BEIJING: A Chinese thief has returned a mobile phone and thousands of yuan he stole from a woman after she sent him 21 touching text messages, Xinhua news agency reports.
Pan Aiying, a teacher in the eastern province of Shandong, had her bag containing her mobile phone, bank cards and 4,900 yuan ($800) snatched by a man riding a motorcycle as she cycled home on Friday, Xinhua said, citing the Qilu Evening News.
Pan first thought of calling the police but she decided to try to persuade the young man to return her bag.
She called her lost phone with her colleague's cell phone but was disconnected. Then she began sending text messages.
"I'm Pan Aiying, a teacher from Wutou Middle School. You must be going through a difficult time. If so, I will not blame you," wrote Pan in her first text message which did not get a response.
"Keep the 4,900 yuan if you really need it, but please return the other things to me. You are still young. To err is human. Correcting your mistakes is more important than anything," Pan wrote.
She gave up hope of seeing her possessions again after sending 21 text messages without a reply.
But on her way out on Sunday morning, she stumbled over a package that had been left in her courtyard only to discover it was her stolen bag. Nothing had been taken.
"Dear Pan: I'm sorry. I made a mistake. Please forgive me," a letter inside said.
"You are so tolerant even though I stole from you. I'll correct my ways and be an upright person."

Yeah right.
Well I bought The Curse of Lono last night; awesome book. Ralph Steadman's illustrations are hilarious and brilliant.
The other news is that I've started playing Australian Rules Football again. I've been to two training sessions so far, and my skills are pretty good considering I haven't played since 1999. It is a lot of fun and last training session was good. It's such a long time since I've had to put in that kind of an effort. My plan is to be a super running player. I think half back flank is probably my best position, although I think there's a good chance I'll be put on the wing instead. Anyway I'm essentially just going to play like I'm on the ball all the time, and try to kick as many goals as possible. This is the first year the team I'm playing for has had a football team and it's mainly made up of local farm boys, who are maybe not the most intelligent guys around, but I have a lot of respect for them anyway. They're building the club rooms on Saturdays. Unfortunately we're a very noticeably small team. We probably only have 4 or 5 players over 6 foot, and I'm actually probably above the average height, which is very worrying. Still country football is not renowned for its high level of skill, and I think we'll beat most teams on the ground and outrun them. That's if they don't just break our bones first

So had a top weekend and just wanted to brag about it.
First I went along to the last day of the Pura Cup final and watched my state (Tasmania, the smallest state in Australia) win the game (and become national cricket champions I guess you'd call it). First time we have ever won, and a guy I know was not only playing for Tasmania, but took 4 wickets and will be playing for Australia fairly soon (Ben Hilfenhaus).
Secondly later on that day I played in my indoor soccer grand final and we won 12-16. I kicked 4 goals
Then last night I watched (on tv) Australia demolish South Africa in the ICC world cup (cricket).
Today, with 4 hours sleep, I played my first game of Australian Rules Football since 1999 and playing from on the ball and full forward, kicked 9 goals out of 9 shots on goal. It was just an inter-club practice game, but they were picking the team based on the game, so it was a good time to kick 9 goals.
I think I've assured myself a spot playing on the ball, which is good, although I'd much rather play full forward and I feel that my constant requests to play that position in the past were vindicated. Our team is not very good though.
Also I'm probably going to take this year off footbag, and see how I feel about it next year.

Well done with the footy!
Funny I wouldn't have picked you for a full forward, you'd probably be the really annoying type like Philip Materia or Jeff Farmer
. Just joking, 9 goals is an outstanding effort, look forward to hearing more game reports.
A year off from footbag, that's a surprise. Anyway sounds like things are going well for you.

