Couple tips I wanna write down...
Blender: If you start spinning before you clear the dex (entirely, with spotting) your leg will be pulled by your body into the bag and it will be bitchsmacked away. You have been warned.
Spinning: My word, I just discovered this, and it should have been so obvious from the getgo. For all you people having trouble with your spins because you don't 'finish' the spin, all you have to do is make sure the bag is in front of your body before you start the move. Center your shoulders. I didn't test with spinning whirls but with everything else it was like discovering the wheel (even though I had good spins already).
I played last night with Seb and Ianik, and it was a damn good session. I'm bad with highlights, suffice to say we tore it up. If I had a dollar for every five that was hit, well gosh I'd have quite a bit of money then wouldn't I?
After the session I went directly to work, got back this morning and had another session by myself in my hallway. And now I'm having a well deserved beer. I pretty much couldn't stop thinking about footbag all night at work, I had to get some shred in. I'm ready to 'give my life to it' so to speak. Just hope my legs are up to the task. After I sleep I'll try another lil' sesh before work.
There are still some standard fives I need to hit like whirr and ripstein, but I'm gettin' there. The new shoes feel incredible, they're smaller, tighter, lighter, cooler and just make me feel comfortable with everything. I finally took the leather off the toe and inside. Toe walls never affected me. I like using as few mods as possible.

I can't actually play footbag. I'm incapable. I can pretend pretty good. I mean the normal person from the street would be like 'wow, you must have wasted a lot of time to be able to be so useless'

I couldn't hit anything, literally. I have six years under my belt and I can't play footbag. I don't know, I must be in a funk or something.
Eventually I threw my shoes very far. I was trying to hit ripwalks, go figure.
Then barefoot I hit all the pixies I wanted. I don't get it.
I think my muscle memory is daft. It doesn't learn. I can't keep anything. It's like 'ok, this is what I have to do, to hit this concept', and for a while it's all gravy, then it evaporates.
Do you think it matters how much I practice?? Not at all. Makes no difference. I'm just too daft.
I watched BOTS for the first time tonight. It was kind of obnoxious. I mean, I love Ville, Tuukka, Felix, Juho, Janne. Some of the shit that was hit in that vid was sick. Mostly from Juho. But all the dramatics and waiting to see some actual footage got me buggin'. Whatever that means.
Footbag is not meant to be made into a plot. Hit your shit and get your props.

Ianik is sick. I remember him hitting pdx torque>motion rpt. That's just ONE of the combos he can dish like a satallite. He is fresher than most shredders out there, and I'm picky as hell. He shits swivels.
Oh yeah, get 'oh no' by Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch and Nate Dogg. Best song to shred to. I want to be featured in a video to that song. Too bad I can't shred. I've just listened to it 4 times in a row.
I'm not feeling sorry for myself, that's just how I feel. I've lost all confidence in my game. I had it for a bit, but now it's gone.
Also, I want to give props to Mathieu for the sesh we had today. You were shreddin' tight. Keep it up mofo.
Gonna continue the struggle tomorrow.

Hello my brothers.
I'm heading out to a pub soon to see some peeps I haven't seen in a while. It's gonna be fun.
I had my session early tonight, solo. I have no highlights of course, because I wasn't trying to make highlights, just trying to get better in an overall sense. That's my goal really. I mean if I wanted to I could have a session and hit a bunch of crazy tricks, post em, and be like ya that's the shit dawg. But that's not gonna help my game. So i've been drilling my flip pixies, steps, spins. Working on links and shuffle and timing.
Footbag is not easy.
I'm not even touching new sets right now, but I will eventually dedicate sessions to blazing, hopping, nuclear etc.
For the record, I think atomic blender is harder and waaaay cooler than flailing blender. I hit the former first try sometime last week. Felt good.
I'm looking forward to grass, can't wait to see all you crazy freestylers, play with you, party with you. Ahh this sport is so amazing.
I am grateful for it.

