Cool reverse whirl stuff! I don't think I've seen much of that in your vids...

Make it happen!

I just got home from shred with Jorden and Jon in Guelph. It was really cool. I played like poo, which was pretty frustrating (I always seem to play the worst when it's the most important to play my best -- ha). It was incredible to see Jorden play in person. I've seen incredible players in person before, but this was really something. It was like every single run was something spectacular or every run contained at least one move that, like, he invented, or that I've never seen before. Playing wasn't good enough -- half the time I felt like just sitting down and watching.

Some highlights I remember were:
-forehead > whirl BSOS
-cheese processor off the foot first try
-terraging clipper and high plains (maybe BSOS)
-gyro janiwalker
-blurry ripwalk (from clipper and from toe)
-rev whirl > far rev whirl [repeat] > symp rev whirl > rev whirling swirl
-stepping whirling swirl
-double down swirls and stuff
-spinning whirling swirl...most of these were probably, like, all in one run or something...
(these "highlights" definately do not do him justice...)

It was fun.
It was weird though -- I felt so baffled as to give props. How do you give props to one of the best in the world? Geez. For every run? Weird.

I had one highlight that was neato:
far rev whirl > gyro clip [repeat] > far rev whirl > spin clip > far rev whirl > gyro clip [repeat] > far rev whirl > spin clip, and spin rev whirl BSOS, and ended on a stepping rev whirl > hand catch
That was like my only good run of the whole session. It was like really cold and windy and crap. My muscles and joints totally aren't what they used to be. I can't handle cold shred anymore.

Then I lost my return ticket to Toronto and had to pay again to get home :? Oh, Jorden did teach me the trick to rev whirling sets though, and I did it on my second try, so I'll give those a whirl -- ho ho ho. Oh, speaking of which, I threw in a blurry whirl to end one run -- nobody noticed, but it definately didn't feel too great. Not terribly bad, though. I will definately continue to stay away from them though. Oh we also checked out Jorden's room, which is kind of a fanboy sort of thing to say, but it was neat -- it's all footbag stuff with like post-its of 30-second shreds to try and stuff.

EDIT: Oh yeah, this was cool too -- Jon and Jorden were, like, "Has slapping blakula ever been hit?" and I was like, "Probably?" and then Jorden hit it first try. There was lots of this; "Jorden can you hit this?" "I dunno" -- first try...
EDIT 2: Oh yeah, he was close to crispy triage (plant on all dexes), and he did CLEAN double ducking first try.

Sweet -- now I just need Vasek and Jim Penske to post on my blog and all will be right with the world. :!: It was really cool to meet you too Jorden -- I hope we can do this again in not too long.

Shred: Tuesday, April 3, 207:
-reverse whirr
-pixie ducking clipper > blur [repeat]

Reverse blazing was working both sides, which was awesome, but the plantless fast motion of reverse whirr is too much for my knees :( So I couldn't push my flip, which was killing me. I was super close to flip reverse blaze though -- that doesn't hurt as much, but holy you have to get your revwhirling leg out of the way fast. I did lots of pixie stuff too, 'cause Mike was skooling them really hard and productively, but they left my knees kind of raw too :(

Mike hit pixie clipper > pickup [repeat] and I think maybe the same combo on the other side too. He also hit magellan, though he said he's prolly done it before. And he hit his first flip smear. His pixies are looking really textbook.

I think that's about it.
I want Jorden to try double spinning clipper > double ducking clipper [repeat]!!
I also want to film a Dylan Fry India-ripoff-style video replacing Dylan Fry with Erik Chan, and India with Toronto. It's not quite the same, but I'm going home soon and I want to remember good stuff. That's all for now. For a lot of things I really miss my computer. Blah. Like all of the important crap that's stuck on my harddrives... I should fix it or something.

Hey Asmus Helms -- thanks!
I filmed today. It's cool -- I can tell in advance that I'm going to have a good day and bring my camcorder. I'm always right :D I think it totally has to do with my body feeling good and just feeling happy in general, and stoked about footbag. Maybe that is obvious? I was in comics mode just up until Mike buzzed up though. I got a WHACK of books in the mail and have still barely looked at them:

Ashley Wood's "Grande Finale"
J. Scott Campbell's "Danger Girl" collection
Tim Sale's "Batman: Dark Victory"
+ "Batman: The Long Halloween"
Jim Lee's "Batman: Hush" (1 + 2) -- also learned that Jim Lee has a psychology degree from Princeton! Cool.
Jeff Smith's "Rose" (prequel to Bone)
Mike Mignola's "Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser"
and Adam Warren's "Empowered"

I'm also expecting that Gunsmith Cats Omnibus any day still...
Anyway. Yeah, I have lots of drawings, but they're all lame sketches. I plan to scan a ton and restart my website ( http://chan.hackrifice.com ) (and maybe buy a domain for it!) some time in the near future. It's one of my many ongoing projects. My stuff is lamezo, though. You should check out my buddy Mike Faille's stuff!! :!: -- www.mikefaille.com (whoa!)

