Shred: February 25, 2007:
Really good FAT shred with everyone plus Sam.
I hit a couple neat things:
-blurry ducking clipper > stepping rev whirl
-spin rev whirl > rev tomahawk

I'm very excited to play outside again, and to wear my FAT shirt!!

Adam hit blurtigo (though I didn't see it).

Thanks!
I come home at the end of May, I think, Andrew. I'm very excited to see you guys again and shred and hang out.

My shin splints acted up bad today.
So I looked up how to fix them and found some info. It said to heat, deep-muscle-massage, and elevate. So I did some massage with Tiger Balm. I really need one of those heating/ice pads that can do both -- that would be so handy, considering my vulnerability to footbag-related injuries lately.
It seems like every time I relearn a concept and get all excited about it I also relearn an injury that prevents me from doing it a couple days later (Atomic, drifters, double downs, reverse whirls...) Although the shin splints will probably prevent me from doing everything if I can't fix them. Blah. If I could just do reverse whirls I would be happy.
It hurt to walk home today -- that sucks!
Bu how!

I agreed to work for my boss' friend at her coffee shop for a full shift before my closing shift tomorrow. So I'm supposed to find this new place I've never been and start work at 6:30AM, and then continue working for 14 hours total at my regular job. It's 1:30 and I can't sleep and my alarm will go off in, like, less than 4.5 hours...

I want to draw.
I met some comic artist friends of Mike's the other night. I was geeking out inside -- one is a professor of sequential art at OCAD! I want to get good so bad.
I also beat Metal Gear Solid 3 tonight; more geeking out!

I filmed basics from different angles today for a "Beginner's Guide to Footbag" that I am going to add to Hackrifice. I feel so helpless when I get someone new into footbag and they just never get into it, so this will be my way of teaching newbies when I can't tutour them myself in private.

I also thought it would be neat to make it into a DVD (maybe with a dubbed track for audio tips?) to hand out for, like, $1 at outdoor public sessions. I don't know when I will have it ready, but I'm excited about it. I filmed basic kicks, stalls, 2 adds, and the BOPs.

Shred: March 3, 2007
Mike happened to come over around midnight and after a while of "handbag" (which is footbag with hands instead of feet, to clarify...) and some livingroom pants shred, we decided to have a spur of the moment 2-AM hallway shred down in the first basement of my building. It was pretty fun. There were lots of hoity-toity, fancy-dressed people walking by, which was kind of strange...

I hit:
-Blurry ducking legover [both sides]
-Jacknife (only good...)
-reverse swirl > spinning osis [bsos]

My stepping ducking was doing GOOD, but then after a bit my good side switched sides and that was kind of frustrating, especially for that flip jacknife, which became the hardest move in the world... I feel close to ripped warrior back to back. I only ever do blurry ducking clipper though, 'cause I like it better. Anyway...when my shins are better...or when I play next, I will totally try that. That would be a milestone :D

Props Eric!! Those are some pretty sick moves.
The Beginner's Guide is a great idea. And if you end up selling them for that cheap that would help people who can't afford T.O.T.

And by the way, your last video got me hooked on Kamelot. Great band. :D

Yeah, Kamelot is pretty cool.
I've been listening more to Sonata Arctica lately too.
I have a work mix that is kind of softer, more romantic songs by metal bands (so it's actually work-appropriate), and there was an elderly woman complaining about prices and everything who started whistling along to Within Temptation -- it was cool :D

I just bought some gear for my shins: hot water bottle, insoles, and epsom salts. I'm excited!

For some footbag goodness, I hit a bunch of ducking mirages, like, 2 weeks ago or so. I hit 28 on my goodside and 15 on my bad. That was a highlight I never posted about. Posting highlights is important to me.

Howdy Hipster
I have been reading your blog a bit lately and In one of your posts you mention something about being vulnerable to footbag related injuries, and I have a question to ask you. Why do you think that you are vulnerable to footbag injuries? Sick shred by the way

Well, it's not that so much as two major injuries I sustained around 3 years ago (not sure how either happened, and not really sure what one is...) and shin splints are something I've had before, and I guess they've returned because I suddenly started doing higher impact moves again...

