How to: Close a Footbag (easy way)

Post by jrstubs »

This is the simple way to close a footbag with much better results than the blind stitch. I figured out that I wasn't the first person with this idea, but I'm the first with pictures :) (I think)

The first step would be to stitch the last pentagon all the way, but this is very important; keep your thread attached to spool!

Image

The second step, heh. Loosen all the stitches for 2 sides of the pentagon. Make sure you are loosening the thread that is still attached to the spool.

Image

Pull the pentagon away from the hexagons and push the thread apart like this

Image

At this point, cut both pieces of thread to the same length, and thread them through your needle.

Image

You are going to want to push the needle and thread through this hole between the two hexagon stitches, then up through the top.

Image

Image

When you flip the bag inside out, make sure you are flipping it through the hole where the thread is coming out so there aren't any complications ;)

Image

This is when I fill. To close the bag simply pull at each stitch until the gather is the same as all the other pentagons. once you finish, one of your threads will be much longer than the other , just cut them to the same length to make knotting easier.

Image

When I knot off, I do a single/double over/single/double over/ single/ double over/ single/ single/ which equals 8 knots. You should know when the knot is close to the fabric, because it will start to put more gather into the fabric.

Image

Cut one thread to about 1/2 inch. Put the other thread through your needle, push it between the hexagons, and out between the hexagons in another place.

Image

The shorter thread will tuck into the footbag by itself, cut the longer piece of thread that is coming out between the hexes, and you have a nice, new footbag :)

Enjoy ;)

Techniques like this just seem like an overly fancy way of avoiding learning a really useful skill.

I tried to make sense of the tutorial, but I was completely lost as well. :|

Jon, once again you have failed to catch my tone and gone and gotten upset with me.

I WAS BEING SILLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a mod, and even when I was I didn't ban anyone or anything like that. I'm a nice guy remember??

quadgun, my appologies, I thought it was obvious that I wasn't being serious.

jrstubbs, sorry for being an idiot in your thread where you were just trying to help people out.

cool method. I don't leave the thread attached to the spool, but its a good idea.
I didn't think it was hard to follow, but I've been using the loose stitch for a while so I already know how it works.
Blind stitch can be useful in some things, but for footbags, I think the loose stitch is more accurate.
Pretty finished bag. :)
