California residents hit me uppp

Post by Pyroman924 »

So, I started circle kicking around 2 years, hit my first real freestyle trick, which was a pendulum, last January. I didn't start practicing daily though until this past August but since then I have been progressing steadily. I've only been to one event which was the RFA YEAH Jam on December 30th. I was only able to attend one night but I had the time of my life. That's about it though so on to the good stuff.

I had a session yesterday with Siarhei. I made him really drill his flipside heh. I also taught him Pickup. I made him hit lipside first then his strong side. He wasn't too keen on it at first and he tried to pass it back to once or twice but I made him keep going. He hit both though in just a few tries and I could tell he was happy with his performance. He even hit Pickup back to back today. As for my game, I was surprising even myself! I stuck mainly to Pickup, Flip Legover, Flip Osis, and Flip Butterfly. I had some cool runs though that were unique for me.

 Butterfly> Flip Osis> Far Legover>ATW>Pickup>ATW>SS Osis>Lost it here at an attempt at Far Pickup
 Pickup x4 :!: :!:
 Pickup>Legover>Legover>Pickup
 Far Pickup BSOS :!: :!: :P

It was really odd with the BSOS Far Pickup... It was the last song on the CD and I had attempted this a couple times already. Well, I finally managed to start it on the FLipside and right when I hit the 2nd Far Pickup, the song ended. o_O It was pretty cool. I've also managed to hit Whirl on my strong side more often too! I hit it 8 times today at school, 5 of which were nice and clean.! I'm going to not do anymore though until I get to this point with my Flip Whirls.

Going to have a session tonight as well, going to focus on challenges and I'm going to try for 5 back to back Osis'.

It's great you have somebody to play with, that should help you develop faster. I also recommend you attend more footbag events. It sounds like you had lots of fun at the last one, so you probably don't need more convincing, but footbag tournaments are a great way to push your game and you meet a lot of real cool people too.

If your goal is to get really good at footbag, I suggest you take advantage of your status as a student and play as much as you possibly can. You may not realize it now, but once college/jobs/the real world hit, you have a lot less time to dedicate to mastering a beanbag.

If you stick with the sport for a long time, and you post regularly in your blog, I think you'll find it a lot of fun in the future to look back on these early posts and see how far you've progressed.

Good luck Alan!

Thanks Ken! I'm definitely trying to use my time as much as possible lately. I now have lunch with Siarhei so that means 45 minutes for shred time each day. I'm not sure I'll be able to make it to any events though until Worlds... there's little to no other shredders here. Though I think Aric McIntosh said he was moving down March.

I shredded for 30 minutes last night. Not so much to comment on. I managed to hit Osis x3 again and Far Pickup BSOS again but that's it really... My flipside Whirls are going to need a lot of work so I'm just going to start with hand serving it and practicing the dexing motion until I feel I have the placement and speed right. Then I'll try it set from Clipper. That's it though really. I'm going to go for about 3.5 hours of total shred time tomorrow. 45 minutes at lunch and 30 after school with Siarhei then a little over 2 hours when I get home later. I had an interesting idea for a possible new freestyle move but I don't know if it's already a move, plus it's really hard for me to explain... let alone hit heh. 8 /

So, I wasn't able to get 3.5 hours in today like I wanted, I only managed 2 due to shin splints and energy. I didn't get too much sleep last night or at school today so I was lacking on stamina. Hit some cool shit when I played though. As it turns out, Near Pickup's are surprisingly harder than Toe Pickup's but I still managed to BSOS it today. I actually managed to BSOS a good many things today in the same string. It was Osis, Pickup, Legover, Far Legover, and Far Pickup. I don't remember the order I hit them in but I managed to squeeze them all in the same run. Best string I've hit I think. One of my Far Pickup's was rakey though so that wasn't as pleasing as it could have been. I tried some Flip Whirls today. My dex is getting quicker which is good. Didn't hit any though. We'll see how tomorrow works out but I don't think I'll be shredding too much.

