Lon

I implore you to shut down your existing list, and move move your efforts in publishing these records on the footbag wiki. Here are my reasons:
  • 1) Although you started and maintained this list in its infancy, I think that more than one person should have access to edit and update the list.

    2) When you edit your list, all history of who held the record before that is essentially lost forever. If you use the wiki, a version history is kept for every change, so that we can look back and see the progression. This might not matter to you (or very many other people for that matter), but I submit that this is an issue that should be seriously considered.

    3) It keeps the records in a visible arena, not tucked away on some obscure site that otherwise has nothing to do with footbag.

    4) It keeps the records safe and backed up. If visionpcservices.com crashes at any point, the data is potentially gone. Why risk that at all? By maintaining the list on footbag.org, the data is backed up regularly, and is managed by one of the smartest IT people in the business.
I know that some of you have your opinions about footbag.org, and those of us who run it, and that you don't think that everything needs to be published there. Of course, you are all entitled to your opinions, and you're right that not everything needs to be published there. However, I think that this situation is different, and of all active footbag projects at the moment, I think that this is one that absolutely belongs on the footbag.org servers, safe and open for the world to see (and edit if they can). Please help to maintain the records list there, and stop publishing to visionpcservices.

Sincerely,

Allan

All right!

Updated. Thanks.

Allan, Thanks for pointing out those 4 points.

I agree that Lon's World Record List should be highly visible.
I agree that it would be nice to see who held the record previously.
I agree that Footbag.org is the ideal spot for the list.

VisionPCServices is Joseph Crain's. He is my close friend and roomate.
It is safe and secure. Please do not be worried about it crashing.

I want to keep editing access very limited, say 2-3 people. That way we will have the same acceptance standards.

1-Barefeet are okay.(heavily debated)

2-NO lying.

3-No "the" during a sequence.

4-No pauses for rest.

5-No records with an inflated ball of another sport. Footbags and Hackysacks only.

6-No verification necessary just honesty.

That's all I can think of right now.

Peace

Acceptance standards are fine, but there is no way that we can actually limit the wiki editing to 2-3 people; nor should we. That is not to say that we cannot maintain standards. First of all, not just _anyone_ can edit the list. You have to have a footbag.org account, and you have to be logged in.

Beyond this barrier, as I said, a record is kept of every change made to the page, as well as who made it. If someone does come in a post a bunch of BS, we can easily see that and easily revert the page back to it's post BS state. We can also then take steps to ensure that whoever made the change gets banned or warned or something.

The mechanism for monitoring the page (specifically) is here:

http://www.footbag.org/reference/-?titl ... on=history

As you can see, you can see every change made to the pages from my first post, through to the last. You can even compare versions.

If you're interested in maintaining quality control wiki-wide (as you should be ;) ), you can also monitor the "Recent Changes" page, here:

http://www.footbag.org/reference/-/Spec ... entchanges

This page monitors every change, made to every page in the reference area. It comes complete with a syndication feed for those of you savvy enough to use news readers.

The only caveat that I can see is that it does require those who wish to make changes to learn a little bit of "wiki markup". This, however, is not difficult; especially with the records list, all you really need to do is change names and numbers, and leave the other characters alone. If you want a new line for a new move, simply copy and paste an old line, and modify to suit.

Really, I don't see any trouble with things moving along exactly as they have been here with people posting new records to this thread, and then someone else collating them into a wiki change. Of course, people should realize that they have the capability of making these changes for themselves. I would think that this empowerment would be liberating.

251 same inside kicks (flipside too)

I did this 2 years ago, but didn't know it was a record.

Evidence (12 posts down): http://www.modified.in/footbag/viewtopi ... sc&start=0

Also you should edit the fearless record to 20 by Clavens.
