & some kung fu practice for another 1 1/2 hrs. I woke up tired today. Wow!..

The Unity club is having a kick up in Phx. There was a girl from high school that just moved here & she seems very interested. She called me to ask about the club & where we kick so I thought was a chance to kick up there & see if I can get some of the other guys I have been emailing to stop by & check it out. Hopefully they won't be to overwhelmed. They are young so I hope they realize they have time. We will see...

I better update now since I have some time & of course so I won't forget all the good stuff that we all hit. We had a Unity Club kick in Phx. I got a call from Amber, AZ's newest/only shredita, so we had the kick in Phx. I was hopeing some more people would show up too. But their loss! It was a really good session minus the cold wind & the little rain that we got. It was Amber, Conrad, Josh, myself, & Jill, a friend of mine from my college days stopped by.

Jill just had a baby a while back so she just kicked with us. Her skills where still there. She has a good balance of all the kicks. Maybe one day she will want to learn some tricks too. We will see.

Amber was doing great! She was open for instruction & was very enthusiatic about kickin & learning. I worked with her a bit throughout the session. She hit mirage several times, & footed it once or twice on flipside. She also footed atw on one side several times. Clips on both sides. I think she will learn fast from what we already seen. Oh yeah she footed butterfly on one side too! 8O She is ready to get some good shoes & a good footbag to progress even farther. Besides she is only 16 & has a lot of potential, time, & modivation to learn. I look forward to her passing my skills up in a year or so!! Hopefully she will post here in the Unity blog or create her own! Please welcome her if she does!

Conrad was a bit off (maybe that is normal  ). I guess that is what traveling (ND) will do to you. It was good to have him back. He & Josh would not stop giving each other shit the whole session. Ahhh the good times! I threw some good ones in there too. Jab jab... haha

Josh was doing good. The funny thing is I think he mentioned taking the week off but there he was pulling off flip madator, blurriest, etc. Read his blog. Insane!

I was doing alright for 5 hrs sleep.
-double pick up on strong side. yeah! almost forgot to put that one down!
- sumo off the toe again 2 diff times.
-several 20 + guiltless runs. A couple of the runs had a real good variety.
-DLO's all over the place. Those are feeling good!
-xbdy rakes & butterfly rakes all over.
-smears & terrages here & there
-several long tiltless runs throughout the kick
-flip paradon a couple of times. I need to work on the more so I can put that in my run since I hit that pretty good now & then. My right knee was hurting so I only did a oouple of strong side paradons. I thought my knee was getting better but it still flares up now & then. This is aggravating. I thought I figured out what it was but it keeps bothering me. I will keep thinking about it & figure out what it is. Maybe it is a combination of several things.

My atom smashers where not flowing like wednesday. argh... I didn't really work on anything new so maybe that is why I am not that sore. I hope to kick tomorrow before work since I am feeling good today. Towards the end of the session my flip clip seems to start working more consistently. Maybe that is because I get a bit tired & I don't tense up as much & let it flow more. We used Josh's broken in Russian bag for most of the session. It sure makes things easier. I need to take some more beads out of my abshire bag & put some more weight in. I think that will help. It is a bit rolly still. We used my old Carol bag which is really broke in at the end of the session. That is when I had a couple more 20+ BOP runs! nice! Felt good but I wonder how legit this is for my flip? Does it make it lazy? It was working. hmmmm....... I will take what I can get. haha. that is like marriage. take it when you get it. haha....

(hillbilly) pun of the day...
-- whirr did you get that one!

Yeah bad huh. Sounds better with a Texas kinda accent. There was a few more but hard to remember them all when you are trying to remember what you hit & some of the what everyone else hit too.

Kick on Friday with Ken Somolinos down in Tucson. Sweet! later all....

Kicked 30 mins before work. Just worked on 2 add stuff & some butterfly's & pdx mirages. I tried to do a lot of consecutives since I didn't have a lot of time. I noticed after all the consecutives on my flip clip/butterfly my knee got pretty tight. I need to catch the bag farther back like Jorden says & stay over the bag. Geesh sounds easy. Flip can be a flippin pain in the ass...

I will kick tomorrow too. I think I might get someone else to come kick with me on Wednesday evening. His name is Tyler. He lives pretty close to me so we will see!! Or maybe have a another Unity kick? Lets see how I feel & what everyone else is doing. Just threw that one out there for everyone to read.

ended up having a Unity session up in phx. First it started out with Josh, Tyler, a new member of Unity, & myself. we kicked for a couple of hours.