Yeah well we played our first real game today.
Final scores 160 to 10. We were the 10. I thought I played ok, took one big pack mark playing at full forward (too far out though, I had to run up to get a kick) but mainly played on the ball. Wow this team was huge. I haven't been this sore in years. Getting talked by people who are over a foot taller and twice as heavy as you is not cool. There was one guy with a big beard and tattoos and a face like the car Princess Diana was in, who was at least 6 foot 4 and the scariest footballer I've ever seen (I told him this at the end of the game and he laughed, which is good, because in hindsight he may well have dropped me
). There was one point where he had the ball and was running straight at me, that was scary. However I managed to smother the kick and get possession, so clearly I have more courage than brains. It was not a good sign when our biggest player was taken out of the game with broken ribs, about 10 minutes into the first quarter.
We did, however, win the fight, which is the main thing. Actually there wasn't a big fight, just one of our players punched one of their players, and the followed up by laying out their ruckman, who was enormous. After that I think the rest of their team were too scared to go near him, as am I. Skinny guys who are less than 6 foot tall and who take on and knock down guys who are 6'6" and all muscle are people you should not get too close to.
Despite the serious flogging (bound to happen considering the size difference in our teams), it was a fun day and I'm so glad to be playing footy again. I'm going to put in some hard work with this too I think.

Well this is my official new football blog
We played our second game today (at the bye yesterday) and managed to finish with the fantastic score line of 231 to 30. So we lost by 201 points. It was pretty disgraceful, the majority of our team just doesn't know how to play, and have no skills. I managed to get the votes for second best player on our team, my brother was third and our friend (Tom) who also plays was fourth (we're the three people who play who are not from around the local area, because my brother's family in law lives there). There are cash prizes for getting in the best and Kester, Tom and I are putting the money into a pool to spend at the end of the season. So far we have $100, with 2 games played and another 18 or so to go.
Apart from being one of the only players on our team to actually consistently beat my opponent, I also took the mark of the day, which was awesome (a mark is when somebody kicks you the ball and you hold on to it). It was a big high kick and timed my run perfectly and sat up on this guys back for ages, but I sort of flipped over him, so I came down horizontal to the ground and winded myself. Still taking marks on people's backs is awesome.
Hilariously our captain, who is a disgrace, complained to the coach about Kester and I kicking the ball to each other too much. It is far to say that Kester, Tom and I kick the ball to each other alot. In fact with all four goals that our team kicked, one of us kicked to the other, who kicked to the other, who kicked a goal. Rather than being because we only kick to each other, it's clearly because the three of us are capable of getting the ball, and also understand how to present, so that people kick us the ball.
I must say, I really hate playing for such a woeful team. There are maybe 6 reliable players, and the rest are all just scared of getting hurt or have no idea how to play. Hopefully we can improve to at least be a little competitive. It would be great to lose a game by less than 100 points.
I am still enjoying myself though, and in many ways I like the fact that you really feel like you've played sport when you finish. I think that feeling of physical pain, but also the sense of accomplishment that goes with it is definitely something I've been missing in the sport I've been playing for the last few years.
I was moved around a bit in the game, I played half forward flank, on the ball, wing and half back flank. I probably did best on half back flank, because that's where the ball went the most.
Oh yeah, and in my opinion, a 90kg 25 year old shirt fronting a 50kg 15 year old, even if it was in play and within the rules, is a disgrace.

