Which of the following two sentences use the correct grammar.

1. Thank you for giving David and I the opportunity to inspect your property.

2. Thank you for giving David and me the opportunity to inspect your property.

All opinions are welcome.

Which sounds better to you?

Option two is grammatically correct

You did not correctly utilize the grammar laws of the English language in your question (if that is indeed what it is) and as a result I was unable to interpret whatever you were trying to communicate to me and cannot provide any further input to the discussion (if that is indeed what this is).

Option two or say "...giving us the..."

I think option 1, or "us". or, instead of "I", or "me", what about "myself"? That sounds right to me.

It's option 2.

A good rule of thumb when you're in doubt over wether to say "I" or "me" when it's accompanied by a "you" ore "David" or whoever else is to just say that sentence without the other party. So your sentences become:

1. Thank you for giving I the opportunity to inspect your property.

2. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to inspect your property.

Which do you think is good?

Cheers ;)

I learned in grade school that if you were to use deduction and drop out the "david and" and say the sentence. then you would get the answer.

thank you for giving I the opportunity

thank you for giving me the opportunity

only the second sentence makes sense.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to inspect your property.

(perhaps mention David , before or after that sentence)

There is often a 3rd "safe" way to express the same basic point.

Surprisingly, i would definitely choose option one, 'David and I'.
I've been pulled up on the 'me' early in high school and told that it wasnt correct enough, but not everything they tell you in high school is actually correct...
David and me, in my opinion, sounds rough.

I know it's option 2, but this has always been a grammar rule that I have hated, and is probably one of the only ones that I go against in my own speaking. It reads and sounds contradictory all of the other English grammar rules.

Try this one
yeat again, which one is gramatically correct:

1. I lay the book on the desk

2. I lie the book on the desk

1. I lay on the couch

2. I lie on the couch

It depends which tense in which you are speaking. You could say 'i lay the book on the desk, then went and got a drink,' if you were speaking in the past tense, or if it was the narrative voice in a story where things were happening as they were being said.

You could say 'i lie on the couch' as in 'i lie on the couch all the time', as if it were a fact you were telling someone. But if it were past tense, or narrative, you would say 'i lay on the couch.'

...IMO

dont use that face when you dont have the right.

fortunatly for you i'm willing to explain what happened here.

Jose Rose did indeed point out the correct answer. what Kevin was ACTUALLY saying is that Max was the first person to mention that helpful rule of thumb regarding removing the second noun from the sentence in order to see more clearly which is the correct personal pronoun to utilize in this example. Jose did NOT say the exact same thing already, he said the second option was correct (and again, it was and still is) but max was the first person in the topic to make reference to a handy rule of thumb that is indeed one of the better ways i know of for accurately choosing pronouns.

Jose used the method, he didn't need to mention it. He simply provided an example instead. Look at his quote genius.

Fortunately for you, I'm willing to explain what happened here.