Tyler was doing pretty good. He hasn't kicked in several years. His toe stalls are good. Josh & I showed him a few tricks. He got real close to mirages & ATW's.

After 2 hours we went to pick up Amber & went back to the same park for few more hours. Amber was doing great. She has so much drive & interest to learn. Her toe & inside stalls are already getting so much better. She got many mirages, ATW's, & clips & footed several flip mirages, ATW's, & clips. Josh & I did a few hop overs & Amber wanted to try but we said no because it is pretty tough. Obviously she wanted to show us that she is pretty daring. She tried one or 2 with the inside stall pretty high & got real close. We told her to lower her inside stall & she got even closer where the bag stayed on for a few & then fell off her foot. That was cool but scary at the same time since this could be a real ankle biter.

Josh was dong great also. He hit many new tricks & had a couple of tiltless runs. I think he also hit a blurriest in the middle of a run. Check out his blog for more info.

Damn... my keybrd is getting worse. I push a key once it it typed 2x. argh..

As for me I was doing pretty good. Tricks felt pretty smooth all night. Had several long tiltless & guiltless runs. BOP is getting easier & more consistant. I hit a few tricks that I haven't hit in a while. Torques, blur, couple ripwalks, whirls & drifters. My terrages & smears where ok. My atom smashers are still pretty rare. A lot of DLO's again. That is it! Overall a really good session!

Tomorrow night we will pick up Ken from the Airport & kick with him at Sean's place!!

until next time....

I had to change the topic since my feeble attempt to get some of the other Unity Club members to post in here. Luke did post but disappeared? MIA? Hope he is alright. Conrad & Josh have there own blog. Amber will hopefully start her own blog soon. Hint! As for that Johnny guy his life is going a different path since he had a another baby so I understand that things change. At least say hi more often & try to dust off the shoes & kick some if you can! Damn it! haha.

Ok back to bloggin about Footbag. The Unity Club had a session down in Tucson. Amber, Josh, Conrad, & myself drove down to Tucson to pick up Ken Somolinos from the airport. We should have coordinated kickin here in Phx since he passed through anyway. Doh. Hindsight. We will know better next time. Picking up a shredder from the airport almost made it feel like a tournament.

We got to the airport to pick up Ken, on time I might add, & drove over to Sean's place, the long way. Tucson is setup all weird. That was taken out of a different book of excuses page 10. haha. Certainly not like Phx which is squared off in nice mile grids. ONCE we got to Sean's it was great. His garage is all setup to workout & of course kick. He has those interlocking padded squares. Those work great. I will upgrade my garage after my carpet wears out. We kick from about 6:30 till a bit past 11pm. Since we had a 6 person circle it was tough to stay warm all the time. It was a bit chilly out. Nothing like the North but still. It was still good times! Footbag is so awesome :!:

Sean was doing pretty good considering he is not the type to practice on his own & since Johnny is so busy they don't have a chance to kick anymore. Sean still plays real fast. I am sure if he played more he would slow down a bit.

Amber was doing great. Ken gave her some good tips to help her out. She was getting mirages bs & her toe stall record was increasing through out the session.

Conrad was still on vacation I think. He just didn't seem the same. He did have a few good runs. I am sure once he gets back into school & stuff the game will return to normal!

Josh was doing great. He hit a few new tricks like vortex 8O & had some good runs. Check his blog!

Ken, well what can I say ken is ken! He had some good runs through the session. I am sure he will post a very detailed blog entry soon! It is amazing to see how his game has changed over the years from video to video & also from the first time I seen him play live down in Tucson. I think everyone goes through stages where their game keeps evolving, well of course if they stick with it that is. Ken is putting zoom set more into his run now. Nice addition! His game has always been sick (ill? --- no no sick is better. ill just does not work). Ken it is always a pleasure kickin with you & thanks for the tips on certain things!

As for me I was doing ok. I had a few good runs through out the session. But, I didn't sleep that good (page 25 in the book of Footbag exuses. This book will be out later this year! haha. ) so my game felt a bit off. Also my ankle was letting me know that is was a bit sore. I did, however, have a few new additions to my game last night too. I tried to put some more pixies, quantums & atomics (tripwalks & legbeaters. much easier then toe blur & atom smasher so I will work those into my runs for now). Towards the EOS I was putting tripwalks & legbeates in place of my dimwalks. pdx mirage> tripwalk or legbeater>osis rpt. Had to bail to osis since going into infinity is not always there, YET!

