Erik Chan wrote:Hey, I've been in a drawing groove -- I drew like three times more than I usually do, like, last night or the night before -- it felt so good!! So I took a bunch of pictures with my digital camera just a bit ago. They're crappy, and the actual drawings themselves are just, like, poopoos, but they're poopoos that I'm pretty happy with for the mostpart. I will disclaim that I've pretty much JUST started learning to draw the way I've been wanting to for years and years, and so for the 90% part of all of this I have no idea what I'm doing. Keep that in mind -- I plan to be awesome by this time next year
Thanks to Mike Faille for giving me tons of pointers and for being such a super influence!!
So, here's a bunch of sketches, or doodles, or whatever. None of this is really what I want to be doing yet -- just exercises and practice to try to learn how to draw from my head. Ahoy!
(Oh yeah, and there are, like, almost 40 pictures, and they're not really super small, so...don't sit and wait if you're expecting something great.)
This is just some guy from a magazine.
Me.
Me again, with a marker.
I think this was, like, my second, or third drawing of the year, after mking my New Years resolution (to draw every day). There's, like, a wrestler guy, and a knight, and a manly-looking girl without a shirt, and some really dramatic guy posing...
There's me again, and on the far right is Lyrisius, this hero guy with a spear that I am going to eventually draw a comic about.
A tonal drawing with pencil -- like, my first, after Mike suggested it.
Another of this girl I liked in highschool.
Another of this Japanese girl from highschool -- though it doesn't look like her.
More highschool girls and some guy in really tight clothes.
Some more highschool people, and some poses from my head that I was happy with -- the first ones, I think
Lyrisius, and my dark elf character from Oblivion. And in the bottom left you can see Lyrisius' spear going through some guy's throat.
Me, and some crappy faces above.
Tonal self portrait in pencil.
This is one of my favourite drawings that I've done!! It was all from my head (I'm really REALLY bad at faces!) and I was so happy that it looked like the same guy from a different angle!! This was my take on Mace Windu, 'cause he's so badass. Oh yeah, and there's a crocodile thingy that I drew with Marita at the bottom...like I think she drew, but with my hand, or something?
More poses from my head -- I like the bottom one.
Mobius! It's a really blurry picture... This was from my head -- I was happy that it looks so accurate for the movement..
I like the guy's head on the bottom. That was like the first time I tried to draw a face at that angle, from my head, I think..
I like this top one, but contrary to what Marita says, his hands aren't disappearing into his ass..
I like the top one again. The bottom was supposed to be Wolverine. I don't draw hair... yet, I guess.
I kinda liked the muscles on the top one, but then I messed it all up, and he looks too elongated and stuff... Oh well.
The wyrm from my Lyrisius story -- that's Lyrisius on the right; so, like, the dragon is big.
Lyrisius, like, meditating...I really don't like this one, but I did as I was drawing it.
I like the bottom pose, but his hands are in funky, contorted positions.. Well, the bottom one is. I think I like his left hand.
This is Fran from Final Fantasy XII. And on the right I tried to draw a horse without a reference, and I don't think I've ever drawn a horse before... It looks more like a donkey?
Another elongated person. There are a bunch of places on the body where I have NO idea what's going on...like hips...it's kinda really.. yeah. I'm trying to work on shoulder blades and legs (and thigh connecting to pelvis) right now... it's fun to have a theme. For a while I was drawing people from behind, 'cause that's way harder.
These were yesterdays...I liked the top one, but there are so many messed up parts...you can really tell I have no idea how to draw legs here. And my shading is pretty lame, but it felt good to give it a blind stab.
Some faces from my teeny sketchbook (not from my head)..
Some guy in, a robe thingy..
Some monster. I wanted to draw those, like, minotaur/faun legs...but couldn't figure out how they work.
One of my brothers -- this one is in my big sketchbook.
My mom.
Some heads -- I like the third from the left, on the top, in ink. Oh, these were from a 3D model reference.
