max asked me to judge. this is what I thought.

sick 1

rory d - toe stepping "wauxpin" - good execution, both dexes there. downtime component is not wauxpin. it is butterfly rake. rank - 8

gray c - ducking ps egg - decent form. good duck, set, and attack. looked a little surprised to get the catch. second dex was a little rakey. rank - 2

toby s - pixie dod - good set, good form, 3rd dex was a little the. set was a bit too high, maybe. rank - 13

zac m - pixie flux - very good set, dex was right at the ankle, almost xbody. tolerable on this hard-ish move, I guess. rank - 6

john f - pixie dyno - good style, good execution. extremely easy move. no extra points in my mind for barefoot. rank - 7

jorden m - surging flux - perfect surge, huge flux, solid catch. fucking surgical. rank - 1

matt m - motion sickness - good spin, motion was a bit pulled through, hand catch was bad. rank - 10

cody c - ds clipper - not bad. set looked pulled, but it was no worse than 90% of the dsc's I see. rank - 11

pete b - whirlygig - pete's camera is pretty the. however, judging from his form, and how well I know his style, I'd say that this trick was clean. whirlygig; kinda blah, not that hard if you can do ps whirl. rank - 4

kyle m - blurry dada curve - good step, bad dada. the bag is caught before the 3rd dex and thrown under the butterfly leg. rank - 14

jeremy m - spin pdx egg - good spin, dexes were thin, final delay and hand catch were pretty wild. rank - 12

michael p - fog - very subtle and well executed. - rank - 5

brian d - zoid egg - good small set, deeper eggbeater than some of the others in this competition. rank - 9

nic b - fd whirl - textbook cleanliness. VERY well executed. rank - 3

sick 3

nic b - glaucoma > fd butter > spin whirl - all clean, good use of both fairies, nice spin out of ducking butter, good whirl. shows good use of toe moves and clipper proficiency. rank - 3

matt g - phoenix > spinning osis > motion - all good form, cleaner motion than in sick 1, very comfortable hand catch. easy links. rank - 4

toby s - phoenix > pdx whirl > ddd - good form, very easy links. rank - 5

brian d - fairy butter > blizzard > zoid osis - decent form on the first two (easy) tricks, long unneccessary pause before a very, VERY easy move. rank - 7

julien r - fairy osis > torque > dlo - only one foot used for delays, thin fairy set, wild form, easy tricks. good effort. rank - 8

jeremy m - matador > ripwalk > pdx egg - good form, looked easy for him, a little silly on the reaction. better eggbeater than in his sick 1. rank - 6

jorden m - alpine blurry whirl > beta bed > ducking dolomite - fucking surgical, once again. my first reaction was to call this the winner, until... rank - 2

kevin r - frontside predator > sailing ss egg > alpine panda - groundbreaking! it's a toe beast!! the first two moves are definitely clean, hard to tell about the 3rd dex on alpine pandamonium, but I've seen this clip before and talked to kevin about it, I doubt he totally whiffed the dex. rank - 1

Just a quick note: Matt Cross is one of several judges for this comp. I agregate the scores of all judges in order to give the final ranking. So the ranking above is not the final open ranking.

I have asked judges to keep the following in mind when judging:

- trick diffuculty
- link difficulty
- style / form
- creativity / uniqueness (both of links and tricks)
- cleanliness

You totally right , this guy is a fool! :D  Lol , i don't know what's happened to me , maybe because i've tried hardly like one hour to hit it cleanly. Sorry guys , next time i won't do the same.

haha nah i loved your reaction. its pretty much what the online comps are all about for me.

matt- thanks for the benefit of the doubt, my camera, as you say, is like a nemesis with one dex.

i was very impressed with the ducking ps egg!!

i had to watch surging flux like 5 times before it seemed real to me.

that toe beast...im literally shaking my head thinking about it and i watched it like 6 hours ago. not only was it of course fucking absolutely ridiculously preposterously huge, it looked so damn ill to boot. huge huge props kevin.

It's finally here! Awesome.

Mad props to Kevin for slaying the beast using only his toes 8) 8) :P

My thoughts on Novice entries. I HATE ranking people because it's so psubjective. Personally I'm a fan of cleanly executed tricks over ones where the person overextended themselves to hit something that's beyond their normal ability. I also think bothsidedness is important for sick 3s. Everyone hit fairly big stuff, novice was defintiely more competitive than it has been in the past. Please no one be offended, here's what I thought.

