Shred: Tuesday, February 6, 2007
Had a good session with Mike today. It started out pretty average, trying to throw in some new moves and get away from the boring comfortability of the "daily grind". I did more pandoras and spinning pickups, which was okay. I had a repeat combo that included merkon > inspinning clipper, which was good to school my toe spinning. I've lost inspinning from clipper though...it's so bad! Oh, I did hit flip double spinning clipper for the first time in months though! First try, I think. That felt gooood.

Near the end Mike sat down from sore legs and I schooled the crap out of reverse whirls without a break. This was just after I realized that I can do them without pain! Well, I kind of realized it at Sunday's session when I did blurry reverse whirls but thought that it would be limited to that move at the time because the stepping controls the height for the downtime part. Anyway, here's some stuff that made me happy:

-far reverse whirl > reverse whirl [repeat] > far reverse whirl and then flip spinning reverse whirl a couple moves later. I'd hit this last move for the first time tonight and surprisingly I think I can do it quite well (as long as I remember to over spin and dex wide).! -- I was really happy after this!
-spinning rev whirl both sides
-"reverse tomahawk" both sides
-ducking clipper > spin rev whirl [repeat]
-runs with all the blurry and stepping rev whirls (will do the drill soon!)

Maybe more rev whirl stuff? The flip rev tomahawk took a long time...
Then I also hit alpine parallax both sides, which was rad...actually I think it was beesauce for the first time ever hitting them. Then I tried a run with spinning ducking mirage, legover, and pickup all beesauce, but didn't hit it. I will do more spinning ducking now. I think I did all 4 legovers and then the ducking clipper > spin duck clipper [repeat] in a run though...

Anyway, it was fun.
I also discovered I can do paradons, on Sunday. So I tried some stuff, but they're more rusty and I land hard on them, so practice is in order. I want Sunil's paradon > fog [repeat] and drifter > dlo > paradon [repeat] and stuff... also pdx dlo > paradon [repeat]. I did quite a few pdx dlos today :)

Shred: Thursday, February 8, 2007
Manditory bi-weekly Mike Faille shred.
Had a radical highlight:

spinning ducking clipper > mobius [beesauce] and dropped the run on BSOSing spinning reverse whirl  That felt good!

-7ish far reverse whirls
-13 reverse whirls (good); 7 reverse whirls (bad)
-far reverse whirl > dlo > paradon [repeat]
-ducking clipper > spinning clipper [repeat] x 15ish (I think this is my most, though I didn't drop for any good reason...)
-gyro reverse whirl (I don't think I hit it flip)

Mobius is feeling more consistant.
Oh, I also did a couple "PS" reverse whirls and they didn't hurt too much :D I think I may have also hit spinning reverse whirl > blurry reverse whirl? And that ducking clipper > spinning rev whirl [repeat] a few times again.

Spinning out of far reverse whirl feels wicked -- what a sweet move! I land pretty hard though, and my shins have been getting weak. It's probably affecting my knees too, though that may also be because I tried to go all day at work standing without my knee braces...

Mike also had some wicked accomplishments; he finally hit tap beesauce, and tap again good side in the same run! Then he hit flip tapping pickup, and followed by goodside tapping pickup, which he claims he'd never hit before... His ducking was looking really solid too, and he had a handful of good flip osis moments, like back-to-backs midstring.

Shred: February 11, 2007:
Had a decent FAT session at Bahen Centre.
I really wanted to film, since we had a bit of change in location and it looked GOOD, plus Josh and Andrew and Cassy showed up which would have added to the video, but I really wanted to play.

Not too many highlights for me that I remember. I'm so used to playing with just Mike and getting a lot of self serves... Adam was sooo close to alpine whirlygig. Josh is super consistant.

I had a 49-contact run that had barely any bails, I think; it was pretty cool.
I also had a run with gyro DLO beesauce, and mobius beesauce, and then a spinning reverse whirl.
Oh and I also did a bunch of far rev whirl > gyro clip [repeat] -- that felt fun!

Shred: February 13, 2007:
Pretty eventful schooling session at my place with Mike and Adam. I hit a bunch of neat stuff:

-blurry ducking clipper > mobius
-mobius > blurry rev whirl
-mobius > rev ps whirl
(sooo close to all of these flipside, blah! Mobius is getting consistant, but I kind of lost one side a bit) Oh these last two were both first try, which felt cool! Actually, the first one may have been first try too..