More from the same ref. I like the topmost teeny one. Oh, these I did in pen without pencilling first, which is tough for me, but super fun. I tried out an Ashley Wood-esque style, and that made me feel awesome. Marita really likes the big one with the pencil overtop.
From the same ref. My Ashley Wood-esque lines...
These were done without pencil -- super tough! I was so happy with them. But from a reference again.. I really like that one spot, on the one with pencil overtop, that one highlight in the crinkle of the hip.
That pose... from, like, a Michaelangelo? Or Raphael?... I dunno.. it was from that 3D program again. Oh yeah, just in pen again...it looks pretty wonky. But it looks kinda cool 'cause it's a pretty big drawing.
This was going to be Ashe from FFXII, and I used that program a bit to help me with the pose... I never finished it.
Me. I did pencil first...and this was my lame attempt at trying ink wash...
And here are all of the comics that I've bought since, like, September... many hundreds of dollars went into this... They are all so pretty. It's, like, a blury picture again.. There are a couple little ones tucked into that corner on the right.. These are all (mostly) SUPER DUPER comics!!!!!!

On a positive note, I hope to see you Tennessee guys at WORLDS!!!
I told myself a while back that I was going to go no matter what, even if I had to borrow the money. Then reality hit me and the Tennessee trip and lack of a job got in the way, and now I've been offered a job with a good pay for a while after I get home until a while just before Worlds...PERFECT!! So I am so fucking going to my first Worlds in DISNEY WORLD!!
I gotta totally start making arrangements, figuring out costs, getting some roommates, getting a passport, saving some money...YES!! YES YES YES!!!

Hey, I've got an idea! Let's be roomies!
Peng and Tom gave me a footbag at Weed March. I don't know...I guess it's either a Peng or a Mosher -- they didn't say which, but I think maybe a Peng?, 'cause Peng gave it to me. I was so happy!!
I completely forgot what it's like to have a nice 32. Tom seemed a little silly, like, it was just an okay bag or something, but I love it so much! I played with it a bit and I love it -- it's just, like, perfect! I've been pampering it all day. I've been trying to think of a name too.
I haven't had a good 32 since, like, Trevorr Hibbs gave me one of his bags :p
I was totally just playing with it in my hands all day, and like, cuddling it, and telling Marita about it a million times. I brought it in the bath last night and it's all shampooy-smelling.
I'm very excited to buy more bags now! I've been weened off of cuddle bags, by the makers of cuddle bags themselves! Playing with FAT and using non-sand-filled bags 80% of the time helped a lot too -- now I'm not as helpless in unfamiliar circles.
Oh yeah, and it's really rad too. I said that it was the colours that I wanted too, but there's a mini-story behind it. John Bagi, Tom's newest KFM recruit, came to visit Toronto, and brought some bags with him, either that he made or whatever. I don't think I really got to play with any, but I saw him kicking one with Adam, and it was purple and pink and I was, like, gee whiz, that bag looks radical, and that really pushed me to want to have a 32 all the more. And now I have one, and it's those radical colours!!!
Thanks Tom and Peng!!!
Oh yeah, and Weed March was SICK. I kinda wrote about it briefly in the FAT blog. I guess that was probably my last FAT session
Maybe if I get my stuff together tomorrow I can jam with my best friend here in Toronto, Mike Faille, on Tuesday night before I go. Umm, yeah, I got a bit of footage too, like, a couple minutes. There are about 3 runs of Johnny and Jorden each, and they are all sick, of course. There is also a touch of Ben Roscoe (smooth as butter, and style kinda like Mikko), Adam, and Chris Dean...oh yeah, I didn't mention that Chris and Paul Agostinelli (I pride myself on being one of few who know how to say his name...kinda like Devlahovich) decided to drive up to Weed March, like, the morning of -- those guys are awesome.
Oh, since I'm writing a bit more about Weed March anyway, I feel like trying to recap a headcount of everyone who was there. Lemme try:
-Jorden Moir
-Johnny Suderman (and Richelle(?))