Novice Sick 1:
Alan: Toe-ducking Whirl: I think you should have submitted a different move like one of your dynos. The duck wasn't clean (def too high) and the whirl was sketchy/thin. If you want to learn ducking, learn it from clipper first. Nice attempt, but I think you should have submitted something else. rank #6

Me: PDX DLO: Hey, I thought it was well executed, but maybe the set was a little high. Thoughts? I give myself #2 (but I'm biased)

Ben M: DATW-out. Well executed, very clean, deep dexes. Good job. Next time hit a 4 :) I'm a fan of clean stuff though, I liked this entry. Rank #3

Carlos: Diving Mirage. Creative move, definitely a difficult 3. Dive was a little high, (not too bad tho) and the mirage was a tiny bit rakey. Props for not selling out and going for a tough 3 rather than an easy 4. rank #4 (go for ducking pdx mirage, that's a fun 4).

Julien: Smog: Awesome. Almost textbook. 3 clean dexes. You win. #1

Matt: Dimwalk: Hard to see this move with the bag against your black shorts. I would say get the pixie a little higher and more towards where your butterfly would be so you can just fall into it rather than chase it into a sketchy butter at the end. Easy/common 4-add IMO. #5

Novice Sick 3:
Alan: Far Osis > Infinity > Stomping Far Dyno. Good execution, form was very good. Also, very controlled. Mostly right clipper and first two moves were BOPs. The last trick was DOPE though. rank#5

Me: Rip > DLO > Symp pixie. Basically what I was trying to do here was use all 4 std surfaces, both toes, both clippers. Also, no BOPs, kept it genuine. I could have done two 4s in the combo but chose to go genuine/bothsided instead. How was my form? Thoughts? I'd say it was a toss up between me and Michael. #1 or #2 (but again, I'm biased)

Ben M: Symp mirage > clip > ducking clip > Osis. Did anyone else notice that this was a sick 4? Symp mirage was hit very clean and tight, nice job. The ducking clipper needs to go over the back of your neck instead of your head, you didn't really duck at all, but it wasn't high or anything, B minus. Osis looked alright. Good control overall, but this wasn't actually a sick 3 so I really can't rank it.

Carlos: Ducking Clip > Pdx Mir > Xbd Rake. Even though the camera is kinda sketchy with the glare, examining closely I could see this was hit well. The duck was right over the back of your neck, very clean. Relax a little more on pdx mirage, it shouldn't be such a strenuous move, still hit pretty well though. Try magic hopping, turning the hips towards the bag 45ish degrees to make the pdx mirage smoother. The xbd rake was solid. Good job on using 3/4 surfaces and hitting everything clean. Next time film in a spot without glare though if you can. I like this entry a lot, but other people did go bigger. rank #6

Cody: Eggplant > Tapdown > Spinning Butter. I'm a big hater of one-sidedeness so this did not rank well with me. Only one foot was used for delays, and there were a couple repeats, two of the same atomic sets then two of the same butters. Good execution on the first 2 moves. The spinning butter was alright, but you should be able to spin the full 360 degrees, or at least close to it. The 270 spin was points off in my book. Work on developing your flipside. Try to use all 4 surfaces next time instead of just 2. rank #4

Kyle: Blur > Butter > Diving Osis. Good job on using 3/4 surfaces. The stepping set was kinda slurry. Work on setting the bag more straight up to more where your junk is rather than setting at a 45 degree angle. It should be a pivoting of your hips turning outward instead of shooting them out laterally. It's not clean and it made you really have to shift funny to snag the blur. Butter was a std butter, not much to say there, you were able to hit it well despite coming out of a sketchy first move. The dive went off camera so it was a little hard to see all of it but it looked pretty good IMO. The osis was a little stabby, but you still got it. Good job overall. #3

Matt: Mirage > Butter > Osis. Good execution. The osis was a little scoopy but other than that good job. Try slowing down the motion a little more and it will be more controlled and easier to hit stuff out of for runs. Hit a guiltless combo next time! Ranked #7 but only because everyone else busted bigger.