-reverse maelstrom (off the foot, flip)
-blurry ducking clipper beesauce (my good stepping is my bad stepping ducking... really inconsistant...)

I was so close to stepping rev whirl > blurry rev whirl [repeat] so many times. It rolled off once or twice. I was surprised that I was so close. I've hit the whirl variation before, but I haven't been doing many stepping and blurry rev whirls, so I thought I would have to warm up to it more... That was a super cool surprise.

I was also suuuper close to mobius > diving clipper [repeat]
And I kept missing spin rev whirl > far rev whirl [repeat]

I have a feeling I'm missing stuff.
It was fun.

Oh, I also hit symp rev whirl for the first time both sides yesterday. It was downtime, which I don't like in regular whirls, so I was thinking of trying to get them "uptime", which would require a set basically...which made me think that if I can do that that I will be able to do some really cool stuff out of a symp rev whirling set! Coool. Reverse whirlwalk? Well...I'll try the symp rev whirl first and see how it goes.

I'll also try the full reverse ps whirl > symp whirl [repeat] drill.

It's so fun to have something that I'm able to do!
Oh yeah, I also tried out pixie sets, and my flip is gone almost completely, but my good is okay and it didn't hurt during or after, so I'm going to try that a bit more. I was thinking of today of how awesome it would be to be able to do some painless shuffle!!!

Oh, I also got BOTS and Art of the Game in the mail yesterday. AOTG is terrible quality and I only really watched Ales' section with, with Mike. The entire video is infected with this TERRIBLE flicker. The slow motion is even worse (a slowed-down version of the flickeriness) and the editing is really sub-par (is that what I mean to say?). I don't know when I will watch it...

BOTS is just wicked. I'm really excited to make Marita watch it :D
I've watched it twice at Mike's, and I watched the bloopers and part of making of yesterday. I can't wait to watch it again! My one complaint is that there is not nearly enough of Aleksi :(

Awesome Erik! Props on everything! 8 ) How do your knees and hip feel when you hit all that stuff though?
BOTS is the shit man. Have you watched the Best Combos and Best of Shred sections yet? Those are insane.

Yeah, that would be so cool, Adam!
I was actually thinking of sick threes at yesterday's session. I never really thought about entering the online comps because I never had moves, but now I kind of do. Let's do it!

I really want to shred with you again. Stepping rev whirl is a great idea! I will for sure try it at my next shred.

Haha -- thanks Janis :)
I also hit pixie rev whirl both sides, but I'd hit that before when I first learned reverse whirls, years ago. Trying to get pixies back a bit -- flip is so weak and I think they may have hurt a little, so I'm going to be careful...

The reverse whirls don't hurt at all, surprisingly!! The only thing that may be not so good is that I land fairly hard on them (especially far rev whirl) -- that directly affects my shin splints which have been acting up (but not preventing me from doing anything yet) and probably indirectly affecting my knees (pounding is never good...).

The last time I tried a regular whirl (the very first day I met Adam Greenwood, in Winnipeg this past summer) it hurt a lot...just a regular whirl. So reverse makes a HUGE difference and it feels AMAZING to be able to do some cool stuff with it!

Thanks for the comments.

Oh yeah, I learned a secret for my stepping ducking recently! I can totally do it quite consistantly (probably 7 or 8 out of 10) if I link it out of a spinning clipper! Gonna try to flipside that blurry ducking clipper > mobius link tonight if Mike Faille accepts my invitation for shred.

Shred: February 20, 2007:
-far rev whirl > ps mirage > same rev whirl [repeat]
-spin rev whirl > step rev whirl [both sides]
-spin rev whirl > rev whirlygig [both sides]
-mobius > far rev whirl [beesauce]
-fog > ducking DLO [both sides]
-diving clipper > mobius [repeat]

I was also really close to gyro DLO > ducking DLO both sides, and rev whirlygig > gyro DLO both sides too. Probably other stuff -- it was a super cool day for like, small combos!

Not much else to say. Mike is totally adopting my reverse whirls, though, which is cool. He was beesaucing them quite a bit (hit flip for the first time today, I think?) and he was hitting goodside like every attempt. He also hit 3 or 4 in a row goodside.

My shins have been feeling REALLY weak lately so I laid off the reverse whirls today. I hope it goes away and is just a result of me doing something higher impact that my body has not been used to for a few years. I did foot double spinning reverse whirl on two consecutive first tries though, just for fun.
