Too bad I can't be there for "Reading Week" -- I've been dying for you to make a video for ages, though...so do it! Props on the flip flurry combos -- I've never seen you hit that. Oh, and props on that super swirly combo that you wanted forever!!! Do you have tips for far swirl-like moves? I can only do reverse swirls and recently managed it symple, but it must be harder, I think.

i just read a post in matt cross' footblog about his friendship with tom that got me thinking...

i really really play for the love of the sport, because i definately don't play for the people or the atmosphere.

in all honesty, i have no serious connection to anyone in footbag beyond playing with them. i haven't made any tight tight friendships with people the way matt and tom have. i haven't made any friendships where i talk with some one all the time or share great experiences with them or what not. I'm not saying that i haven't made friends with any one, i'm close with my club mates, the shredmonton crew and various others throughout our community, but just no one stands out as being much more than a footbag friend.

This all coming out wrong. maybe it's because i'm tired, i don't know but i really sound like i'm just bashing on friends of mine, and i don't want to put them down. they are all great people...

what i mean to say is that our relationships are all based around footbag (which is to be expected since we are all sooo passionate about it). of course we still care about each other. i still want to know about what's going on in other parts of their lives: how's your daughter doing? how was your christmas? how is work treating you? did you find a new place to rent? need help looking? wanna go catch a beer after shred and get your greivances off your chest? i like know more about them than what they were working on at their last session, but the reality is once we pack up our gear and head home i don't expect a phone call the next day to see if i wanna go clubbing or hit the movies or come over for some food. at the same time though, i don't call either. why? i dunno, i guess because that's just the way it is. we are footbag players. we play footbag.
It's kinda like school friends, you know? the kids you would hang out with at school, chat with during classes, but never hang out with outside of school unless it was a school gatering or a friends birthday. Not that you didn't like them, just that you never connected on a deeper level, and i think that's probably what it is.
i need to stress to any one who reads this that i'm not complaining, nor am i bashing the wonderful people i have met through footbag, and i am most definately not putting down my club mates!!! i am simply making an observation as to my relationship with the people i share a deep common passion with.

i think of all the people i have met through footbag, there are 2 people i have connected with alot. Arthur Ledain from france (but we never really talk anymore, nor did we much if i wasn't hanging with the french crew) and josh. sessions with him were always filled with laughter, we would shoot the shit all the time. we have similar senses of humour, TONS of common interests outside of footbag, the list goes on. alot of the most memorable sessions were him and i. The fall/winter we spent breaking into the university dorms to access the gym were by far the most entertaining. i wish he played more, but alas he has a life outside of footbag to worry about. and as with any other, the central focus of our relationship is footbag, and doesn't go far beyond it anymore.

i must admit i'm envious of tom and matt's friendship. Something based in footbag, but that goes far beyond the game. i hope one day some one in footbag will mean as much to me as they obviously mean to each other.

I really appreciated your PMs about your relationship and thoughts about relationships back when I was going through hell with my ex. I really felt a connection to you even though I had never personally met you at the time. I thank you for being my friend. I wish we could become better friends, but you live on the other side of the continent. Fuck, if I could, I would be definitely wanting to hangout, smoke and shoot the shit with you if I lived nearby. It's just with footbag, we don't get that perk. Everyone is so goddamn spread out that you cannot connect with someone on a deeper level because you only get to see that someone once a year. It's lame.

And I can only jerk off to the fruit bowl pic sooo many times. Where is the 2007 version?!?!? ZOMG!11

I totally appreciate the kind of friendship you're talking about, and I never experienced it before this year in Toronto...well, actually, kind of -- do you remember Taras? Did you ever meet?

Anyway, I don't know if we have much in common, and our personalities are very different (I am introverted and your are extroverted...or, like, whatever, to put it simply), but it would be cool to get to know you better and hang out and jazz when I get back. I could definately use a close friend in Winnipeg.

I've been meaning to write a "footbag makes me so happy" post for a while...I will when I get home.