"So, I was watching this 'Big Brother' show, and frankly, it just isn't wacky enough for me. These people are just too ordinary. They drink, they eat, they laugh, they love. Where are the maniacs? The people you really, really would not want to be locked in a house with? The interesting characters? If I were making 'Big Brother' (which is, admittedly, a ridiculously unlikely scenario), these are the 14 types of people I'd want in the house.
1. A fat guy who constantly wears a mustard stained shirt, and snores really, really loudly. He'd be single, and would occasionally cry over missing his bootleg anime collection. He would confess on the 10th night that hes been really badly missing his mother since she kicked him out of her house after his 42nd birthday.
2. A weird guy who sits in the corner all day and mutters to himself. The only thing he would take into the house would be a yo-yo. He wouldn't be very good with it, but bless him if he doesn't touch us all in the seventh week by pulling off a successful 'round the world', before laughing hysterically.
3. A guy who I'd hire to act like a complete freak in the house. He'd walk around in a bathrobe all day, screaming out "I AM ABOVE THE LAW!" and "I AM THE LIZARD QUEEN!" on random occasions, lie in bed at night laughing manically, and so on in that general fashion.
4. A guy who is like a cross between Randall McMurphy from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Hannibal Lector, but without Randall's noble qualities. The kind of guy who goes around telling everyone their faults and cutting into them with FIERCE WORDS. Hopefully, he'd bring everyone to the point of tears within the first day.
5. The Biggest Nerd Ever. A guy incapable of talking to girls, constantly wants to play chess, THE ENTIRE STEROTYPICAL PACKAGE. The first guy wouldn't get on with him, because he would just be too nerdy. Would need ear medicine every hour, on the hour.
6. Someone who was funny. Like, actually funny. I comedian. A *good* comedian. One who you'd pay to see, except you wouldn't have to, because it's on free to air television.
7. A guy that doesn't speak english. Spanish would be particularly good, especially if he went outside at night and screamed "POR QUE?" to the stars.
8. A hardcore goth girl. Incredibly hardcore. She'd be allowed cigarettes and would write poetry with jars of animal blood.
9. The weird girl from 'The Breakfast Club'.
10. A really old woman. Like, 78 years old. When she was younger, the set of Big Brother was all cornfields, as far as she could see, and Loretta Turnwell and her used to catch the 708 to Linsburg to trade in bottle caps for a half pound of fairy floss, which they would take back and share with her aunt Eileen, who was hard of hearing, God bless her. This story would be repeated at least twice daily.
11. An incredibly socially awkward girl with a moustache. Preferably handlebar.
12. A dog. I mean, literally, a dog. One of the contestants SHOULDN'T EVEN BE HUMAN. Only, they'd give it a voice over in pre-production, and it would have a Scooby-esque voice.
13. A women who really, really hates men. All men. Hates them to bits. And is ugly. Dog ugly. The kind of woman who gives feminism a terrible, terrible name.
14. A typical blonde, foolish, "GOD AM I PRETTY" 19 year old girl, as featured in every single series. WATCH AS SHE FLOUNDERS BADLY. She'd be all "I totally like hot guyz" and the goth would be all "**** you, bitch. Things can't just be defined like that, you little whore".
The show would either rate poorly, well, or about average. Because, you know, it's a show, they generally fall into those three catergories, rating wise."

So football today. We played a lot better than the last two games and managed to only lose by about 50 points. I think the scores were 11 goals 9; 75 to about 18 goals 18; 126.
Kester and I both got in the best again, and I managed to kick a goal as well, so that was good. I'm pretty sore now though. Actually I worked so hard in the last quarter, I thought I was going to throw up again. At one stage I ran to the bench and was like "I'm really struggling, take me off" and they just told me to keep going. I had so much of the ball, easily 30 possessions. It helped by the fact that I had a string of shit players playing on me. I had one guy for a quarter, who didn't even come close to touching the ball, then another guy, who was a lot better, but still not as fit as me, and wasn't very good at manning up, and then he changed for another guy, who manned up on me all the time, even when I was in defence and they had the ball and were looking for somebody to kick to, but unfortunately he could barely run, so I killed him, and then they put the last guy back on me. In total, my opponents had 4 kicks between the three of them while playing on me, so I certainly made a strong contribution.
We now have $150 in our pool of prize money for the end of the year, so that's good.

So not the best game yesterday. I was knocked out in the first quarter, and spent the rest of the game, and indeed the day, sitting around doing nothing. It was pretty crazy, I remember getting the ball and thinking I had heaps of space, then somebody yelled kick it and next thing I know I'm on the ground and all the people are standing around asking if I'm ok. We lost by about 100 points.
Did stay up and watch the cricket though, which was exciting (Australia won their 3rd straight world cup) although it was a shame about the weather. Good work to Gilly for finally scoring some runs. My brother's debating club has bought a new projector for about $5,000 so we watched the game on that, and now I'm writing this post on a 3m screen
Still feel a bit groggy and have spent the day watching the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies.

wooh! after seeing the new TMNT i went and downloaded the old ones (well, 1 and 2 so far, i remember the third one being shit? is that where they go to japan?) Those movies rock, i remember them as being so lifelike and cool when i was little... but now they have more novelty value.
Good times.

yeh cos i hadnt seen the new one before, so i didnt know what it would be like. Although the fact it was animated had me skeptical. It was nothing like the old ones after all. The turtles had kinda goofy proportions i thought...
