I don't think the Packers will be able to attract the free agents they need to be competitive. And they aren't going to build what they've already got into a playoff-caliber team, either.

Favre is officially back. Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Ruvell Martin even stepped up. We have a good receiving core. The O-line is young and improving. Although Clifton and Tauscher will be back next year to make it even better. Ahman green, used to be amazing. He's still good at some points. The defense has some really strong spots. Especially at linebacker. I believe (dont hold me to it) that AJ Hawk led the team in tackles, closely followed by Nick Barnett, who is a perennial monster in the middle. The D-line is the weakest part of the defense in my opinion. The secondary however, is exceptional. Al Harris and Charles Woodson played great this year. Although the free safety needs to be replaced. Nick Collins holds down strong safety pretty well.

Overall next year Packers>Bears

Favre's back, but he's clearly not as good as he used to be. Every Green Bay fan says "oh but his receivers have been injured..." but that doesn't excuse Favre. He doesn't have the accuracy he used to, he's had lingering injuries in his throwing hand & arm, and he makes poor decisions.

And you have to wonder if his heart's in it, not just from his decision to come back but also from how he plays when his team is losing. He'll throw an interception and then smile as he walks off the field... I don't get it.

Driver's good, AJ Hawk's good, Kampan's good, there are some other players who step up when they need to. I would say Al Harris & Charles Woodson are OK, guess I'm not as big on either of them as Henry. Woodson's still fast, but he's getting old.

I think the core of their D is good and young and can be built into something scary. Not convinced they'll be good enough by next year. I don't think their Offense is good, it's all Favre & Driver unless they sign some free agents.

Have you watched any games where Jennings was healthy? He is just as explosive as driver. Its nuts. Those two are going to have some pretty good seasons.

On the topic of Favres heart being in it or not. Of course it is. I'm not a naive packer fan who thinks favre is the greatest thing ever (he used to be, not now though) but hes still in the top 7 or 8 quarterbacks in the league. The biggest problem is when the team is losing by 2 or more scores, it seems like he tries to make up the deficit with one throw, which is when the game ending pick is thrown. He doesn't lose the games where he throws late INT's, he just ices them, they were already lost.

Oh, and to prove the packers will be better than the bears:

Maybe Chicago could kidnap Carson Palmer? I think some of Grossman's problems would go away with a better offensive line/more experience. Who knows, maybe in two-three years he'll be a top-tier QB? Too bad the rest of the team will probably be far worse in two-three years...

I don't think Favre is top seven or eight. I'd say Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, Drew Brees, Donovan McNabb, Matt Hasselbeck, Jon Kitna, and Vince Young have all done better jobs as QB the last season, in the sense of being an asset to their team. Probably some others as well, like Steve McNair, Brad Johnson, Jeff Garcia, & Philip Rivers as far as doing what their coaches needed them to do to win the game. I'm not saying Favre is less talented than any of these guys, but I think on a practical level they've all played better in this past season.

And really, Favre isn't getting any younger. He's in the twilight of his career, so I pretty much assume that he'll be a little worse every season, until he has a season where he's got nothing left.

I guess we shall see...

What YOU dont know, because your from chicago, is that he has a wig for his wig and a brain for his heart.

(which means that packer fans will be devastated when favre leaves and aaron rodgers will have to step up. Rodgers is worthless. If we just would have hung on to some of our past Favre Backups we would be in a totally different situations. Such QBs consist of Aaron Brooks, Matt Hasselbeck, and some other guy i forget the name of that was pretty good)
