Even fairer, I wasn't in a 'flame war', I was just letting switchkicker know that throwing food on the ground is not a sustainable way to live.

I'm gonna keep re-posting this every day for the next year, or until you thick-headed Americans get it. Anything else I have to say on the subject is irrelevant. I just get sick of people making vulgar, obscene, or pointlessly rude posts. Of course I'm sure no one else on this forum does, and I'm the only one who thinks it gets old after a while.

Ahh, comes full circle. I admitted that I too was an 'asshole' American in my original post. I DO get that Zeb. But thanks for attempting to point out one of my flaws, appreciated.

See, the whole point is, no one likes to admit when they're wrong. People never want to think that they are 'wrong' or 'bad', they want to maintain the self-image that what they think is generally right. So when someone like big bad zilla comes along and challenges that, they immediately start saying bad things about him to make him go away. It's a common trait amongst Americans really. They're spoiled, and they can't be told that they are wrong in doing something.

Think about it. In the workplace, in school, wherever, the second a teacher or a boss says 'You did this wrong', the first reaction is to come up with an excuse to show why you were right in doing what you did.

I'm not your teacher or your boss, so you don't even have to give me that much respect. You just go 'You're the one Chris, you're the one that's bad!'

I'm just asking forum members to please try to be more polite. I'm ASKING. Lol. I'll be more polite too! What part of that message is malicious? Seriously, tell me one thing about that statement that is malicious.

I've met andy and ben both in real life. at their hearts, they are both very, very nice individuals. Andy is a talented stitcher and is getting his freestyle going. Ben is a talented freestyler and is getting his stitching going. Anything non-positive they say or do is entirely attributable to their very young age.

which brings me to my point, and what I feel is an important thing to notice and know about the footbag community and what it can do.

I was an extremely annoying teenager. i still hold some of my very annoying tendencies but I'm trying to get them under control, and I feel like I'm making some progress. A lot of that progress has its seeds in things I saw or did at footbag tournaments, or things done or said by older footbag players.

When I did something annoying or inappropriate and it was met with disapproval from an older footbagger, at first it caused me to be resentful of that person, but then it caused me to remember how much love and respect I had for those older baggers, so then it caused me to start to think that I really did have some faults that needed work, and consequently caused me to analyze some of those things so I could start to see them coming and avoid them in the future.

One time, jack lentz stopped me midsentence to tell me that I talked a lot of bullshit, and I spent that whole 6 hour ride home from East Coasts hating myself and thinking about what I'd said, and how I'd said it. and you know what? He was right, and it caused me to consider what I was saying, and think before I spoke a LOT more in the future, which I'd consider to be a positive character trait.

edit: AAAND, something I wish I'd added here, is that any positive trait I've ever, EVER been complimented on regarding how I manage my footbag jams and demonstrations has come from trying to be like Peter Irish.

So, I guess, all I'm trying to say is,

younger baggers, listen to the older baggers because they are often smart and respectable and nice, and you will gain a lot by trying to act in the spirit of their generosity and skill. unless they are crazy, like some people. crazy older baggers, you know who you are.

and older baggers, let's not be so hard on the younger ones (with posts like this). I know I've had to learn a lot since I started playing, so I can't imagine other young people have all the important social stuff figured out either. All we can hope for is that the smart ones learn from our experiences and actions, and that the dumb ones get bored and leave, and that the crazy people keep taking their medicine on time.

and, that's not at all exclusive to footbag, I think that applies to life in general.

It's clear that Chris is just rehashing an old routine of mine: Being blatantly hypocritical while acting like you're totally serious and thinking it's funny because you know and maybe a few other people catch on. I probably should have been banned many times, and it's clear that this guy is adding nothing to the forum. It makes it fun for me to see how he is following my footsteps, but if you care about this community, I think you ought to crack down.

I know this is an old debate here, one that I took the opposite side on when it was in full swing. There really is just no reason to tolerate this kind of behavior. I don't know what Ben or JRStub's did, I haven't noticed anything, but Chris is just crying out for help. If he shows signs of coming around, then on the first example of it, keep him. If he continues acting this way, boot him from Modified for like 3-4 months. If he comes back and keeps it up, kick him forever.

Maybe there could be an "ignore" function on modified, and you could just automatically not see the posts of people whose posts you find worthless. I've seen it on other forums and its pretty nice. I'd use it.

I think the message of this thread is decent (especially with commentary like the above from Matt) however the approach is terrible. Zilla if you really want to enact a change in people who browse here you have to be aware of how people will react to what you're saying. It's kind of funny to me that in several of your posts you call for people to think about the repercussions of what they post, but you've ignored entirely how others respond to your own posts.

Stating that American's are the problem here isn't productive; frankly it's ignorant. I know you believe that by including yourself in that generalization means anyone else who has been insulted by that comment should let it slide and, moreover, acknowledge it as a valid argument. But it's not a good argument it makes too many false assumptions and it's offensive.

Now I hope you don't take offense at this as it's meant to be constructive (whether or not it is isn't for me to judge). I simply feel strongly that tone and intention often trump the message trying to be conveyed. If, as you say, you truly want others to be more respectful and for flame wars to not overtake these boards then my suggestion is to begin that change through yourself.

As an aside I myself am American and my aim in most all of my posts on these boards has been intelligent conversation and polite sharing of ideas. I really hope for your sake Zilla that you can see past the unwieldy perception that Americans are the biggest assholes in the world. Unquestionably there are tons of jackass Americans and tons of polite Americans, just like every other country/ethnicity in the world; American's are just more outward (or perhaps obnoxious) about being jerks.

Everyone in the world is an asshole. It's just to what extent that you are, and to what extent that people demonize others. Ethnicity has nothing to do with how kind or how rude you are, stereotypical classification like that only helps to fuel the fire for ignorant generalizations. :?
That's the most intelligent response I've heard today. Someone that admits that people are fallible. It's just annoying when people on this forum think they're bigger than others. Henry's posted rude shit before. Those other guys, sure they're probably annoying, but no more so than half the people on here who've been here for a few years.

But really, I gotta say. The Euros not only kick our ass in footbag, but just common courtesy and consideration as well. You just don't get the asshole posts from them that you do from many of the American posters on here.

Even Setman, yeah he calls THE on half the vids that come out, but it's not done in a mean-spirited sort of way. And when you call him on it, he's like 'what, I'm sorry but I'm a stickler for form, etc.' That's not being an asshole, that's being honest.

I think that's why people think I'm an asshole. Because I'm being honest about a situation. Instead of not confronting it, like most people on modified do.
Many? I wouldn't consider you, those two, and me a lot... I mean, who else on here (Besides that douche, Jeremy, who isn't American) is a sarcastic asshole besides us four? I'm sure I'm considered more of an annoyance, than an asshole. But who knows.

Every once in awhile on modified people just go through spurts of being complete queers. Usually it is the product of a few big queers going around inciting other people to act like queers. Inciting queers who prove themselves repeat offenders should be banned outright, first for a couple of months, and then upon coming back and still being queers, banned forever.

The whole community comes together and always talks about "Oh boy, maybe if we did this, maybe if we added an 'Ignore' button everything would change". No. People would not ignore trolls because they'd want to see what the fuss is about. It wouldn't work. The only thing that would work is severe punishments. I don't care what people think about what's fair. If you want what's best for modified, then actually do something concrete like banning the people who are fucking it up.