Overall, definitely a great session! Thanks to all! It was a long drive but well worth it. I got home at 5 am after dropping everyone off. Whew a lot of driving. I left my house at 3pm Friday. Luckily since I am a night person this is pretty much my normal schedule.

We didn't think of any good puns that day or night but I did come up with a new word. I think it works but I am just an Engineer so what do I know!

Word of the day!??
Dexlexia - impaired ability to understand the motion of the dex.

  :o 8) We all go through this trying to learn a new move!! It is very appropiate for this sport!

Ken quote:
.... And as I always like to point out, I'm getting old.
I think I got you beat! Age is just a number anyway. Take care of yourself. I will be kickin till I die! I <3 Footbag!

I sure hope I can make a tournament this year. I am having withdrawals. CSS, US open, worlds? Not sure if CSS is happening this year. Anyway I will try.... I am sure I can drag some of the Unity crew with me! Josh, Conrad, Amber, Nate, Johnny???? Ok I am babbling...

later all.....

Kicked 45mins today before work. Warmed up with kicks & 2 add consec & drills. I mainly worked clips & infinities the rest of the session. Toward the end I did some legbeaters. Ahhh so much easier then atom smashers. I think I said that last time.

hightlights:
-20 alt clips
-49 contacts of clip x5>op clip x5 rpt
-a few good legbeaters bs
-only a high of abt 10 infinities :x

My flip butterfly took a while to warmup today. Maybe because it was in the low 50's so it wasn't to warm in the garage. I used my floppy bag today just to see how it felt. Yes it makes things easy but I still need to slow down a bit more. NTS: put foot down faster on atomic set! I will try to kick again tomorrow too!

Had a 40 min. session today before work. It was like repeating yesterday. Deja Vu! I pretty much did the same thing. It is good to keep working the basics but it does get repetitive now & then. I guess it would be worse if I didn't love the sport so much.

mediumlights:
- pretty much the same as yesterday. argh....
- putting adds on my shoes!
-ankle/foot control on flip feeling better! :D

We should have a good friday freestyle session & then on Saturday Amy Westburg, Kirk Gibbons (just emailed me last week. He wants to start playing again), other Unity members (?), & me will have a NET session! Yeah NET! I am already on the dark side or maybe freestyle is the darkside. Ever think of that!? I love both NET & Freestyle so deal with it! I guess guys like Jeremy Mirken & I will have to stick together.

After only 3 1/2 hrs of sleep & 2 1/2 hrs of kung fu I still had the energy to kick for 2 1/2 hrs. Nate kicked with me for a little over 1 hrs. He was doing ok at the beginning but then got tired & pissed off later in the session. He hit smear on one side & close on flip.

I had a ok session but my string length was shorter then usual must have been the lack of sleep (page 40).

medium lights:
-alt clips - 39
-clipx2>op clip x2 rpt 50 contacts
-osii's - only 20
-infinities - 15, 23, 21 & a few low runs in between
-spinning butterfly - new trick
-legbeaters & tripwalks in some runs
-spinning clips 3 out of 5 bs. Much better then they used to be.
-gryo clip 2or3 out of 5 bs. Yeah! Clip practice is paying off!

I am sure someone hit these before but these are new for me. I usually hit oneside occasionally/accidently when I am doing toe stalls. I thought about it & started working it from a hand toss at the EOS & then eventually hit it from other sets. It was a good cool down. It would be a good way to add some style to my runs, eventually.

-frontside x-bdy rake bs (like a monster but into a rake)
-inside stall to atw fs x-bdy rake bs
-clip to atw fs x-bdy rake bs

Tried to do legbeaters from DLO's. Need to work my DLO's more to get more consistent at them. Overall a productive session. We are having a session tomorrow. It should be fun. I will get more sleep!

The Unity club had a session on Friday 1/19. Josh & Conrad started at 1pm & I finally got there at the recreation center at about 1:45. It was raining throughout phx so it was good we started earlier & played at the gym. Nate showed up about 3pm. He played for his normal time. He was doing better then Wed & more positive too. He is normal stuff & a few smears (bsos one time too).

Conrad was doing much better since he almost completely go rid of his vacation legs. Some runs here & there. I think he hit something new but can't remember what. If he ever posts more then a few words in his blog he might remind us.

Josh was doing good till he sprained his ankle. I guess he should listen to me when trying a trick. He can explain if he wants. I don't want to get into it. Hope he is ok!!

