What video editing software do you use?

I like Sony Vegas 6.0d. It's what I have used for about a year now. I started out with Adobe Premiere, but after I used Vegas I never turned back.

What do you use?

thanks to james i use sony vegas 6.0d as well

i started out with adobe, but soon dropped it because i thought vegas functioned better for my tastes.

Kino (it's a linux program).

Won't run properly on my computer, but I can edit single clips sometimes.

It's interesting because I wanted to see what program most footbag video editors used. It guess it could be useful to get someone interested in changing from Windows Movie Maker or another inferior program.

And I would change the poll, but only a mod/admin can edit polls.

Final cut is the best, but I have pc so I use the newest premiere- pro 2
hmm Premiere pro 7 must be like from year 2020

Never heard about Sony Vegas (it might be good...really no idea) but the name is so funny

Final Cut Pro seems to be the choice of a lot of editors. I've only had limited experience with it. I think maybe 3-4 hours. Added with my lack of mac experience, it wasn't very pleasurable.

Final cut is the bomb. Aparently avid is better though.

Premiere 7 is also known as premiere pro 1.5. I should upgrade to version 2

It's VERY interesting/useful to me because I don't feel like spending 1000 bucks trying every type of editing software out there, and it's nice to know what software great film editors like you and James use. I know there are trials for many if not all of them, but even that can be a pain weeding through them all if you're not even sure where to start.

It's really bad. But, it was my first editing program and I got it at Target for like 80 bucks or somethin. Anyway, I'll probably check out some reviews of the other programs in this thread. Thanks for posting this topic James.

I've never tried pinnacle studio.

I think all in all it's just style preference. With the right knowledge, you can do the same effects in almost any program. Also Chris, you don't have to buy the program to use it, that's what demos are for

If you try Vegas and you need some pointers I'm always down to help out. Same with anyone.

I used Pinnacle Studio for awhile, but got frustrated with it. So, I switched to Adobe Premiere Elements, which is much better.

I've been thinking about trying out Adobe Premiere again just for experience sake. I just hated the how text worked (I think it was 6.0) It was overly complicated within premiere and I didn't have photoshop. Are the newer versions the same?

I have not got around to making a footbag vid in a while but here is what I use generally for flashy edits to music:

Ableton Live 6: provides excellent interface with warp capabilities but does not render video (as it is an audio app)

I then use Snapz Pro to rip this off of my computer's screen.

This can be done with the demo of live, but you can't save the template. Snapz is free for the first few days. It is a truly awesome app, and worth the money!

It is difficult to describe in words. I think I will grab some Yacob footage and make an example. I can't wait to get my game back up just a bit. Till then I aint got too much I want to edit.

So far all I have now is windows movie maker. I have a 5 second clip I want to post (for learning purposes mostly) but I can't upload it anywhere because it's a .WSWMM file.

Is it possible to convert this into another uploadable movie file such as .mov or .mpeg or something? I read something about exporting it but I don't know how to do it.

Travis,

That .WSWMM file is actually just a save file for WMM itself. As in, it doesn't actually contain any video on it, it contains how to arrange it from your computer onto the time line inside the program. What you need to do to get a video from WMM is select the "Save Movie Option" from the file menu. This will actually render, or create, the video from the time line.

I use Adobe Premiere, which is pretty user-friendly. That said, I'm a noob who still is figuring things out, but it lets you do the basic stuff pretty easily.
