I just decided that I want to experiment with Grafitti. This link that Asmus posted in the thread for Tina's new vid inspired me.

Does anybody know of any good forums or sources for information about Graffiti? I googled it but it just gave me pics of graffiti and uselessness... Any help would be appreciated

you don't experiment with graf. either you bomb hard, or you don't. either you have the balls and the ego to write your name on stuff, or you don't. let me give you a piece of advice if you choose to get into it: obviously, it's illegal, so if you use a forum, never use your real name AND never use your moniker, because believe it or not, cops know graf forums exist too. the easiest way to get into it is get up and eventually you will run into other writers.

I don't completely agree with that.. Most people start painting graffiti together with some friends.. And learn from each other.. If you are not starting to paint with anybody it is a good idea to practice some at home. So you don't look like a complete toy when you hit the streets. Ugly graffiti is ugly.

i was big into graffiti, although i never actually put anything up because i didn't want to be a toy, i sketched a lot. one mistake people make when starting out is they try to go wildstyle too early, the key is to practice simple letters first for a while. there's also different types, there's

bombs - which are usually big bubble letters, these are quick
rollers - big block letters done near the top of a building for example done with painting rollers
handstyles/tag - this is your name, quick usually with some sort of fat marker or mop
pieces - intricate letters, with shading, very difficult

If you look at the link I posted, you could see how some forms of graffitti are NOT illegal, just as certain kinds of marijuana in certain countries are also not illegal.

Some kids tagged the sidewalk in front of my house when I was 10 and it took my dad two weeks to get it off. I guess that was the end of my love of "bombing hard".

I've recently been interested in graffiti. Practicing letter and stuff on paper at school. There's a river nearby with a bunch of highway bridges over it and that's probably the only place I'd ever do it if I ever really decided to. There's some really amazing pieces of art on those bridges.

Back when I was a kid, I thought that this one graffiti I saw throughout the city was cool. I wrote it on my sidewalk one day, and my mom flipped. It was SIR...some bad gang from around there.

No, actually. After reading up on the forum a bit and rereading the posts on this thread, I'm beggining to understand that I was misunderstood; probably at my own fault. I never really wanted to go out and tag my name on anything just for the sake of having my name there... maybe I misunderstood the term Graffiti. I'm interested in painting crazy shit on walls as a form of art... on the forum it talked about graffiti being "the language of the ignored." I get plenty of attention and both my parents love me, I've never slit my wrist or slung a gat.. I even made honor roll for the first time last semester. Graffiti seems like cool art that would be fun to do. I'm sure that I'll be able to find places to paint without pissing anyone off.

I think I misunderstood the term "bomb hard." If that means to go and tag everything in my area, then I'm definately not going to do that. I never planned on doing that. Sorry for using words that I didn't understand.
