4th annual Montana Freestyle Jam • April 27-29
Quick notes on this jam, personal or otherwise:
- Riley was a spectacular host, more than willing to make breakfast for 25 people
- Byrin tagged a couple of 8's, Jim "hit" a really really long friggin' string, and Daryl continues to blow everyone's mind
- If Gray chooses to be disciplined in his practice, he is going to be kicking everyone's ass sooner rather than later
- I've got 11 tapes of footage coming back home with me
I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing with the footage I've got specifically, I suspect it may end up happening like SJFF4 did. It'll probably be a Byrin and Jim show, with a separate "general footage" short. I've got a ton of non-shred footage. But yeah, Byrin and Jim. Byrin hit flurricane at least 7 times this weekend, and it seems as though Jim has resolved to pretty much never drop ever.
Unfortunately, I kinda choked in competition, and there's no one to blame but myself. Yet again, I was unable to hold myself back on the first day, and ended up taping a 3 hour barefoot session (albeit a really GOOD session). By mid-day Saturday I was ready to give my hip a rest. I was only able to land a shit-bail-style sick 3, but I did manage to throw down a quad-dex for sick 1. At least there's that.
Thanks again Missoula. I love this town.

Man what an event
A big thank you to the Missoula guys for putting together an awesome event and being excellent hosts: Riley, Jer, Evan, Kevin, Ty and Tom (hopefully didn't forget anyone). Special thanks to Riley for cooking for us every day, letting us stay at and subsequently befoul your home.
It was great meeting everyone else too, Portland guys, Canada guys, plus seeing some people I'd met at the US Open like Luis and Nick. Big thank you to Zeb Jackson for giving me a ride and to and from the considerably cheaper Idaho airport. Canadians, it was really fun meeting all you guys, I'm glad you all made it out. Thanks to Kevin R for the one on one lesson on Saturday, I will definitely be working on the stuff we talked about.
I'm glad my body held up as well as it did considering all the shred I did. I choked in competition, but then again I think part of me expected myself to do so. I shredded like 3 days in a row in the days before the competition, I should have taken it easier, not that that would have made a huge difference. I wasn't shredding to the best of my ability, but I have only myself to blame for that.
Sometimes I feel like I am pushing the progression in this sport from the bottom up. Now matter how much better I get I am still the worst player at every tournament I go to (or best case, very close to the worst). I school hard only to find out the gap has only widened more as people have made more progress than I have. It's definitely lit a fire under my ass to pratice more, smarter and harder. But on the other hand part of me is thinking what the hell am I doing, should I even bother to try to be a contender when everyone else is younger and has way more time to practice? But it's really fun seeing people like Zeb, Zac and Kyle get really really good.
Disc golf was absolutely awesome both times. That Blue Mountain course was like a disc golf wet dream. I have a ton of pics from it. I'll post them soon. Many thanks to Ty, Evan and Jer for all the tips with disc golf. I think I'm going to get more into now that I'm back and Austin has like 10 courses.
Oh and I was totally lazy about filming. I think I have a total of 2 minutes of footage. That's OK, I'm sure Kevin R will put out some totally sweet videos once he can find the time to edit all of those hours of footage he has.
Hopefully see you guys soon, definitely at worlds. Peace.

This was a great event! Good people, good times, good town. Special thanks to the MFA for running, hosting, and showing everyone a fun time. Thanks to Riley for putting us up, and to Evan, Kevin, and Jere for orchestrating such a solid event. We will certainly be back next year, Missoula is great, as is the freestyle group that represents it!

Sick3 results will be up sometime later today.
Sorry for the delay, been real busy with school it being the last week before finals.
James: Evan told me that his camera died during filming, but you would know better since you're the one that used his camera and it was working for you. I'll ask him again and force him to check.