Heh, not too hardcore Tom... It was spread out through 3 different times of the day, though I still didn't manage it. Thank you though! I forgot to add that I hit a really odd move that I don't recall ever seeing. It's kind of hard to explain but I'll do my best. Set from a right foot clipper, I bring my setting leg around in front of me and dex the bag from out to in ending in an inside stall. The odd thing about it is that my dexing leg is horizontal throughout the entire dex until the inside delay. I don't know if that makes sense but if you know the name of it I would much appreciate it. :D

Sounds like a far legover ending on inside stall. It's a sweet move. The fact that the dex is done horizontally makes it more stylee in my opinion. It might make learning swirl easier too. lol

Sen: That's what I was thinking, just wasn't sure if the dex being horizontal affected anything. :D

David: Yes, I'm in Raleigh. Over by I540 to be more exact. I don't know how far from you that is but if you're ever around let me know!

So, I took today and yesterday off due to shin splints from Fiday and just no time. But today I was at the store picking up some stuff and I got bored and hit three of the cleanest Flipside Osis' I've ever managed to do! It was pretty kick ass. :D Other than that, not much. I'll have a nice long couple of hours of shred time tomorrow so I'll let you know how it goes. :P

Ok, so I just had a 40 minute session in the garage. It's in the 20's, oh so perfect! I had an amazing session today. My Flipside was kicking ass. I hit dozens of Flip Gyro Osis', Flip Pickup and Flip Far Legover's are almost nothing for me now. Flip Clipper and Flip Osis are getting easier on a daily basis. I actually hit a Stepping Set today on my strong side without even thinking about it but I was too shocked to hit anything off of it. It was a beauty though! I practised my Sick 3 for the Online Competition as well. I hit it twice on my strong side!! They were so clean my feet almost orgasmed... 8 D And I almost hit it on my Flipside. I just need to practice the final move with my left leg. It's goes 4>3>4 and I think it's pretty stylie looking.

Anyways, I've also been looking into shred music a LOT lately and if anyone is interested, these bands are all perfect shred beats in my opinion. Nice selection of speeds and intesnity. The list is as follows:

Razed in Black
Rotersand
Switchblade Symphony
The Crystal Method
Angelspit
Suicide Commando
God Module
:wumpscut:
Combichrist
Front Line Assembly
Apoptygma Berzerk
Grendel
VNV Nation
The Birthday Massacre
Funker Vogt
System Syn
Assemblage 23
Mindless Self Indulgence
Velvet Acid Christ
Informatik

Snow day today, no school.
I actually might make it to my new gym for the first time today. If I do, I'll be doing probably a lot of cardio stuff and going to the gymnasium there to shred. They have a pool and jacuzzi there too so that'll kick ass as well. I'll post later to tell how it went.
As for yesterday, I hit Whirl midstring for the first time. It was only about 5 contacts but I hit it like so Butterfly>Whirl>Osis>Flip Butterfly>Gyro Osis. It was very satisfying.

So, I finally got to go to the gym today and holy shit, I worked my ass off. Ok, workout recap:
1st: Cardio on the Ellipticals for 30 minutes= 3.5 miles.
2nd: Treadmill for 20 minutes= 2 miles.
3rd: 25 50 pound leg presses.
4th: 25 65 pound leg extensions.
5th: 25 65 pound leg curls.
6th: 30 50 pound I forget what it's called but it works the muscles between the shoulder blades.
7th: 23 50 pound straight up bench press things(I forget the name!).
8th: 23 50 pound straight out bench presses.
9th: 12 35 pound bicep curls each arm(my biceps suck ass>_>).
10th: 25 50 pound resisted crunches.
11th: 25 50 pound resisted lower back excersises(forgot the name of this one too...).
12th: 20 minutes on the elliptical again= 2 miles.
13th: 10 minutes on the bicycle= 2 miles.

