Awesome David. Good luck on your performance. I'm sure you'll do great. It's nice that your parents are going too! I have to have a big fight with my mother to get her to even watch a minute long clip of me, which by the time she does, has no valule left in it.
Kick some ass man!

At Euros in Lausanne, 4 Square was one of the main events, just like Routines, Shred and Net. There was a system where you got 2 buttons in the beggining - a red one, and a blue one. First you battled against people who had both of them. If you won, you took their red buttons and exchanged it for a bigger one (for semis). If you lost, you still could play agains other guys who also had only one left, and if you won you advanced to semis too with a bigger blue one. The same thing happened in the semis and finally 4 winners where chosen for the final 4 Square match. What was really cool, was that quite a big audience gathered around to watch the finals, there was a person with a microphone doing all the talking and building the hype. In the finals the level was pretty high, so lots of really cool rallies and trick shots were made, always getting a crazy reaction from the crowd. It really felt cool, the players were me, Steve Goldberg, Max Kerkhoff I think and Tuukka Antikainen. Everyone really got into it, and judging by this, and the fact that it's definitely easier to understand for a person who is seeing it for the first time, then to understand freestyle, I think it could be a better way to promote footbag. Actually 4 Square will probably used in Poland as a tool to get more recognition for the sport and maybe some new players in all disciplines.

So last night I had my Talent show and it went really well. Here’s the setup.
So a few weeks ago my friend texted me and told me there was a school talent show so I filled out the form and handed it in and hoped for the best. Two weeks later I had an audition and it went really well. From that I made the cut for the final show and I got an $800 summer gig. So in reality, the show was a success before I even was in it really.
Friday night there was a dress rehearsal. I dropped once and had some solid choreography. Went over pretty well, ate dinner with some tap dancers, and went to a party that night.
Yesterday my parents drove the 3 hours from Bethlehem to my school to watch me in the show. I ate dinner with them at chilis and then they dropped me off so I could get ready and shit. I stood in the dressing room bathroom reciting my little speech. It was basically in this format:
- introduce myself
- talk about the diff. between hacky and footbag
- kicks
- basic stalls
- atw
- clipper
- talk about my experience and my rankings and tournaments
After that I planned on doing a routine. I went through the speech without forgetting much and felt confident.
I chilled downstairs with the other acts until the show started. The acts that were present were these:
- a singer girl
- a ben foldsish singer/piano player
- a beatboxer
- a tap dancing squad
- a singer boy
- another singer chick
- a hip hop dance squad (like 10 people)
- an Indian dance ensemble who is like, nationally recognized (20 people)
- the Penn harmonics (an acapella group)
- some hacky sack nerd
I talked to the people downstairs and they were chill. Got a hack circle going with the beat boxer and the piano kid. It was neat. I was up 3rd. Before I know it they called me out.
I stood there behind the curtain as they introduced me, and I got this feeling that I can’t describe. I get it every time before I compete. It is the culmination of all the practice and all the time and worrying, and it just feels so good. That moment before you go on is priceless. The curtain opened and I looked out at about 300 people, and I could see one of my good friends here in the front row. My parents were right behind him. A few girls in the back screamed my name (turned out later it was the tap dancers, who had already went).
I walked out, grabbed a mic, and I was home man. Like, the most natural place for me now is on stage. I just flow. I was talking about footbag, cracking jokes, and everyone loved it. My mom said she didn’t know I was that funny. It made it so great to have my parents there. I made some joke about meatloaf being my routine song (it wasn’t) and I just heard my dads laugh above everyone else’s. It really meant a lot they came out for it.
I went through my speech with some additions to it off my head, like having the audience count as I did consecutive kicks. (I said the counting was for the math majors, they liked that). Everyone really liked clippers, and me saying I was ranked #1 in USA got some “oh!’sâ€

Sup ladies.

So today is monday, which is the best of the week. Let me educate you why that is.
On modays I only have two classes and then we freestyle in the afternoon. But there is one outstanding fact that sets this day apart from the rest. Today is Ceaser Wrap day.
Named after the noble king of Rome I beleive, the Ceaser wrap is a noble choice for any young college student seeking refuge from hunger at "Fresh Express". Fresh express is an upstanding establishment on campus serving a daily wrap, stir fry, and assorted deli concoctions. Monday they bust out all the stops. Let me explain.
I walk up to Fresh Express, my eyes glowing with a glimmer only lettuce covered in dressing can produce. I get in line, and it seems as if everyone else on campus has realized the goodness that is Monday @ Fresh, so I wait for a few minutes. But this is like waiting to get into heaven, you would sit in line for hours, even days.
Soon it is my time. I make sure it is really my turn (didn't want to cut off some girl who had been waiting even longer than I). I step up and am asked what type of bread I want. White, wheat, spinach, tomato basil. My heart stops. I feel like risking it, breaking out of my shell and trying tomato basil. Or perhaps the spinach. But my consistant personality bursts through, and it is as if I am watching myself say "Wheat please!"
The Fresh Express employee (or should I say heaven-sent wrap maker from above) takes their gloved hand and grabs the wrap, slapping it down on the counter. "Croutons? Dressing?" she says enticingly. My hand quivers, I can't speak. I point to both, nodding as my saliva glands begin their weekley watering.
She puts down a bed of croutons, bathes them in dressing, and then slaps chicken and lettuce right on top. She folds the wrap twice, tucking the contents away inside folds of bread. Taking her knife like a septer she cuts in half, the croutons crying as the knife slices. She wraps the wrap in paper, placing a fresh express sticker on the now finished gift. She wishes me a happy lunch as I take the wrap from her, a ceremonial passing that happens only once a week.
I head to the cashier, the final step on my journey to pleasure. He swipes my Penn State card and offer me a drink. I gladly except the liquid nourishment. I grab my wrap and drink and sit down with my friends. They look at me in disgust as I open up my wrap, the dressing pouring out the sides in a river of Caeser. They have all gotten roast beef or tuna or something, but I know better. I rise above, I am the victor at this lunch table. Humans cower under my power as I bite into the lucious wrap. I feel the energy surging through me, every bit of lettuce thanking the vegetable gods that I am the one who will consume it.
I own the wrap in about 7 minutes, my teeth like a wood chipper as I devour the lunch time meal. My friends gasp in amazement as they only begin the 2nd half of their own lunches. HAHAHAHA I laugh, peering down at the meer mortals from my now elevated mental state of heavely wrapness. How dare they even eat in my presence? I have just conquered a meal fit for a king! Bow to me!
I gather up the scraps of my meal, looking around me at the other midday diners in Fresh express. How little they know of the joy of Monday. It is almost an insult to get anything but the Casear wrap on this holy day.
I throw the paper in the garbage because I am too cool to recycle. My tight fitting jeans buckle under my now larger waist. The tight denim grips my sultry buttocks. Ladies swoon with delight.
I walk back to my dorm, a victory march I can only equate to David walking back from his battle with goliath. Bevier calls me to tell me of an afternoon session. Little does he know I have the power of Ceaser on my side. Today I will conquer the hacky.
