Card Throwing

Post by dp »

I started throwing cards about a month ago and it's really fun. It's great to have battles with other people who throw and to bother people who don't. I've gotten so I can really sting people with two layers of shirts from about 15-20 feet away.

I've been practicing on some styrofoam and have torn paper apart with cards, (harder than it sounds).

Does anyone else throw cards?

Talk about what grip you use and what stuff you do with card throwing.

This site is pretty good in learning the first and easiest grip when throwing cards.

O_o This sounds fun. I'm going to learn how to do this. :D THanks for the spark of interest! I've seen this done before actually now that I think about it. It was on MythBusters.

I recieved a "coaching" at work for doing this.

I stopped throwing cards about a month ago actually, because I cut my brother's arm with a card. It wasn't just a scratch either. It cut open two of his veins on the forearm. :(

It is fun though. Just don't cut anyone's eyes or something horrible like that.

In rehab I got pretty good at it. We did it more for distance/accuracy than trying to get shit, which I guess is actually kind of strange in hindsight considering the type of people I was in there with. I just put the upper left-hand corner of the card between my index and middle finger, leaving maybe a centimeter or two between my fingers and the vertex.

As long as we're talking about cutting though and rehab; we were playing hacky sack in this room with big ass double layered windows and this kid went for the bag and he hit the window with his arm, his arm went through, the second pane fell on his arm, and totally severed his shit. Now I've seen a lot of gory shit IRL in my time, but this shit was absolutely fucking terrible. Especially going from kicking the bag around to blood spurting all over. It was intense.

This kid was a true player though. He came back a week later and finished his 35 days. True player. As you can probably guess, he was clean last time I heard from him too. With that dedication, you better believe it.

The resurgance of this thread got me back into throwing, I haven't for a couple weeks.

I'm gonna go buy a bunch of styrofoam and set up a target range in my basement. Maybe I'll save a plane full of innocent people from terrorists with this skill. Kinda like me hoping I toe stall an expensive vase that would've broken otherwise.

Yeah, i used to practice throwing cards alot. I was able to throw a playing card about 50 feet, haven't done it in a long time. then i started setting up a shoe box about 15 feet from me and throwing them in. got to where i was pretty consistant with that too. but defenitely the most fun is getting into battles with people and throwing cards at each other. but that was before i got into footbag, juggling, and unicycling.

I had an X-Men animated series marathon today and was wondering about card throwing, since that's Gambit's bag... I would love to be able to throw cards too!! I'm going to look into this.
