Flame On! Top ten US Footbaggers, 2007!

Post by Maraxus »

Based solely on your opinion, who are the best ten players in the United States playing today? If you'd like place them in order 1-10, if not, just list the names.

Here is my own:

David Clavens
Jim Penske
Lon Smith
Gordon Bevier
Nick Landes
Will Digges
Evan Gatesman
Jason Crook
Ben Skaggs
......number ten is so god damn hard, too many players to add here.

Yeah I can tell this topic could totally turn into flame city, but hey, let's have some fun. I agree with the above list but I haven't seen enough Jason Crook footage to know for sure how he measures up to those others.

Number 10 = Jose Cocolan. He needs to go worlds this year.

In my opinion, you can see hundreds of hours of footage and still not have an accurate impression of somebody's game. Footage means very very little. When I first met Vasek at 2003 worlds I was impressed by his big tricks and combos, but what I found most impressive was his consistency. That's what really set him apart as "the best" in my view. Even if he wasn't hitting such hard stuff, just his ability to consistently lay it down put him in elite class.

From personal experience I can tell you that footage lies. You can make a really killer 4 minute video if you film anybody for a week, and have them try certain tricks and combos over and over until you get it on tape. It doesn't say anything about their ability to play in a circle.

That's the main reason that I dislike these threads; unless you have played with Clavens, Landes, Gatesman, Penske and whoever in person in the last month, there's really no way to compare who is better than who. Before Worlds 04 everybody was saying that Vandall was a lock for BAP, and then he showed at worlds being inconsistent.

roger that, jk, hasn't been much footage of ben, but i can assure you he is very consistent and still improves everytime i see him. He is the one who taught me just how it is to be consistent and on both sides.