I was kickin pretty good through out the 4 + hrs I was kickin. I wore the youngsters out. haha. Ok not completely.

Highlights:
-tapdown bs finally.
-strings/runs: in about 10 runs I hit a 40 :D (josh requested a 40 tiltless run & hit it first try! 8O :D ), 41 8O bonus, 2 30+, 4 or 5 20+, & a few that I won't mention. :D I was really proud of the 40+ runs. I was trying for 50 but couldn't get it. At the end I tried to get 20+ BOP. I got 11 & 17. ok i guess.
-rev whirls & whirls throughout
-tripwalks, smears, legs, a few atom smashers in a few runs.
-footed: atom smasher>paradon. Josh requested this one! Have to work on flip & more paradon's. They felt great!

After the EOS with all the tiltless & BOP work I felt great but it caught up to me at home. That is when I felt how really tired I was. haha. Good times! I need that practice. I will do more!

Today Saturday 1/20 I kicked some NET with Amy Westburg & Kirk Gibbons over by the ASU campus. Amy was doing great as usually. She has only played a few times since 03'. Kirk has some good basics & pretty good spikes. He just needs to play more like I do too. We will play more soon! I think Lisa Mcdaniels & Rob & AJ Adams will be in town soon so we can get some doubles going too. :D

Amy kicked with us for about 1 1/2 hr & had to go to work. Aww.... So Kirk & I kicked Net for another 30 mins & then we decided to freestyle some. Kirk & kicked for 30 mins. He had good kicks & toe stalls. He also can hit some clips, LO's, osis, a few dragonfliers or was it butterfliers. He was pretty tired after that. He has not kicked in years. I decided to kick some more freestyle for another 15 mins before my legs told me they had enough. I finished with a 30+ tiltless run. I kicked alright considering how tired my legs were. That is all....

I had a 2 1/2 kung fu lesson & then later had a 1 hr 20 min solo session last night. Yeah I know only 1 hr 20mins. Pretty weak huh! Warmed up with a the usual for about 20 mins. Then the rest was BOP pretty much non stop. Good endurance building stuff. I was averaging 7 to 10 infinities & 10+ contacts for the BOP drills I was doing. I would hand catch most of the one that started to float away & went right back into more.

Before I kicked I added some weight to my footbags. I also took one out of retirement since it only had one real small hole. Used tear mender on it. Now they play great. I have 3 real good broken in bags & one i am slowing breaking in. All this filling of bags ended up giving a weird dream last night. I was going through some things so I can organize & I keep finding all these weird patterned, not completely round, & several different size footbags. There must have been close to 1000. I keep thinking why did i buy all these. strange. haha

Unity Kick on Friday at Jaycee park since it is nice & warm, finally!

Unity club session in Tempe today. It was a great session once I actually showed up. haha. I know what a slacker. I tried to check my email last night before I went to sleep to see if the session was at 2 or 3 pm but my computer was all messed up. I couldn't boot it up. argh. So I guess 3 pm. Yeah short term memory loss. age problem i guess. haha. Then I was running late too & then the freeway sucked. I am taking all these excuses out of another book. Anway, Conrad, Nate, & Josh kicked about 1 hr 45 mins before I finally got there.

Conrad seemed a bit tired. I guess he was up working on school stuff. He runs were definately not the same.

Nate, well I really didn't see how he did today since I was so late. I think I mentioned that.

Josh was doing real good considering last friday he kinda rolled his ankle. To be young again. He hit a few new tricks. Check his blog when he finally posts. We got some footage on film so it will be great! Ripped warrior on film! nice!

As for me I ended up kicked pretty good once I got there.

highlights:
-38 tiltless contact run on camera
- several long tiltless & BOP runs with a few on film.
-toe blur>paradon> small run! Yeah!
-several toe blurs, smears, & atom smashers in some runs with a few legbeaters & DLO's (forgot to do more DLO's since the others were working)! Legbeaters were off today! Didn't try to many tripwalks since my atom smashers were on!
-worked torques, drifters, a few blenders, gryo mirage for about 45 mins at the end. Josh helped out with some good info! Thanks Josh!!!
-a few good flip sidewalks! that may be new!
-came close to blur>paradon & terrage>paradon! Yeah!

My strong drifter & strong torque are looking & feeling so much better. I hit a flip torques & drifters but a bit crispy. The strong side is getting less crispy too! Gryo mirage was feeling ok. I do lean to much on strong side! Flip side was so tight & effortless. My game is slowly coming together! Got to love it! Go Footbag!

good night...