Hello again. Some updates will ensue.
Last week I mildly sprained my neck during a session, or at work, not sure which. Didn't think it was serious. But during my next session while trying a decently exerting move, I yanked it further and it really hurt. So I'm in a non-shredding state till I feel my neck is 100%. Can't risk it.
Also, I don't go to tournaments when I can't shred. In other words, I hope to hell this heals before GRASS. I'm thinking it's not too serious because it feels better already, but I need to be sure before I start playing again.
You pretty much need your whole body to play footbag. If any part is injured you can forget it.
If it doesn't heal I may decide to go to GRASS anyway, I could always judge. I'd just like to see all my footbag peeps (and party HARD), plus people that I haven't met before (that's you Ken).
I have a portable sound emitter thingy that attaches to my Ipod so if we both show, you may just be able to shred to that list
We're pretty last minute here, so I'll let ya'll know when the time is right. As of now I'm still planning on going.

Soooooooooo, yeah my neck feels better, didn't take long. I've only had once sesh since it happened, during my break on nightshift. I took it easy and I was really appreciative of every move.
Like honestly, how many of you really really really appreciate every single osis you hit??
I fucking do. I feel so fucking incredible when I hit one. Same goes for every move actually. But especially osis.
It's not like a bail for me, but not because it's hard (because it isn't) but because it's so damn sexy I wanna cream my jeans (shorts in this case) when I hit it.
AND ESPECIALLY when I zoom out of it, which I do 70% of the time. Fuck I think I'm the shit when I play, even though my runs are short and there's nothing big in them. I don't care, it looks good.
The fucking sun came out this morning and I was there, leather jacket, beer and cig in hand. I felt like a superstar. I'm going to PDA, the most classicest of shred spots to have a sesh at noon. Gonna have to get those beers outta my system, still haven't slept from my shift, but it's gonna be HOT!
BUT i have to be careful not to hurt my neck, because I really want to be able to play at GRASS, I'm soooo looking forward to it. It's gonna be my first tourney since TOFU 05....OH FREAKIN' 5!!!

Wow, a lot has happened since I last posted here. Basically my life changed at GRASS. It was such an eye opener for me. I played like crap for the first half (pretty much whenever someone was looking) and got my groove on near the end. But that doesn't matter, because I felt a measure of control that I've never felt before, and now that I know it, I can reach for it during any session.
It helps to have a good bag too
And don't even get me started on the juggling. I just just started and I have no aspirations to be like great at it or anything, but it's so easy to pick up and look good doing. The possibilities are endless. It's so strange to see people struggle with 3 ball cascade because it's really not hard once you get used to the motions. I'm trying to get everyone I know to do it.
But I really love the rings, thing is I don't get many chances to practice because of low ceilings or wind. And goddamn it was windy today, which reminds me I had a sesh, can't neglect the footbag. Again I was just feeling it more than I normally do.
Even just hitting barfly>pdx whirl>pdx whirl>barfly feels great. Oh yeah and my blurry drifter is hot, ask me about it next time you see me

a bunch of patterns, though some I'm missing because I need to see them live

4 balls:

Yeah, I browsed through a bunch of the non-footbag related topics and holy cow it's pathetic. I can't even begin to understand the insecurity, immaturity and just plain idiocy of some of the people that are posting in there.
Really, I just don't understand. It's gotten bad the last few weeks. I'm tired of reading all that bullshit. Of course then I shouldn't bother going in there but I shouldn't have to worry about that in this forum, I should be able to go hear about what footbaggers think about other things besides footbag. I guess that's what the blogs are for.
I was tempted to rant them out but it's not worth it. Let them have their cesspool.
Basically I only check Journies to Tournies and the Footblogs on a regular basis. General footbag get's obnoxious and pointless at times, Shred Symposium is a gizz fest, I rarely post in there.
At least i've never met a footbagger I didn't like. I hope never to break that streak. I think the part I love most about this sport is the tournaments, playing and chilling with people you see a few times a year but have a hella good time with. I like to think I have friends (even the ones I haven't met yet) all over the world and it's a great feeling. I know for a fact that any footbagger is welcome in my home.
It's a special community we are a part of.
I'm so psyched for the Montreal Jam and then...Worlds! On top of that things are finally clicking with my game.
ohh check this, I hit pdx torque bsos the other night (solo sesh at PDA). Pdx torque is one of those standard pro moves, but not one of the easy ones. It's sexy. I must remember to really commit to the spinning part of the move, that's the key to nailing them.
Also had a half hour sesh during my shift last night. Went well, though it's not ideal to shred inbetween 8 hours of manual labour.
For some strange, uncanny reason, I can LINK now. I'm just as shocked as you are.
In the last three sessions almost every run was between 10-20 contacts. I've NEVER been consistant like that. And we're talking genuine here.
Anyway, feel great about everything. I've chosen my first routine song, the second one doesn't matter too much because my only goal would be to get past the first round. I already have some of the choreography worked out. Making a routine is NOT easy. Nailing one in competition even moreso. I still have 3 months to work through it and practice, so hopefully it will be polished for Worlds.
Gotta get back to sleep so I can be ready for a sesh tonight (at PDA again). I have no problem playing on my own, but it is nice to have 1 or 2 others to play with.
I can't get Nick to shred with me, he's being difficult. I miss him