-Jon Haber (and photo-friend)
-Ben Roscoe
-Skippy
-Tom Mosher + Pengpeng Du
-Andrew Langstaff + Cassy Taylor(?)
-Josh Lackey (and brother, and sister)
-Mike Faille
-Camille Surovy
-Adam Greenwood
-Alex V(?)
-Me
-Graham(?)
-Chris Dean + Paul Agostinelli
-Zach Forth(?)
(+ Paul Toews)
I feel like I must have forgotten, like, just one person, or something and feel badly...but I got most everyone anyway...

I got home around 9 tonight.
It's kinda nice to be home. Oh, the thing that made me realize that the most is this couple of "signs" in my kitchen, one beside the other. It will make a funny photo. My Dad likes to, like, leave notes around the house, so he wrote this note that says, "Don't put the cutting board on the floor, keep it on the counter please."
And beside it there is a note that says, "Don't eat radishes straight out of the toilet, wipe them off first please. Thank you."
I guess you kind of need to know my one brother to get the humour, because otherwise it's not really that funny... he's very eccentric and I laughed a lot to myself when I saw it a bit ago, at, like, 4 in the morning...
I can't sleep.
I'm so tired.
I'm really excited to do fun stuff for a couple of weeks before that job potentially starts. I'll be working in the same building as my Mom, so we can carpool, which I'm excited about. I need to renew my license. Wait, I should make a todo list. Anyway, yeah...because I need to remember to, like, buy clothes and figure out Worlds stuff. I'm so excited to shred with Andrew in the next couple of days! I was laying in bed, trying to sleep, and thinking of some fun, styley combos to try out.
Oh yeah, and I forgot about that $900 cheque that I left uncashed before moving back, so that will help with the clothes-buying issue and, like, fixing my computer. Actually I went up to my room and my eldest brother had left computer parts on my desk, which is so cool. It turns out that one of his clients wanted to completely upgrade to a state-of-the-art system and was tossing his old system...so I will, like, mix and match the parts to figure out how to make mine work again...
My flight was delayed an hour and a half-ish. As I was qeueing (how the heck do you spell that word??) up to get on the plane and I heard a familiar voice behind me, so I spin around and it was the parents of one of my best friends from when I was little. They were on a stopover from, like, England and India... then I kind of had to sit down, but when we got to Winnipeg they ended up chatting with my parents a bit and it turns out that the delay was half because of some crazy woman who was freaking out about two kids playing Snakes and Ladders (the boardgame) on the plane... She was given the boot on account of craziness (I assume...).
What else? Oh yeah -- last night was AMAZING. Camille wrote about it in the FAT blog. It was like the perfect goodbye. Mike and Camille came by around 10 and Andrew a bit later. We hung out and talked, and Mike drew on my bag, which I'd been bugging him to do, like, all week and then some, relentlessly. Oh, he also brought me a hack mix that I am sooo excited to play footbag to. Then we went for Chinese, though I didn't eat any -- we got two rounds of fortune cookies. Then we went for bubble tea, and Andrew was really impressed with the place -- I don't think he likes bubble tea, but he's huge on pool. I think we each played him a game, except Marita, and we each lost him a game. My game was close, and that was super neato, but it really felt like he wasn't trying, which he probably wasn't, since he's so awesome. The bubble tea was okay (it ended up being really inconsistant at our regular place and I stopped getting it. I ordered supplies again a couple of days ago though, so I'm VERY excited to make awesome bubble tea for my brothers. Is this all still in parenthesis?...)
Oh, Camille got some pictures, and a group picture taken by the bubble tea girl. We both got some pictures of the billiards (is that what it's called?) and of, like, peoples faces. It was kinda lame, but Camille got some nice pictures, I think, whereas, like, she said in her post, I got some really good ones later on.
