I wish footbag.org had...
Videos for all the tricks. Ratings for all videos voted on by the footbag community. Tips for tricks/combos, ratings for these too.
I also wish that modified was there in order to centralize things, but I've already asked about this.
BLOGS: real ones. we could have way more blog functionality than we do here on modified. Like subscriptions, etc.

i agree a blog on footbag.org would be really awesome, im all for that.
plus it would be a plus for someone like me who doesnt know how to hit all this super awesome tricks, or doesnt know what that trick looks like, to be able to see it.
I also would like to see an update to footbag.orgs move section, it definately seems to be lacking on a few tricks.

Great ideas guys!
I believe everyone can agree the tricks section is out of date. We are actually looking for someone to undertake the project of updating it by adding missing tricks and adding more videos.
If you are interested in taking on this project, please send an email to Steve G and myself (brat at footbag dot or org and ironcladben at footbag dot org). It will be quite an undertaking and you must be willing to put in the work to do a good job.

Exactly. I just wish it there was something set up where everyone could contribute - like youtube, but not exactly the same. I know flipsider has/was going to have something like this. So that one person didn't have to do everything.
Instead of making this thread and hoping things will appear on footbag.org, we should figure out the details of what needs to be done and which people have the skills to do it.
The tricks section needs videos - everyone could make vids and submit them
There needs to be a mechanism to upload this stuff - someone who knows computer science?
Maybe different organization of tricks /page layout
blogs - some addition/mixture of the blog software already out there
...before I get too into all this. I 'd like to see more people respond.

I'm 100% for this and I will help with whatever i can with the time i have.
Here's what I want to see-
-A gigantic trick list that includes everything listed on modified (I can and want to help with this)
-Video's of atleast all the 1-6 add moves. Videos should include the trick in real time, followed by it in slow mo. (after we get the trick list done we should start a thread requesting vids. The thread will have the trick list and once players start sending vids in we can highlight the moves that already have vids)
-The forum over there really sucks, and as a prospecting player to the sport i was really put off by it. Org's forum button should pull up modified inside the orange section on Org. It would keep the person viewing the modified forums on the footbag.org site while giving them access to the best footbag resource on the web - modified.in

This is relatively simple to do code wise and all a prospecting player would have to do is register a forum account on modified in addition to the Org account. I'm fine with Org keeping its ifpa forum separate, but Footbag.org should replace it's 'community' forums with a spank'in link to modified. I cannot stress enough how useful the threads here are as opposed to the threads on footbag.org - its a crime to rob new players of this info.

Steve G already has an interface set up on the footbag.org system to rather easily edit these pages. The only this is he won't give access to it to just anyone. Like I said, if one person is willing to do the work on it here, we will grant you access.CIC flurry wrote:The tricks section needs videos - everyone could make vids and submit them

Kyle, to address your idea to put modified within footbag.org.
I'm strongly against that. You'd be opening the taps to a huge influx of hacky sackers and annoying people that don't play footbag. I believe modified should be a community and not a resource. I enjoy coming to modified for the footbag and non footbag section because in general I like footbag players and like to hear what they have to say.
I started out at .org, and waited til I was truly interested in learning and playing footbag before I went to modified. I see .org as a way to filter out people who really aren't wanted at modified and in footbag. If you've ever visited .org you know there are a ton of annoying, ignorant people who float in and out, and people who are actually there for footbag eventually make their way to modified.
It seems like some people just want footbag to explode, become the new skateboarding or something. I think that would be terrible. While I want the best player to make something for their great skill, the community is far more important to me. It's one of the best if not the best parts of footbag.
"1) New people are being brought here before they are players, destroying the sense of community. We used to all play footbag right.
3) This place was never supposed to be a resource. It was where people who played footbag hung out online. See number 1. People who play don't need it to be a resource for noobs. "

Lol, Steve like, wrote an anti missile jamming program for some fighter jets when he was like 17.Iron Clad Ben wrote:Steve G already has an interface set up on the footbag.org system to rather easily edit these pages. I'd like to encourage people to offer more ideas.
The forum thing is debatable, but I think isn't even an option. One suggestion to curb the newbs infiltration could be like a minimum posting requisite before being able to view the full forum.
I don't think people would upload porn, but there could be moderation.
I didn't know there was a mechanism to do this. But is this only to add videos or more than that? What do ya'll think of ratings anyway? Here's how i envision it. For certain trick, there are several videos. The best ones are at the top. You can also go to a section with videos of combos. Best ones on top (always changing). Also a section with full edited videos which can be sorted by most viewed, highest ranked, or newest.
Back to the blog thing: one feature is to have links to your top blog posts on the side. So they're not hidden amongst millions of your other posts.
There needs to be more input/demand before such a project would be undertaken. I don't know if I have the experience to do it, but I'd learn and do it if nobody else did.

Ok, well turns out modified is a resource. So if you don't want hacky newbs in .in then start contributing to .org so newbs can get the resources they need.Pirate Man wrote:"3) This place was never supposed to be a resource. lets not turn this thread into a forum debate here, i doubt steve wants to do it anyways.
If you want the footbag.org forum or website to be better, don't bother complaining about it, because that will achieve nothing. Either involve yourself with helping to be part of the changes you want to see, or accept the fact that those changes won't happen without people deciding to become involved and changing something. Believe me, the current people involved with footbag.org are putting in as much work as they're prepared to put in, and they're not going to give up more time just to meet the desires of somebody who is too lazy to do anything themselves.

Well, the way I see it, modified existing is what got me into footbag. Had I not had the resources available in areas like the Trick Tips section I probably never would've thought of trying any of the things I have.
Albeit I've only been freestyling for the better part of a year (long time circle kicker), and I'm not much of a forum poster, it's still a nice place to read up on footbag related happenings or to get some new ideas. So yeah, yay for resources...
Anyway, back to the topic:
I'm currently about done with my second year of a 4 year web development degree w/SUNY Morrisville. At the moment I'm swamped with projects. But if people are willing to let me do it and still want/need things done I might be able to do somthing over the summer break.

The footbag community is kind of a secret. Modified is kind of a secret as well. If Modified was on .org it wouldnt really matter "hacky sackers" would post like 3 times. Or use it as a resource rather than posting. They would more than likely post stuff we have all read a 100000 times.
Like what kind of shoes should I wear?
What are the best bag?
These are the questions that would be asked 1000000 times over. Which they still are. Basically what im getting at is it wouldnt matter. The forum is a good place to learn about what the community is about. Everyone is new at one point.