Then I went to go chill in the jacuzzi and did some laps after that! I feel in shape heh. I have a wonderful oppurtunity on my doorstep though. I might be able to get 2 or 3 people into Freestyle footbag very soon. I was talking to one of the trainers at the gym about footbag and she was very, VERY interested in it. She also has 2 sons that she said would love to try it out so if I'm lucky, I'll have at least 2 new people to shred with and help along. Which is nice now that I have a lot of my basic stuff down pretty well. It's very pleasing to help someone learn something new and even better when you get to see them hit that trick they've been busting their ass to hit.

And on top of that I had about an hour of shred today as well. Let's see, I hit my Sick 3 twice more today and one time yesterday. I can nearly hit it flipside but the last trick I can't yet do on the Flipside so I'm working on that. Flip Butterflies and Flip Osis' and virtually everything off of my Flip Clipper are so unbelievably easy now. My Whirls are getting better too. I can;t hit it Flip though which I'm afraid means I'm going to make myself doing them until my Flip catches up. They're SO FUN to do though so it'll be hard. I am so happy with where my game is going. It's such a nice feeling. But, my FAVORITE trick that I hit today for the first time was
Far Dyno :!: :!: :!: I thought about it a little and managed to hit it very cleanly on my third attempt. And I've hit it twice more as well. I'm in the clouds right now.

Winterfest Dance at my school is tomorrow night. I'm going with some friends. It's going to be a good night. Only bad thing is that all they play is rap... and I don't like rap. So we'll see where it goes.

So, I wanted to get a session in before the dance tonight and it went spectacularly!
I wanted to concentrate on my Flip Dyno and my Flip Whirls mainly. I didn't manage to hit a Flip Whirl but I'm getting the motion and timing down which is what is giving me grief right now, but it's getting better. I must have attempted Flip Dyno at least 50 times today. I hit it 7 times, but I only sealed it once, but that was much more than I had expected to hit today. Surprisingly the motion wasn't as awkward feeling as I had initially expected it to be.
I hit my first 5 ADD today though. I was doing a small run at the end of my session to get myself cooled off and I went for a strong side Dyno and without thinking I went for a Symposium Dyno. Well, I missed it that time, but I got curious and tried it again and nailed it very cleanly!! :P I've been having some wonderful sessions lately. Not sure why but I'm loving every second of it. Now I just have to show off at school Monday.

**EDIT: Meh, Pete told me there wasn't such thing as Symposium Dyno, just Symple so it doesn't get the ADD. Damnit. >_> Ah, but it still felt good to hit. 8) So, I still have yet to hit 5. Oh well. :D

Went to the gym again today. Almost exactly the same as Friday but I managed to get in more repititions on the machines than last time. After all that jaaz, I went to shred in this really nice room there. Perfect surface, not too grippy, not too slippery. Mirror's and everything. I didn't do too many strings. I was too tired so instead I focused mainly on my Flip Dyno, Flip Osis, and Flip Mirage. I spent a couple minutes tweaking my MIrage so I could hit it more consistently. I found the perfect set height and managed 6 Flip Mirages in a row. New record for me. ; ) I managed to hit Flip Dyno 3 more times and nearly hit Dyno back to back. I released it to late on the first one. I managed to hit Flip Dyno out of a Butterfly as well which is a first. I spent some time tweaking my set placement and timiing for Osis and I think I found a consistent set and time for it which is good. I ache though. But I get to show off tomorrow.

Only shredded for two 45 minute sessions at school today. Didn't do much other than practice Dyno. Hit it a few times but not enough mto satisfy me. I technically hit Reverse Whirling Rake in the second session but it wasn't clean so I'm not going to count that as a hit. Not much special really.

I do have pictures from the Winterfest Dance on Saturday. FUn night. Shitty music yes, but fun night. I did manage to hit Dyno very clean in dress pants, dress shirt, and dress shoes for a small crowd. Was pretty cool.

I'm the one in the blue shirt with all the chainmaille.