We decided to play some hacky, and decided that Kensington Market at 2 AM would be a rad place to do this, which it was. We stopped outside of, like, some hippy pub where we heard some nice flute music from the street. Of course as soon as we stopped to hack and hang out the music stopped, but lots of granolas meandered past and some longboarders stopped and watched for a while commenting and whatnot. It was fun, though after, like, 2 hours without braces, my knees were sad. We did some fun, really laidback stuff mostly. Umm..like that thing where you hit the bag with your hand into your foot to make it launch... and I was trying, like, cloud > knee > knee > cloud repeating, which was really fun, though I didn't get much. It was really muggy, so I got naked.
We got lots of good group photos on my camera, which are all really happy and fun. I'm excited to swap with Camille. We hacked until, like, 4-something in the morning. Camille said 4:20ish -- that's very Camille of her. It may have actually been, though... There was hugging and waving and it was sad, but probably the best way it could have happened
I'm definately going to miss hanging out with Mike every second night. I need me some Winnipeg friends, especially with a girlfriend a couple provinces over, now...
I read, like, 200 pages of Gunsmith Cats on the plane because it was the closest comic to me. It was good, but my neck got sore. Man, I was so fidgety on the plane...restless may be more accurate. I sat beside this really, like, stereotypical buff, asshole-like guy and his girlfriend and it made me feel ashamed for my gender. He was watching Ultimate Fighting Champion and he would, like, hit the guy in front of him who was watching to and be all, like, "Did you see that punch? That was awesome!" It made me cringe. I also watched a bit of that Aragorn(?) movie with big white words, "Swipe your credit card to contine watching this movie" all over the screen. Eventually it just cut out, I guess because I didn't swipe. Andrew was saying last night how great the movie is, and stuff...so I really wanted to watch it. I watched some Simpsons. I was pretty irritable due to sitting for an extra hour.
I kinda unpacked some stuff. I have 5 huge boxes that should arrive at Greyhound, like, tomorrow or the day after...man, that was stressful to figure out on the Toronto side...and bloody expensive ($70 for bubble wrap! -- The same amount for which I paid $25 in Winnipeg...) I'm very excited to organize my new comics on their very own shelf!! I flipped open my Akira books and I dare to get sucked into them again... I read some of my John Byrne X-Men Essentials and I watched some of the footage from my Tour of Toronto video... My plan for tomorrow is to sleep in (probably quite late, as it's 4:30 AM now) and then watch footage and mark down times, and catch up on some drawing (skipped almost a week due to moving stress and business). I'm also excited to get my bike and do some riding...then hopefully some hacky on Friday if, like, Andrew doesn't work night shift? Our summer schedules better workout together... Umm, I think we will also, like, watch Blood Diamonds (is it plural?) We watched Lady in the Water tonight (well, me and my youngest brother). It was QUITE bad, sadly. Then my second youngest brother came in halfway through (the radishes one) and the one that left the computer stuff is my eldest brother whom I haven't seen yet, so we plan to watch a movie tomorrow, like, I hope all of us -- that'd be fun.
My youngest brother is moving to Vancouver after his trip to Peru this summer. Alex, from FAT, also told me that he is moving to Vancouver, probably, in September for school -- I think both parties are planning to attend UBC.
This is pretty long, but also fun.
It's late and I'm tired.
I want to write a thingy about how much I love footbag, sometime.
Like, about how happy it makes me... Nothing, seriously comes close. I could cry about it pretty easily if I wanted...like happy cry. It's going to be a sad, sad day when I can no longer physically play. Someone needs to feed off of that guy's "Last video" idea and address retirement and whatnot... I don't think enough players can appreciate what they have, without understanding what it's like to be on the brink of having it all taken away. Man that video was sad. I don't remember the guy's name, but I do remember seeing his videos. I showed Marita a couple of days ago and she was all, like, "That's the saddest thing ever!", and my eyes teared up. I gotta make a video like that when I'm "done".
My armpits smell good.
Well, that's about all.
