lavers vs. gunits

i've started my footbag career in skate shoes, converse, sandals, and now airwalks, preparing to move to a real shed shoe. which at the moment i'm leaning toward the gunits, mainly for the support cuz i'm a bigger guy, and i've had issues with my ankles in the past. *shoulda mentioned that earlier maybe* so probably this friday i'm ordering a pair of units probably.

Gs will give you that bigger guy with bad ankles support you need, but they're not going to be around forever, and I'm finding that, although they play great and they have a great weight, they have a VERY weak toe material once they're modded. I've used mine for 3 sessions or so, and the toe is already starting to come apart. very unfortunate. It's no fault of the shoe, because it wasn't designed to have so much material taken off. Rather, it's not a design flaw, more of an implicit flaw to what we're doing to the shoe.

now, if you get the camouflage g-units, those have a mesh outside, which, I believe, is a good deal stronger than the stuff that's left after modding the leathers.

If you're a big guy who wants shoes that will last a long time, you could also get the new balance CT 300 or 520, which you can look up in other threads on this forum. The material on the outside of those is very strong, and some players have gotten very good using that shoe.

i am sooooooo confused lol... one moment i'm hearing something great about the gunits, then i hear something not so good about them... do the greats outway the not so goods? i know i'm probably just gonna get conflicting opinions as always when asking about shoes, so i'm just gonna have to do some thinking about it, i will let you all know what i decide for those of you who care. and thank you all for the help, i appreciate it.

Here, simple option. Go to a shoe store. Try both on.

Whichever you like more, buy them.

All the shoes out there have advantages and disadvantages, why are confused? No one said G-Units are perfect, they are far from perfection infact.

Matt mentioned a VERY weak toe material and he is right. There are some issues with units, but, really, falling apart material can be fixed in no time.

I played for 2 and a half years in Lavers and 5 months ago switched to G-units. They are a great footbag shoe, so you can't go wrong with them. You would only want to get G-units if you have bad ankle crank or need more support (help with shin splints).

Lavers
--------
Pros: Light, durable, good toe box, forms to feet
Cons: Lack of support, limited color selection, not as easy to mod (mesh), slightly slippery (stalling surfaces & traction)

G-Units
---------
Pros: Great support, better inside surface, easy to mod, variety of colors, durable, great traction
Cons: Heavier, toe box not good for kicks, too much padding

I still play with both my shoes, but I have an overuse problem in my ankle and if I wear Lavers too long it re-aggravates it.

I personally like Lavers for their light weight which is a HUGE pro. I like G-Units because they do everything Lavers do poorly, but they are on the heavy side. My Units haven't had a weak toe box problem and my Units look better after 5 months than any of my Lavers ever did.

I've never found my lavers to be hard to mod. Taking a blowdrier to heat them up and melt the glue, then just run an exacto-knife thru'm and the mesh comes right off. However, i always take out the inside layer. I'll have to buy a cheap pair from ebay and see how well using the inside layer does.

lol ok, confused was the wrong word choice lol. but i am settled on the gunits, i can get two pairs of gunits for $70 + shipping and handling, right now on champssports.com , so if something happens i've got a backup pair, not only that, they seem to be the right shoe for me.

They are not hard to mod...just "not as easy" as G-Units because you take the inside canvas out which is more of a pain to me.

The only part of the canvas i'v had a problems taking out was on the toe, but, luckily with me, I just gave it a good tug and it finally came out.

I think lavers are easier to mod, but don't let something like difficulty to mod throw you away from the right track. Fuck, I love footbag to death, modding shoes is fun (except for climas lol)!

There's a bunch of topics on shoe modding, so you won't have any difficulties, but if you're are still struggling, there are always people to help!

How's choosing a footbag going for ya?

lol, i dont even want to think about that until i've got atleast 40 bucks in my wallet so i can choose the best no matter the price. however i should be getting the rasta mr. sandbag from my teacher *she ordered it for me* in a week or so.

ps. i think when my mr. dies or i want to move on to a better bag i might go ahead and get the penske pro model sandbag.
