mega trade 07 ???

Post by akalazou »

i searched for the last time there was a mega trade.. maybe 1 or 2 years ago but i didnt find the thread :(

id like to make a mega trade once again, you send a bag to someone and you receive a bag from someone you dont know (like this: a send to b, b send to c, c send to d, d send to e, e send to a) i think you got the point.

I made a quick list of some great stitchers that id like them to join this idea.

Me
Brian Denis
Holly Mattews
Tom Mosher
Pengpeng Du
Matt Cross
Richard Abshire
Michal Biarda
Nathan Pipenberg
David Claven
Travis Iden
Mark Telman
Andrew Dunford
Erik Savage
Fletcher Funk
Chris Miller
Toby Suggate

if any of you have questions or would like to join it up, let me know plz, id like to make it works within the next month.

I know i didnt put all the great stitchers on this list ... like i said its a quick list, dont be mad at me :) if you wanna be in this trade (even if your name isnt on the list and you think your bags are good enough to be traded with the great stitchers there are in the list), let us know.

so, if any of you wanna be in, post it plz

btw, im in :)

for now stitchers in it are:

Julien Cote
Erik Savage (later)
Trvis Iden
Brian Denis (maybe)

Ive been wanting to try and trade with someone, but receiving bags in Oz is problematic. Our last order of 3 footfighters came through Customs and they cut one of them open to check the filler. No compensation, cut straight through the panelling.

So im nervous about sending/receiving bags! Does anyone know a more secure way to get them through customs? Like a method of labelling the package or something?

If that was possible, id be in! I just dont want the bag i send to get ruined, or the bag i receive...

If someone who has played with one my recent bags(rare few) will say they are worthy, then I'd like to be in. I don't want to add myself to the list if my bags are no good.(I'm not doubting my stitching, just trying to be modest.)

And wouldn't it be '07, not '08?

i would, if there was a jr. and sr. trade.

im not going to say whos in what category, i think you should put yourself in the category you belong in.

that way, mr. pro dosent trade with one month stitching billy. or maybe pools of people. whatever.

depends on the due date, make it during summer (like 1.5 months) so everyone will have time.

but yeah, i could probably do this.

edit: i think most of the people on your list should be in sr. trade zone.

i dont want to sound conceited, and i dont want to name names, but there are people on that list that I don't want to trade with.

plus there are a lot of people that i've already traded with, and i'd rather have 30 bucks going to worlds than a new bag to be honest.

i agree with nathan.

there are a couple people on that list i dont want to trade with.
and there are many on that list that ive already traded with our bought from or would like to buy from... good stitchers deserve money.
also, many on that list dont normally do trades... for whatever reasons.

sorry, but im not in on this.

i totally agree with that idea (jr. sr. thing)

last time we made it that way, there was a pro trade and a "up and comers" one

this is for the sr. one

and for the time, i didnt want to rush it, i just asked to know if people would be interested to make it. even, we could make it after worlds if most of people prefer, that way they are gonna be able to get ready for worlds.

when would you guys be interrested to make it ?? right now ? after school ? during summer ? doesnt matter, i got to much free time ?

and i forgot to say: i will update my first post with the participating list

[quote="PegLegHolly"]good stitchers deserve money.[quote]

it might be true for you, but its not the way I do my things, i did something like 50 bags and sold only 3, mostly gifts and trades. i dodnt care about the money, caus i dont thing 20-30 doesnt worth the 3+ hours spent on making a great bag. i already have a full time job, so i dont need that money. i just do it for fun and for me, i stated to make bags to make trades and i didnt want to pay 20-30 $ for a bag. so i make them.

thats my opinion.

Yea, the posts about not wanting to trade with certain people makes sense, but how will you know what a person's bags are like unless you try them yourself? Trading is a good way to see what you like in other stitcher's bags. It helps build reputations.

I'm planning on sending out bags to players just so they have a feel for what they play like. Hopefully soon.

I still like this idea though.

Btw, I nominate Waylon for the list unless he's just totally against the idea.

Last time the up and comers trade never went through due to lack of participation. It's tough to judge the abilities of other stitchers just from over the internet.

I think there should be a cut off as to senior trade and junior.
Sr. = "have been stitching(32s) for this # months or longer"
Jr. = "have been stitching(32s) for this # months or less"
or something like that.

really???? hmmm, thats interesting because i think peoples techniques might change 5 or 6 times once you have gotten to 100, i have stitched over 50 bags and i can tell you by the time i get to 100 i dont think i will be pro, not even close. i guess for most people though that is a decent number. 200 though you should deffinatly be pro and if your not you should stop stitching.

I also think there are some super sr.'s in there: abshire, peng peng, and mosher. we all know they have made more bags than any of us.

But making hundreds of bags doesnt necessarily mean that your (not meaning anyone particularly) bags are good.
Likewise, some people have a natural talent for making pretty good bags without having made hundreds, maybe not even 50 bags.

Anyhoo can anyone help me RE: sending bags through customs, as i posted above?

the up and comers trade went through dude, I made it happened, everybody sent me their address so i can tell where to send the bag they have made for it. sorry dude, you lie

for brinard saying 75-100+ bags to be a pro, i dont think its valuable either, i remember Toby's 5th bag, it was hella nicely stitched !!

about Roy's idea, i disagree too, to put the level with the months, if you stitch 1 bag every day for 1 month or if you stitch 1 bag every month during one year ... i think you got the idea here

Travis, i agree at 100% thats why i wanna make it happens again.

same for Ben Rea, you might at made 200 bags but if you made them with 150 different template, its like if you made only 2 bags to get used to your template ...

so, IMO, you might have made only 15 bags, but if they are fucking awesome and you think they are the best of the world, and your stitching is EVEN, personnally, i think you can be in this trade. Pics are required tho, many of us posted many pics in here, just search for the last pic if you arent sure about his/her stitching skills.

if youve changed templates 100 times in 100 bags, you have 100 bags worth of stitching expierence, and imo, i think you are ready to trade with the big boys. you may not have your template, but at least your panels would hopefully be same size and shape.

sure, you may not have perfect panels like the kid thats been stitching 2 months, but you have the knowledge to know what makes a good bag and what dosent.

also, if you dont footbag, your bags shouldnt be traded with the rest, who have refined their product by hours of prototype testing.

its true you can make a good bag on your first try. but i didn't settle into a groove until about 50. you may make a couple good bags between attempts number 1-whatever, but you don't become a good sewer until you mess with your patterns, fill, gather and stitch placement enough to find the perfect medium. that doesn't happen in 15 tries.

I don't mind trading, but I would like to get some money earned from making my bags instead of getting a fresh new bag, like Nathan said. That's just my honest opinion.

From my personal experience, when you can judge your personal stitching style critically with each seam and stitch and understand why wrinkles, folds and uneven panels occur (and how you can reprimand that instead of finishing a half-assed job), then you're an experienced stitcher. That alone can take months to comprehend. Understanding the ratio of fill and which filler types go well with others is another concept to understand as well; another few months to use experimenting is likely and probably the most important for a bag's performance.

Being intimidated by thick facile is silly for a stitcher, I think.