Had a NET session with Nate Oates, Amy Westberg, Rob & DJ Adams, & Lisa Mcdaniels (Jones now?) Saturday the 27th. Since I had to work that Night I slept in & got there after they started. I was kickin ok. As usually it took me a while to get in the groove. By then everyone was to tired & had to leave. :(

It was great watching Amy & Lisa against Rob & DJ because they had a lot more rallies then when Nate & I played against either of the teams. Always good to watch good NET in action. Rob, DJ & Amy had a few real good spikes. Rob has that good sweep inside & toe slap that he does. He learned a lot from Randy Mulder back in the day. Lisa is just getting back into it after some time off. It was good times. I could have played for 3 or 4 more hours more!! Unfortuately everyone had to go! I think they kicked again today. :( To bad I couldn't make it. Damn it. Why do we have to sleep so much! I will wake up tomorrow & work on some freestyle. I have some drifters, torques, & whirls to work on!

I got up a bit early so I could kick more today. yeah me! I kicked for a little over an hour. I worked the usual & alt pixies, BOP stuff, tapping mirages, drifters & some dyno's at the EOS. My flip clip/butter felt lazy today. geesh. :? When will it ever get more consistent. I really have to think about it so much to make it work. sigh!

mid lights:
-flip dyno> hugh op butterfly. first time on that side. Usually I just hand catch it because it is so far out. It is slowly getting better. Thanks Ken & Josh for the help.
-a lot of strong side drifters
-a couple of flip drifters roll off the foot

Really no long clip or butter contacts. I would consider 50+ clips & 30+ butters a lot for me! One day soon! I have so much to work on to make things more consistent. I would like to have a solid guiltless game someday!

 I am really thinking about going to worlds. Who knows how long till it will be back in the states again. I am not getting any younger. This might really piss off the wife. doh! If I would compete it would be intermediate NET & freestyle since my game is not even close to way way low low open level. Would be fun either way! Not sure how tough it would be to compete in both.

back to work for me....

I kicked 45 mins before work. I did the usual warmup. My legs were pretty sore since I haven't taken a day off from Footbag or Kung fu since Thursday. I just worked on CBOP stuff & some legbeaters.

midlights:
-17 osii's - yeah I know weak. My calf's are sore. excuses, excuses... must have been all that dyno practice yesterday.
- 21 alt clips - weak too.
- 7 or 8 good legbeaters on each side. That what with about 15 attemps on each side so not to bad. I need to find the sweet spot on how to set. Sometimes I set to far back & sometimes to far forward. make up your damn mind. Does some people set it back a bit ( just a slight arc towards or away from you) for a legbeater & forward for an atom smasher? I will look at some vids & check the trick tips!
- 8 or so contacts of pdx mirage>op butterfly rpt. weak!! :(

I want to be able to hit 50 + contacts of osii's, infinities, alt clips, etc. easily! Maybe I am setting the bar to high? Nah.... Go big or stay home. I will kick a couple hours tomorrow night!!

later...

A quick post before bed. I have to flip my schedule around because I have to work day shift for a month. bummer. Anyway..

The unity crew had a session for abt 5 hrs. It was Nate, Conrad, Quin, Josh, & myself. Nate stayed probably less then an hour. He was doing his usual stuff. Conrad is getting is regular game back. He had a nice few runs & had a couple new moves. Locomotion & food. He might have hit Food before. Josh was doing great. He hit a lot of new moves. Check his blog. Nice stuff.

As for me. I didn't hit anything new but a lot of good runs & combos.

Highlights:
-toe blur>toe blur! Finally!
-a few different runs with bsos smears, tripwalks, slapdowns, dimwalks, atoms, legbeaters! so probably about 8 + contacts with only those tricks bs. I will keep adding them more & more!
-hit tapdown bs a few times
-ducking pdx mirage 3x. once on flip & 2x on strong as you can figure
-a few good dyno's in some runs
-torque midrun! flip is still to a hand catch & more of a stepping op osis
-high tiltless runs for the day: 48 8) , 35, 27, 26 & a few others
-terrage>terrage again
-a few paradons & drifters here & there
-sidewalk almost bs in a run! Yeah drop was on flip. flip still sucks
-a few 15+ BOP runs

There might have been a few other things. It was a great session & the weather is getting warmer. We will try & get some more footage next friday. Josh... hint!
