Dear Footbag Community,
We'd like to take this opportunity to announce the first official
guide for the Circle competition format in footbag freestyle. The
original draft was incredibly verbose, because we wanted to share
many ideas about this new format, but this revised version is
concise, covering only what is absolutely necessary in as few words
as possible. We changed some important rules and added new
information after receiving feedback from players, organizers, judges
and referees, so please carefully read the new document to be ready
for your next Circle tournament.
We have started a new group at footbag.org, called The Circle
Foundation, from where you can download the applicable files.

A total of 14 tournaments hosted Circle competitions within the first
6 months of its release, so we are very gracious that our project is
being so well-received, in all parts of the world no less. We would
also like to thank all those involved in supporting the
Circle thus far, and urge all organizers to make the Circle part of
future events.

I just read the pdf. Do you have a revision history lying around anywhere?
I read thet original doc a while ago and can't pinpoint exactly what has changed.
I was surprised to see pass-backs and freezes being "bad etiquette".
Also, I havn't really made the exact calculations but has anything been done to make the event shorter? I think that that was probably my biggest gripe with the format, according to the roadmap, having 30 players participate could realisticly take 4h (approx. if I recall correctly).
Anyway, big thanks to Ellis and yourself for this, I've had a lot of fun participating in Circle comps!

Hi Max, there is only 1 round/circle (instead of 3), so 30 players will now be around 1h45min. (organizers can also make circles of 5 players and/or advance 1 player/circle to make the event even shorter)
about ''freezes'', it's only to avoid someone doing a nice string then ''freeze'' a clipper, wait 10 sec to catch up his breath, then start another string. If you do a x-sole and freeze the bag for 1/2 sec then go into a reverse swirl, that's fine. Just make sure to ask the referee if it's ok whit him before the competition.
about pass-backs, it's to avoid people that will always start with a very hard move/link and know they will have a pass-back, then on their second try they go for much easier 30 contact string. It won't be fare for the other player that started with a easy run and drop after 10 moves, because that player will never have a second chance. It's also a Competition, so it's paradoxal to give a second chance to your opponent. We also wanted to have no "grey" zone, and there is no official rule about pass-backs (give the bag back after a drop on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th move?, give the bag back only after a drop on a easy move?). That way there is no more "do it if you want" in the Circle guide.