Umm, so footbag:
Shred: April 5(?), 2007:
-tapping rev whirl both sides (BSOS for first time hitting?)
-tapping rev whirl > blur [repeat]
-ducking PS mirage > dive symp mirage (BSOS?) -- both sides anyway
-rev whirr rolling off on camera (rev whirlwalk is definately coming soon -- I was close to rev blazing butterfly both sides, but didn't want to waste a video session practicing it)
-fog > rev whirl > fog > too shocked too hit the last trick (I didn't mean to do this -- I bailed to the rev whirl and then automagically did another fog)
-some neat combo with atomic rev whirls, or something?

I dunno. I don't have a computer but I want to compile footage of myself and make a Just James-esque video some time so that when my body completely quits on me I can be happy with myself remembering that I was once good. So that's coming too some day.

I feel pretty radical physically. We played footbag for 2 hours and then I did a couple laps in the pool and then hottubbed for a while, concentrating a jet on my shin, and then we biked to get Chinese food. I was digging the exercise :D I'm stoked to bike when it's nice out.

K, I have 3 days of drawing to catch up on now!

I just wanted to say that I really like the videos you make. Coming For You Norek really worked well.

On the Comic Book tip; are you familiar with Tony Millionaire's work? His Sock Monkey and Crow books are really worth a look.

Glad to see you are back in the game.

I haven't read either.
I have "Sock Monkeys" written on my pencil case (that I've had since highschool) in big letters in white-out, though. I'm very embarassed by my pencil case, but have never bothered to get another. I saw it reviewed or previewed in Wizard, about a millions years ago and liked the name.

I'm also intrigued by The Crow (you mean the gothic dude played by Brandon Lee?) -- I never saw the movie or anything, but have always wanted to. I think I have it too...

YES!
I am going to want to play a LOT this summer!
We should find somewhere nice outdoors where we don't have to destroy our bodies on concrete. Our few outdoor sessions so far this year have left my shins and knees and hips not wanting to play footbag.

I will probably be jobless for like...a long time :D
I'm so excited!! I am also getting, like, $900 for tax returns...so it would be rad to make the Montreal Circle Comp in June, or maybe stretch my funds and try for Worlds (potentially last chance?). I've already told myself that I'm going no matter what, but realistically I will have no money... Or maybe I should save the money and, like, eat and hopefully move back here in the fall again.

Had some good shred lately. I forget if I posted at the session before last. Hmm. I filmed and hit some good stuff. Oh yeah, I think I did post. Anyway, I revived my challenges thread and hit like 4 or 5 things last night? There's a link: http://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.ph ... 922#308922

That's about it for now. My body is sore :?

Posted more in challenges.
I also tried for 100 guiltless tonight (inspired by Josh Lackey and Kevin Crowley). I had a bunch of 50-somes and lots of 40s. I have a hard time bailing a lot. I end up bailing to ducking clippers and spinning clippers, but I forget to take a break and do them for forever... I figured a trick that I will try near the end of the session. I will try it next time and win.

Erik,
Sorry to hear about your 'puter. Glad to hear there's gonna be tons of sick footage coming out soon-ish. Holy CRAP, the fat website is amazing!!! I was talking to jess last year about having a "Hackrifice: Foreign Legion", similar to the FAT friends thing, for our big supporters from outta town. also i think we need to update the members roster, as mark hasn't made an appearance in years, josh has no picture and jess isn't even listed. Oh and apparently there are like 4 net player at the u of m! i tried updating it before, but i fucked it up really good as i'm sure you remember. i wish i knew more about html.
also, when i tried to post my solo vid from a while back, the link ended up opening inside the scroll table of the main page (know what i mean?) how do you make it open in another window? You have much to teach me. seriously, when do you get home?

LALALALA
106 guiltless
Man, I kept losing, like, vision during the run. It was a pretty lame run. Half of it was either spinning or ducking clippers and the rest was pretty much bails... but it was 100 and it was more than just a drill!!! I will definately try to continue to do more, but I can totally be happy for the rest of my life now :D

Shred: April 18, 2007:
-100 guiltless > fog (and then some)
-rev whirl > dyno [repeat]
-blurry rev whirl x7

I think there was more, but whatever. I was stoked about the blurry rev whirls. I tried mobius x 2 a bunch. It will come soon, and it's pretty low-impact, so yay. I'm going to mostly try for mobius > spinning clipper [repeat] and once in a while try the actual combo... I also tried toebius...HARD! I felt so awkward... Yeah...some "explosive 20-some strings" like usual, which felt great and you know. Had a really awesome night -- everything has just clicked, especially beyond footbag. We played a game of pool where we flipped a coin for every single shot, and heads was shoot regular, and tails was shoot FLIPSIDE

Oh yeah...the 100 guiltless was pretty much my footbag goal, period. So...yay :D