Michael: Drifter > Pdx drifter > Torque. All the moves were very clean. Excellent job. Form was textbook. Try picking a more varied combo next time. It was almost all right clipper and the right foot drifter was a repeat. Next time try to use all 4 surfaces. I'm torn to give either me or you rank #1

So I'll be the first one to commit myself for novice rankings, here's my thought :

Novice Sick 1

1- Julien - Smog - Clean and looked easy and control, nice one
2- Ben - Paradox dlo - Same thing, nice set straight up and good control on the dlo
3- Alan - Toe ducking Whirl - Nice styley tricks, the duck is a little far over your head but very clean
4- Benjamin - DATW - Nice looking DATW, props
5- Matt - Dimwalk - your pixie has improve since last comps, you should still try to plant a little faster but still good, try to set the pixie a little higher too, it will give you more time for a more controlled butterfly
6- diving mirage - nice styley tricks but pretty easy and the mirage was pretty uncontrolled

Novice Sick 3

1- Cody Carter - Atomic legover > tapdown > spinning butterfly - nice looking, everything looks under control, props
2- Michael - drifter > pdx drifter > torque - All hard downtime component, very nice looking and very nice combo, with some uptime component you would have been open for sure
3- Ben - ripwalk > dlo > symp pixie - butterfly doesnt seems so control in the ripwalk, but very nice combo and nice diversity of concept
4- Kyle - Blur > Butterfly > diving osis - Nice combo, styley, and I love that diving osis at the end, you would have ranked higher without that butterfly
5- Alan - Far osis > infinity > far stomping dyno - Very styley, everything looked easy and controlled
6- Carlos - ducking clipper > pdx mirage - rake - Nice combo
7- Benjamin - ??? - hmm, strange because the combo that is written isn't countable, you have a bail into a clipper which make 4 tricks, I don't know how to judge it :S still not last because of the symp mirage and ducking clipper which can count in the same sick 3
8- Matt - Mirage - Butterfly - Osis - Pretty good drill if you continue that into an near mirage and rpt it, you should try it, if it gets easy try it with pdx mirage and ss butterfly, the osis is a little pulled I'd say try to see it as a downtime gyro clipper more than a ''swoop'' with the bag

Arggg, untrue I'm not the first Ben beat me to it!!! Damn you Ben!!

My sick 3 didn't get included. :(

I think I got a confirmation e-mail for it too.

EDIT: I'll add rankings when I get home. Probably just novice, I don't feel comfortable ranking open yet.

Novice Sick 1:
Alan - Toe Ducking Whirl - Ducking was the. So was the whirl Rank #4
Ben B - Pdx DLO - Looked clean. Nice set out of it and everything. Rank #2
Ben M - DATW - Looked well controlled. People have a tendency to lean back, but you didn't. (too much)Rank #5
Carlos - Diving Mirage - Hard move well executed Rank #3
Julien - Smog - Very nice, looked fairly clean.. Rank #1
Matt - Your pixie is not really a pixe it all. Still a hard enough move. Rank #6

Novice Sick 3:
Alan - Far Osis>Infinity>Far Dyno - Nice style! I don't like the planting on far moves, but whatev. :P Rank #4
Ben B. - Ripwalk>DLO>Symp ss Mirage - I really don't think all 4 surfaces is a big deal, but props on it anyways. Everything was well executed, except maybe keep your arms to your sides more. Rank #3
Ben M. - Symp Mirage>Clipper>Ducking Clipper>Osis - This is 4 tricks, but they were all fairly well executed, except for the duck. You actually have to move your head under it.
Carlos - Ducking Clipper>Pdx Mirage>Rake - Very nice man. Try not to plant on pdx mirages, it's better. Rakes are pretty original.Rank #6
Cody - Eggplant>Tapdown>Spinning Butter - You suck. I'm just kidding, your atomics are super tight, but you didn't spin the full 360 degrees. Rank #1
Kyle - Blur>Butter>Diving Osis The butterfly kind of killed it. Rank #5
Matt - Mirage>Butter>Osis - Everything looked solid. Rank #7
Michael - Drifter>Pdx Drifter>Torque - I like drifters, but I don't like drifter>pdx drifter in a sick 3. Rank # 2

Thanks for the tips guys...I'm working the whole osis thing...I can't seem to get slow enough (I think its a balance thing).

