This is not a personal attack upon anyone

In a For Sale thread, someone presented their brand new hard worked on product, and the very first response was:

Anonymous wrote:I'm very sorry to say that I don't like that design. I hope I am the only one who doesn't like it.

A) This hurts sales

B) There's no reason for it

C) It's unprofessional and no one would want this done to them

What are your thoughts on the matter? Should people keep those things to PM's? etc.

C'mon Dave. If you stitched a bag and put it up for sale. How would you feel about the first response being, "I bet it plays great, but it's really, really ugly"

i think mods should clean up posts that arent directly related to sale, like a question or something. but thats just me,l and being closed minded.

Alright well thanks anyway. I actually made a couple bags using that pattern after I saw u use it. It is a neat pattern and the colors you used are really sweet. I would of bought it from u if u still had it. I usually get my bags from Mark Telman, hes a local guy and gets me bags for 10. but that bag is really cool and I would of loved to have it.

lol. i would have defended myself and gone on about respect, oh well.

i feel like the only replies to a for sale thread should be reviews (good or bad) or questions about the footbags/stitcher/transactions. i don't feel like it's a mod's "job" to clean up iffy posts.

I'm glad "anonymous" said that, the shirt was ugly. Maybe next time he'll make a better design so he's not left with shirts that he can't sell. It wasn't out of line.

Furthermore, your example about my bags is stupid, because it doesn't matter what a bag looks like so someone saying "it plays well but is ugly" is a comment that isnt comparable to a t-shirt. You wear shirts cuz they look good, I don't play with bags cuz they're pretty.

I think clarification on someone else's posts should be allowed, and just (funny) bullshit posts should be allowed because they're sometimes funny.

yeah, i agree with the sentiment that people should stop being so over sensitive. it was an honest opinion and if you literally didnt want anyone's opinion they either wouldnt post it or would say they dont want anyone's opinion on it.

I am pro-opinions, if someone wants to share theirs.

if someone doesn't want someone discussing what they think of their products, then the product shouldn't be advertised in a discussion forum.

on a seperate note, if I found myself having an opinion like sam's regarding someone's product, I would probably say to myself "well, this opinion I have won't help anyone by posting it, and might have a detrimental effect on this person's sale, so I probably will keep it to myself."

We were taught in art school that our work/creations will be critiqued whether we want them to or not. It's just going to happen. We simply cannot please everybody. Some of it may be constructive and others may not. All we could do is accept it, learn from it and hopefully be better for it.

It's not easy, though, to separate yourself from something you've made and worked hard for. I've seen plenty of people in college take criticism to their work as if they were being personally insulted. It reminds me of something a high school art teacher said, " You'll make a shitty commercial artist. Stick to fine art, you weirdo!"

My feeling on this is that people have the right to share their opinion be it positive or not.* Mods aren't going to start editing people's posts in For Sale threads because someone gives a bad review of a bag or says they say they don't like a t-shirt design. Again, people have the right to share their opinion. If it starts getting vicious, personal, etc, it's a different matter.

If my t-shirts weren't selling for some reason, I would definitely want to know why. I don't think the comment was made to hurt someone's business- and in this specific situation, even after a "negative" post was made, the next one was positive. I doubt that people will read the thread and say "____ didn't like the design, I'm not going to buy the shirt." But I've been told that I need to bring my expectations of people down a few notches.

When posting on the forum, you're bound to get negative along with positive. As people have learned in the video section, It's important to learn how to take both kinds of responses as long as the responses aren't mean spirited.

okay so that post in my for sale thread was from someone who doesnt have a footbag from me, and is obviously promoting a bag that is 1/3 the price and quality of mine. he wasnt giving a review of my bag and wasnt asking a question, but that post alone made two customers question why i dont sell mine for 10. they were noobs and i ended up telling them to buy a bag from him if they wanted to, and in time they would understand... but this situation shouldnt have happened.

i would never go into someones sale page and talk about how someone else has cheaper bags and how id rather buy them. not only is that rude, its disrespectful to the stitcher.

okay im sorry for this rant... i guess it made me more frustrated than i thought.

i can see how one negative comment like that can hurt sales, but i personaly would not buy a handmade 32 for 10 dollars... the first thing i think when i see that price is, "wow, this person doesnt have enough confidence in their stitching, to think that someone would pay more then 10 bucks for this bag." i'm not saying that marks bags are bad bags by any means, i havent played with one so i wouldnt know, but i'm just saying that that is the first thought that comes to mind when i see a bag that cheap. like alot of people have said before me, i think that for sale pages should just be for reviews *good and bad alike* and questions. thats my 2 cents
