Looking for club near Burlington, Vermont

Post by century264 »

I've been applying to colleges around my area recently, and I"m in at Rochester Institute of Technology, but I'm also in at University of Vermont. I know the Rochester Footbag Association is at RIT, I was just wondering if there are any clubs around the Burlington, Vermont area or if I would be better served at RIT.

If your decision is really all about footbag, then I think your choice is very clear. The Rochester area shred scene is one of the best in the NorthEast US, perhaps one of the best footbag clubs on this Continent. Very good shredders, fun guys, well-organized enough to be hosting a tournament two weeks from now for the third or fourth year in a row, not to mention various other events they've held somewhat more sporadically over the last few years, like a bad-ass New-Years shred.

Burlington? As much as I'd like to say that there's some kind of footbag freestyle scene up there (and I can't really say first-hand either way, but) I've only very rarely heard even a peep from any serious kicker there. No regular club to speak of, to my knowledge, and definitely no big tournaments and jams. I THINK that there's one guy from the New York City club who has begun, or will begin, to attend school there. His handle on this forum is Spontaneous Spaz, I think. Try looking him up and ask him what he knows.

Good luck.

I spent a summer in Vermont, working and looking for a shred scene. I couldn't find one there, but the Montreal scene is about an hour north of Burlington.

oh man, I hadn't thought of the montreal scene factor... yeah, 1 hour isn't a far drive to hit up sundays at the tam tam when the weather is nice. if you want something more immediate, rochester is the way to go. In fact, RIT is THE footbag hot-spot in Rochester, mainly because Paul Agostinelli goes there and hosts the weekly RFA sessions there.

I've never heard of a Burlington footbag club. I founded the Rochester Footbag Association. It kinda gets my endorsement ;) if you want to know my honest opinion.

If you're curious about the footbag scene in rochester, and you're serious about attending RIT, maybe you'll consider heading to Rochester this coming weekend for the Greater Rochester Area Shred Session, otherwise known as GRASS, which is held at RIT in the Clark Gymnasium as part of the RIT Spring Juggle-In (see the thread in Journies to Tournies for more info).

It's gonna be a hot east coast tournament, featuring some of the nation's best footbag talent, so many incredible jugglers that you won't believe it, and an absurd amount of footbag prizes!!

hope to see you there,

Matt
