This is the beginning so...

The first time I met Jon Nagela (so far as I can remember) was at Worlds '99 in Chicago. Jon may have been pretty one-sided, but alot of it were these crazy fairy moves. You just didn't see many fairy moves back then. Like, virtually none. Jon's style really stood out. I mean, he wasn't like, a stand-out top shredder that year the way that Sunil was, but still, that crazy fairy stuff stood out in my mind. It was cool.

A year and a half later, Jon came out to the second Colorado Shred Symposium. The previous year, the first CSS, was really more of a team effort, with me and Red and Dave Holton participating closely, and Eli Piltz as the Point Man, and it was a strangely tight-knit group that showed up to play (like, almost exclusively BAP, plus a couple guys who were soon to be [me, Abshire, and Yacine, for instance], and almost everybody crashed at our house. Its like, everybody there all already knew everybody there (with one or two exceptions) But, by that second year, the Boulder seen had begun to disintigrate some. Piltz had gone to San Diego. Dave had gone back to Aspen. Red and I were not sharing a house. CSS2 was not as much of a team-effort, and I felt that there was alot more pressure on the tournament director (me) to pull off a big event (CSS2 was being "used" as the event to get a certain bunch of kickers together to film Tricks of the Trade 2) almost single-handedly (except for Brad Kaplan - that guy really really helped me out alot) Anyway, that second year there were all these people showing up that I didn't already know. In particular, I hadn't really expected a large contingent from Chicago. I mean, Davidson was there for the filming of Tricks 2, but other than than, I wasn't really expecting anybody from Chicago. But then, somewhat unexpectedly, there was a whole troop of those Chicago guys. A lot of people were psyched about James Risden, but aside from Davidson, Jon was the only guy I recognized from Chi-town, and I was glad to see one familiar face amongst all those guys. Towards the end of the weekend, Jon was one of the last guys to be leaving town, I guess, and he asked me if he could crash at my place for a while, 'cause he had nowhere else to go (everybody had already checked out of the Golden Buff motel), so I explained to him how to find my place, and I waited for him to show up, but he never did. He's still around to start this post, so I guess nothing really bad had happened to him to keep him from finding my place, though I worried a little bit for a while back then.
He can be a little strange, but I like Jon, and I'm glad that he's still with the game all these years later.

edit : shit, I hadn't considered the consequences of posting in this thread... now if somebody else responds they're gonna say something about me. Damn.

Outsider!

One time at an early CSS me and Bryan Fournier stayed with him and Elli Piltz. One time at western regionals he rolled his ankle and competed one sided but still did a really good job. Ashley Danowski looks up to him. He can hit flipwalk which is a crazy wacky trick. He wore sports glasses and made them look cool. He responds to some of my posts about obscure stuff. He is older than me and younger than a lot of trees. I may or may not have smoked out with him.... I think not. I have seen him at more than 3 tournaments. He's a nice guy.

When I met Ben Rea, his mom was afraid that he had let some weirdo into their house, but then she met me and found out I was all right. His first tournament was KICKASS2, and Rob Wojcikewicz's mom let Ben and Rob come to the party all by themselves. i thought that was really cool. Ben has big windows and recently won a footbag from me for being the freakiest video maker on modified. the next time I see him will be in about 2 weeks for GRASS!

The first time I met Matt Cross was Funtastik 2000, I believe. It was my first tournament and I was pretty nervous to kick with real footbaggers, but Matt warmly greeted me into my first circle of the event and since then he has been one of my closest friends in the community.

He has been leading the community by example in spreading the sport and executing sick tricks for years. And he has some of the best ankle cranks in the biz since Brian Mckenzie.

I distinctly remember grabbing some lunch with Matt at my first tournament and just exchanging tips on certain sets as we walked through the street festival. And the guy at the pulled pork stand yells "That's amazing!" after Matt was showing me the trick to a stepping set. Matt replied, "You know what's more amazing than that? PULLED PORK SANDWICHES!" And we scored some free grub. He has always been one inspiringly smooth operator.

To date, I still look up to Matt not only because of his easy-going personality and footbag talents, but also because of his skill with a six-string and lulling deep, easy to listen to vocals.

i met matt cross at the 2006 us open. He's super fun to kick with, and a pretty chill cat, that happens to be good at teh hacky. Hes a good stitcher also, i have the 7th bag he ever made, and although its long since retired its still a great bag.

I've never met caleb but he seems like a pretty slick fella, i never really talk to him on modified about anything but i see him around occasionally, maybe he will be at a comp that i go to sometime??? he also really likes cake.

I met Adam Greenwood at the Mrijuana March at Queens park in Toronto last spring. He was planting trees in BC last summer. He has a small face. He uses eclipsey-style tricks all over the place... quite unique/respectable. He came to Kickass 2. He drank beer while he was there. He is from Toronto. He is akin to those who wear Lugs... I'm pretty sure. He's a nice guy.

Adam Greenwood has a cool last name too.