I'll play some footbag soon and write about it. I want to practice flip double spinning and mobius and osis. I plan to have a lot of slow, solo osis sessions... osis is such a bastard. One combo I was excited about, laying in bed, is pandora > same osis > far rev whirl [repeat].
I want to set up my PS2, but my cables are in one of those boxes. I guess my games are too.
I'm very excited to hook up some video input/output stuffy to my computer so that I can play PS2 on my computer in my room, though my youngest brother is excited to play PS2 also. I want to get some 4-player X-Men Legends action going on... THAT will be fun...though I will need to do it on XBox, since my PSX Multitap isn't PS2-compatible...
Anyway, I'm going to stop writing now.

Erik, it's fabulous you may be going to worlds. That bag was stitched by me but was forgotten about until after our move and we were looking at our collection.
You should see how many bags we have. This one was just not played with at all, so we thought we might as well give it to someone who'd appreciate it. It was so wrong you didn't have a 32 of your own. Keep in touch muffinman. I know Tom has a fondness for you and we both hope you can hang with us at Worlds.
I love how you're drawing everyday now. I think you may have inspired me to do the same. It's been awhile since I last picked up a pen.

Good story! I have to point out, however, that I played 2 games of pool with Andrew W. - and beat him twice.

Ooo, fancypants.
Pool is fun -- I'll miss playing that too.
Umm, cool! Yeah, we all weren't sure, but some people thought it might be a Mosher. We didn't know, so we called it Tongue (sounds kind of like Tom and Peng put together...). So, I guess his name is Tongue, but it's going to be a she, since it's a Peng. I dunno...maybe Tong.
Anyway, I had a mini session today.
Apparently Andrew called, but I wouldn't've been able to play at 11 AM anyway -- I couldn't sleep until, like, 5 or 6. Maybe tomorrow, since I am going to have to wake up early to drive my Mom to work so that I have the van to go pick up that rubber mat sample, which was delivered today, but nobody answered the door. (Wow, super run-on!) I got a little sample-sample, which is about 2 square inches, and like 1/2 an inch thick. Apparently there is a 4 foot by 6 foot mat at the post office, so I gotta get it.
I played on the front lawn, so's to cushion my impact -- it was pretty uneven and silly, but it was just for fun. Then I did some more serious, but low-impact, stuff in my backyard where I didn't feel the pressure of people watching. I did a couple neat things:
-gyro clipper > rev swirl [repeat]
-spinning clipper > rev swirl > gyro clipper > rev swirl [both sides] <--- I want to make this a repeat!
-spinning osis x 4 (feels kinda out of control...)
-osis x 22 (not my record, but I kind of concentrated and figured out the spotting and stuff, which felt productive.)
I schooled rev swirl quite a bit, which might result in raw knees later on. I should pop some ibuprofen. (I think I'm going to start taking multivitamins, maybe...? That's good for you, right?....) I still couldn't manage 2 flipside, I don't think, but they're definitely coming along...

Don't waste your money on a multivitamin that won't really do anything.
Although it may be expensive, perhaps look into getting some glucosamine and chondroitin for that knee pain of yours. If you look at the overall results of recent medical tests involving the two supplements, you'll see that there's a general trend that they have been effective in arthritic pain and have been also recommended for athletes of high-impact sports that wear on the joints.

Hmm, so it turns out that that 2-inch by 2-inch sample WAS my rubber mat sample...that's lame. I can't even tell if it would be any good... I'm just gonna ask Johnny what his is like and where he got it -- there were some complications getting it to Weed March, so I didn't get to play on it.
The package at the post office was my bubble tea supplies... I guess they just came on the same day. That's sucky. Now I need some rubber mat action.
Anyway...gonna make me some kiwi bubble tea, then I'd like to play some hacky sack if it's still bright out, after, or whatever. I got my boxes today too, so I will see about uploading those photos and whatnot. I'm stoked about reuniting my comic collections. Yessss. I had 5 Greyhound boxes, and one entire 30-40 lb box is JUST comics
