String Generator
String Generator
I seem to remember seeing in some thread that there's a string, or sick 3 generator or something along those lines. Where you pick the amount of ADDS, and it randomly generates a workable string. I'm not sure if it was online, or some sort of software. Does anybody have any idea what I'm talking about? Was I dreaming? If that's the case, one of you computer wizzes should write that up. =)

andrew, just think a little before you start a string. Think up a drill you haven't hit before, and go for it, even if it's really simple. Then try and do this same thing with moves you haven't hit before. It won't be long before your strings have more variety. You do not need an online string generator to help your problem.

Try linking together tricks you've never linked together before, it always feels cool and it will give you tons of new ideas. Even if it's like.. you've never linked muted pixie clipper to far pickup, still try it, you never know where it will lead.
What matt said is true. That happens alot.

Yeah, Dat is not releasing it yet.
Originally, I didn't know how many people would use a string generator for themselves - and this evolved into a long IM session with while we came up with several different multi-person competetive-ish uses. It works great for that, and I'm happy to see that people would use it for personal use. Actually I can't wait for a release, so that everyone can give feedback and we/dat can upgrade versions with a bunch of cool stuff and maybe an ultimate footbag resource could be had. First ideas - keep track of what strings you've hit. Rate the strings, community ratings, etc.
Thanks so much, Cod. That was great.

If you're gonna make one, you should really go all out, and give the people everything they could want.
The user should be able to:
Select tricks they can hit consistently, tricks they can hit most of the time, and tricks they don't want to try. When you're coding, have the 'most of the time' tricks come after something a bit easier, don't have two 'mott's' back to back. Obviously, have less motts than consistents. Have each trick linked directly to instructional media on the web. When users see how many tricks they are refusing to drill, they can select their weak tricks, or tricks they've never heard of, and learn how to do them.
Select ADDs. Also, for multi ADD strings (2>3>2>4) the user should be able to select, from 1-8, every add they want generated for the whole string. This will, in turn, give them the option to generate single ADD strings (3>3>3) along with multi ADD strings.
Select string length.
Select pre-set 'quick strings', from a list of descriptions. (Basic Clipper Drills: A mix of butterflys, clippers, and osii. Intermediate Clipper Drills: A mix of ripwalks, whirls, osii, butterflys, swirls) and so on.
Give many options. Users like options. It's up to you to make it a manageable, intuitive process in selecting options and generating strings. Make it multi-leveled as far as depth, from the 'quick strings' to selecting every move that will be generated, each user will choose how in-depth they'd like to go.
The only thing that should restrict the user: BSOS-edness. Make every string generated incorporate both sides, so that every trick appears both sides each string. Weaksided individuals will benifit from being forced to practice both sides.
And I don't know how good you are at coding, but it'd be nice to see a little stick man preform the strings. I know this is pretty tough.
Take your time, and you can produce a string generator that everyone will use. If the program is good enough, no one will need to make another, and you won't have to make any revisions.

DAT is making one....making another one i think would be kind of pointless...
people played with it at nyj, and a select few have it, and have been playing with it.
I know hes still working on it, and eventually wants to release it to the public
