Gunit (leather) Modification Tutorial + my mod secret

I'm going to show y'all how I mod them... step by step

What you'll need:
sharp scissors... I use the fiskars that I use for stitching
butter knife

There are 4 rows of holes on the clipper side of your shoe. Some people mod the entire area, but I just cut out the area from the last row of dots to your toe...

There are a couple layers of fabric on your shoe. What you want to do is keep the inside mesh, and take everything out on top of that (leather, foam, etc.) It's gluey so you'll need to take your butter knife and separate the foam and the white mesh...

Then you cut along the edges...

...until you can take that entire side off



Next, you'll be wanting to clip out the toe box...
What you do is pull on the box until you can see the thread holding it together, cut that but dont cut the white mesh off the shoe... just look at the pictures and you'll see...


Then you cut along the line where the toe meets the tounge. Again, make sure you're only cutting leather and foam... don't cut the white mesh!

Take your butter knife and seperate the leather from the white mesh

Then cut around the toe, until the leather is cut off



If you want a hold for where your laces can hold the tounge up, then just cut along the dots on the toe. I make mine 4 dots long and three dots wide (centered)...





Now, here's my modding secret: How to color the white mesh without using ugly sharpies!
You'll need:
Fabric squirty paint (any color you choose)
plastic cup of water
cheap paint brush

Squirt about half of the little fabric paint bottle into the cup... until you get the color you want.

*note: you can get this paint anywhere, but keep in mind that it's going to be watered down and lighter than the bottle. the reason we water it down is so then your mesh isn't plasticy or hard when it dries. it's better to wash it down too much, cause if you put too much paint on there you can't take the paint out. this paint will stay on your shoes through dozens of machine washes- i did this on my pink goonits*

Just paint it right on



Now, all you do is let them dry and put on the laces!!!




I named them "Mario"

Personally I think you need to remove more material towards the heel in the clipper area (and maybe broka as well).

Good mod job.

For the instep mod, I cut to the point where the inner mesh touches the fabric that goes around the heel of the shoe on the inside. I cut along the leather at that very point, so you'll need a very observant eye to cut that way. You can most definitely cut them to the point where the exposed stitches are at (therefore having less leather to restrict your ankle crank), but restricting them by the holes on the leather is kind of silly. And shoe sizes vary, so the whole process is somewhat moot.

im not going to brocka... my ankles are small enough for me to have a crazy crank without restriction.

maybe ill make the clipper area bigger, or maybe not. i have my other goonits modded this way (same as pics above) and i love them.

Are those the dodgers G-Unit?

I ordered a pair, and I would be disapointed with the white inside mesh, guess I will paint them as well, the white doesn't look too good.

yes they are dodgers...

i would suggest using blue paint if you decide to paint the white mesh... cause my red is pink. i like the pink, but i doubt you would.

nice basic tut. i like to add, for a more stable toe, leave most of the side steams and a little leather on the side so you dont remove all of the toe leather.

the toe is very stable...

...keep in mind that smaller sized shoes have smaller sized toe boxes. my shoes are size 6.5 and brinards are 9.5 but my toe box is almost half the size of his.

keep in mind not everybody has that small size. i modded my first pair like this and the last with some leather left. i found it much more fixed. just a suggestion, do it like you want.
