Block Party S%*t show

Post by Caleb »

So I felt the need to share pretty much the most insane party I've ever seen.....which occurred for no reason other than to get stupid.

I coincidentally moved into the middle of the most horrific block of alcohol induced meat heads in my fair college town. Well it finally paid off. About a month ago, I get a knock on my door and one of my neighbors tells me to prepare for "Semple Fest" (the name of my poor excuse for a street that I reside on). The plan was that every house on the block was going to put a keg on their porch and watch the people/money roll in with such strength in numbers that the police can't do anything about it. This is the type of genius that I have to deal with everyday when all I want to do is come home and go to sleep. So I said I was in. Whatever, either I'd have fun with the success or I'd laugh at them all fall on their faces when this failed..........it did not fail.

I was studying in my room until about 2PM Friday, when I noticed it start to get pretty loud outside. I openned my front door to check it out, and I'm greeted by a pair of Ugg boots in my face from some girl doing a keg stand on my porch. And sure enough, there's at least 10 kegs on the adjacent houses that I live by. I decided that studies can wait for an evening. I allow myself to become academically irresponsible every so often. From 2 until 8 the crowd grew...and grew.......and GREW. I was astounded by the power word of mouth contained as my entire street was blocked to the point that the police couldn't even drive to our block if they wanted to arrest underagers anyway. 15 of cops had to come on foot. It was hilarious. By that point there was a hip-hop band playing on my front porch (with pretty professional sound equipment); a giant BBQ grill and U-haul parked in the middle of the street stocked with hundreds of pounds of meat; and at least 500-600 people all around me. I, along with 2 of my neighbors addressed the police and I told them "Look, with all due respect. You'd have to take about 40 trips from downtown and back here to make any differance and break this thing up. Everyone is just trying to enjoy themselves before finals week."

The officer in charge just looked at the crowd, then back at me, and said "Make sure nothing owned by the city gets broken." And left us alone for the rest of the amazing night. And I was rushed to the front of every keg and every girl that random dudes claimed I "HAD to meet" for the rest of the evening, maintaining the title of the guy who saved everyone's night. (Too bad I'm spoken for, right?) More beverage kept rolling in from the distributor a half a block from my house and there were very few idiots that always seem come with any large gathering of people and ruin it for everyone.

The night concluded with a handful of my best friends in the world, chilling on my roof, while The Beats and Vibes finished their set and everyone danced in the street below us.

The 2nd Annual Semple Fest was the most insane night of my life neglecting Worlds '04 and the Steeler's Super Bowl victory. And last night wasn't a holiday or any sort of special occasion at all. I made some money, and didn't have to plan/clean-up any part of it since I am the new guy that moved in. I love life. I think I have to be a part of it next year since I already renewed my lease, though.

Oh yea, and while all this was happening, my roommate (the one that won't let me get a puppy) was locked in his room playing a Star Trek video game on Xbox.

Charge 50 bucks to get in and say "free beer". You'd make a killing!

This remindes me how much I love summers in the city. Thanks for that story, it put a big smile on my face. :D

P.S. I thought this thread was going to be about the band Bloc Party for a second, and how you didn't like their live show.

that sounds a lot like the yearly party on Aberdeen st. here in kingston. Shit has started to get out of hand though - cause word spread people have started coming in from as far away montreal and toronto for the party, and shit has just gone crazy. Last year they flipped and burned a stolen car, so the cops cracked down on them like crazy.

You're lucky to get in on the ground floor of this thing!

So apparently, there's an event called "College Fest" at Kent State where a somewhat large group of the student body gathers at College Street to celebrate the coming end of the semester. Hmm......sounds familiar. Haha.

I was going to Kent State this weekend to attend the Relay for Life and visit a friend anyway........but it looks like I'll have to drop by College St. and evaluate how they rate against Semple Fest.

And Matt: You know you'll always be the Ambassador of Fun. I just filled in for an evening. I can be the vice?