Whirr bs
At work, during my break. I went in that night thinking 'i'm going to hit whirr bs tonight'. I've only tried it a handful of times and took about 15 minutes to nail them both. Felt so damn good. Now I just have to get them consistant.
And now it's time for ripsteins!

Thanks for the props guys! It doesn't go unappreciated. We will meet at worlds for sure Ken, unless for some strange reason, we're both there and like never cross paths...woah! My only goal is to finally have you as a friend on facebook
Ripstein has got to be one of the hardest moves I've ever tried to learn, and I haven't even started trying yet! I'm afraid to. I'm not too big a fan of swirling sets (besides not being able to do them that is) so I'm basically going to just try to land them on dex speed and timing. I'm sure I can get them in a few sessions. And they definitely are bomb, and of course, a standard for any pro these days. And I do so want to be one of those
And now for my one highlight...
Flurry
Almost bs, touched and overshot the flip. Sorry for being dramatic about these moves guys, but it just feels so great, I'm basically just picking a standard pro move that I haven't hit, trying it on my break at work for 15 minutes and hitting it.
I end up doing this because I get so lazy inbetween waking up and going to work that I neglect sessions, but at least I'm keeping the ball rolling, I feel these are definitive times for my game.
Oh and there is some bad news, my beautiful, best bag I ever played with, Clavens bag is no more. On one of my attempts at flurry it got smacked away and I heard the distinct sound of many little pellets hitting the ground...in my head I'm like 'that can't be the bag', I look around for some other source of this ominous sound...alas...it was the bag. It was cool to see what the filler actually looked like though, I'm such a newb.
ANYway this is upsetting because I won't be able to play with a bag of that quality for awhile now, basically until I order one from Dave or Nathan, or wait until Worlds for my Aidan bag! Hmmm maybe I can get it sooner...maybe I'll order all three on my next paycheck!! Then I'll never run out.
Makes me wonder, is amaretta a weaker material? I've never had a footfighter panel rip before, they just get lighter and crappier as they age. I'm spoiled now and footfighters are inferior.
Also, I was washing my Clavens bag every 1-2 sessions (I couldn't stand seeing it so dirty).
I may not have experience making footbags, but I damn well know a good bag when I hold it in my hand, and thus far the three stitchers mentioned above make the best bags. Some of Matt's bags were pretty good too (which basically means better than a footfighter), I wouldn't mind having one of them right now!
I hate to be hatin' on the footfighters, I have been satisfied with them for a long time, but I'm afraid the bar has been raised. Also I don't find them heavy enough. A good bag must have a good weight, and small too. This is a recent preference/discovery based on my Clavens bag, but I want every bag I play with to be that small now. It's the perfect size. No bigger than a golf ball.
I'd also like to try out Tom and Peng's stuff. Will have to give them the 'feel' test.
Oh and one more thing about a good bag...a good bag requires no break-in period.
K, 'nuff said about bags.
One more last little note: Whirr and Flurry, not hard moves at all. I find alot of these 'mid-time' moves to be rather easy once you get the hang of them. FTR I completely neglected these hybrid moves in my early years because I was so strict about the importance/difference between downtime and uptime, but I have since broadened my horizons. It's OK to use uptime and not be a set, but only on certain moves of course
I just realized I have a ton more to say about freestyle footbag, but I think I want to organize my thoughts a little more before I attempt to lay them out....
I really hope I muster the energy to have a good 2 hour sesh tonight.