As far as the dimwalk goes...I put that in because my ducking mirage vid has a bad duck...it was more over my the bottom back of my head than over my neck. And I hate looking at unclean ducks n' stuff...so I didn't want to make you guys look at it too. And I'd rather sumbit a "cleaner" vid of a relativly easier 4 add trick than a "dirty" 3add.

I'm going to work on some tricks for next time, but I wanted to point out that my dimwalk was filmed about two weeks or so after the last comp (there hasn't been much improvement on the pixie set) and I havn't had to much time to practice since then. I'm also into growing Bonsai trees and spring is here which equals lots of plant work. But now that most of my spring work is done I can focus a little more on footbag. SO LET THE TRAINING BEGIN!!!!
oh and my sick three was filmed the day the comps were due :) later yall.

Woot, they didn't foget to add me in the vids! :P hehe I'm happy. :D

Comments:
Open:
Kevin r - best dam combo i've seen, ever.
Me - i need to relax on my blurry set so I can get that '45 degree dada curve turn' in on my symp butter dex to clean it up. And wtf, I made open! Part-ay! :D
Novice:
Michael - props, i can't seal any of these moves - yet.
Ben - you've definately improved since the last competition - props!
Cody Carter - atomics are the best set ever, now do them bsos.
Carlos - nice diving mir, i hit this for the first time last sunday and its becoming one of my favorite moves. :D
Me - I wanted to do a bop+ combo where i did an advanced version of every trick, but i just couldn't link ducking butterfly to diving osis, so i had to axe the duck. My left pixe was having a bad day aswell so dimwalk was out of the question. Still happy w/ the combo though.

Thx! but that stepping is as a strait as they come. Watch it again, pause it when the bag is on my clipper, mark the screen w/ your finger, and then watch the bag travel strait up. It just looks funny cause i started my blur at a 45 degree angle to the camera.

Glad to see these came before April did. :P

Thanks for the frobs everyone, that combo was definitely a long time coming...and damn did it feel good....Though yeah, in the full clip I actually get excited, and then unsure (the?), and then happy again. The 9th dex was kinda iffy, but I still think I got it.

I'll post my comments on everyone else soon enough. :)

I tried so hard for my sick 3 too. :(

Bahhhhguu.

Open rankings (I got bored). Please don't flame me if they are way out of whack, I can't tell the difficulty of some of the tricks. I just now I can't do surging and pdx flux. (Jorden you freak).

Sick 1:
Rory Dawson - Toe Stepping Butterake - HOTT!! Too bad it was barefoot. :( Ranky #6
Gray - Ducking PS Egg - Your arms were funky at the beginning. You seemed really relaxed and then you were like, OH SHIT I gotta do symposium stuff now... Rank #2
Toby - Pixie DOD - Looked pretty easy. Almost thin though. Rank #10
Zac - Pixie Flux - Damn he's hot in those boxers. Haircut now. Second dex barely there. I've gotten it cleaner. Rank #5
John - Pixie Dyno - Semi-hard trick. Pixie seemed kinda bleh. Rank #12
Jorden - Surging pdx Flux - WHAT THE FUCK. YOU'RE INHUMAN. I like how you threw the bag like, "Eat that bitches." Rank #1
Mathieu - Motion Sickness - That was awesome. Couldn't decide between this and Gray's for the number two spot. 0.0 Rank #3
Cody - Double Spining Clipper - You didn't spinn all the way and it was slurry. But your spinning is good. :D Rank #11
Pete - Whirlygig. - Wtf is on your chest man? Perfectly executed it seemed, can't tell if it was clean though. Rank #8
Kyle - Blurry Dada - (really) Good step, bad dada.
Jeremy - Spinning Pdx Egg - Sick! Kind of a crazy hand catch though, first dex was bleh. Rank #7
Brian - Zoid Egg - lol. Zoid is cool, and your eggs are awesome. Rank #9
Nic - Alpine Feral - I can't find anything wrong with it. Your fairy is awesome. Rank #4
Michael Perny - Fog - Looked fine to me. Rank #13

I ranked rory so low because I thought that he hit a different move than what he was attempting, or because he mislabeled it or something. I dunno, he lost "points" with me because of that little error, but I've just now read that it was a transcription error by the editor, not by rory. I'd like to change his rank from 8 to 4, and change the ranks from 4-14 or whatever it is accordingly. apologies. that really was a super cool move that he did. wauxpin would have been cooler ;) but butter rake is sweet.