I like to sound dramatic...

What is your interest in injuries? Are you injured? (I kind of feel like I know the answer, but there are so many people on Modified these days that it's hard to keep track and remember who is who, especially with all of those internet names.)

Insoles turned out to be women's, and the wrong size and I became so distraught... so my awesome "sister-in-law" exchanged them for me while she was out. I trimmed them and fit them in my shoes, and I'm excited to try them for footbag. I used my waterbottle and it wasn't very hot, but I dunno. Marita says she will massage my shins while we watch a movie in bed later :D I think I will bottle it up again while I play some FFXII, now that I've done my drawings for today.

I also got some new flavour of Lays chips -- Chilli garlic... should be good.

I especially like it when I really heavy band can take their sound down to something soft, yet still retain the Metal aspect to it. I'll have to check out Sonata Arctica.

Ever listened to Nightiwsh?

Dude, Nightwish is my actual favourite band!

Sessioned with Mike today; shin splints were not so bad with the insoles! They were still sensative, but much much better. I don't think I hit anything new. I hit 20 rotations of ducking clipper > spinning clipper [repeat], which is about 80 moves, but I'm sure I've done more before, it was one of those silly drops where you just happen to get careless, you know?

I practiced osis a BIT (not nearly enough), and I did lots of consecutive spinning ducking clippers, trying to get a good flip record and trying to beat the world record on my good. I only got 8 good and about 5 flip, another of those "I can't believe I dropped"... like every time. Umm, also did some reverse swirls and I guess the highlight there was ducking clipper > rev swirl [repeat] X2 (drop on the last move, or something). It should be cool to get those down, and they're zero impact which is wicked on my shins, but I figure that once I get consistant at them they will start to hurt my knees...

Awesome man! What would you say your favorite song of theirs is? I was slightly disappointed when I found out that their lead singer was being replaced but we'll see how the new one turns out.

Props on those long repitions man. 8O If that doesn't help consistency then I don't know what will.

Nemo (orchestral version) is my second favourite song, period.
I don't know. It's hard to say; I love them all. But yeah, after Tarja got the boot I got a little sick of listening to ONLY Nightwish on repeat with no new albums, so I moved on to Epica for a while. The saddest part is that I will never see Nightwish in concert now :( Do you know if they have a new singer yet? I didn't really follow anything since the Tarja incident.

Beauty OF THE Beast (not to be confused with Beauty AND THE Beast) is probably one of my favourites.
Elven Path is sweet.

Man -- check out my website! Like, half the videos are to Nightwish. A totally epic one is http://www.hackrifice.com/shred/hackrifice040220.wmv , to End of All Hope (EEEEPPIIICCCCC)

Sweet. I've never heard the Orchestral version of Nemo, but that song kicks ass indeed.
Yeah, I loved her vocals. She's such a talented vocalist. I never found out what happened to her, mind filling me in? Heh. As far as I know though they are still looking. Though they may have found one and are recording some new stuff. Who knows... I'll let you know if I find anything out though.
One of my favorites would have to Ever Dream. Such a nice mix of heavy instrumentation and amazing vocals. The piano is great on it too.

Downloading now. ; )

Ever Dream kicks ass!

They seriously all do!

Here's a 30-second video in which I used that version of Nemo!

Wow, That first video was the shit man. The shred went so perfectly with the intesity of their music. I've never heard that song before.
Honestly though I haven't heard a lot of their music because I haven't downloaded them or bought the CD's, I really need to though.
The instrumental version sounds great though! Do you know where I can get the full version? That fall looked painful too. :x
Quick question though, why weren't you wearing your braces?

Umm, the orchestral version of Nemo is on the "Nemo" single album.
The second video I gave you the link for was a video from 2005. I didn't have knee braces at that point, though I was still fucked (since May 2004, I think).
