They are necessary, they allow you to catch the bag.

Definately not necesary. Read the thread I just made. I cut off my box awhile ago, and I've adapted nicely. I'm pretty much a n00b, too.
I would recommend cutting all but 1/4 inch off. Should help with pixies.

you need an area on your toe to feel the footbag hit the surface. climas practically dont have a toe box... its just called a "sweet spot".
everyone has different ways of doing things. try out as much as you can and stick with works for you.

toe boxes (on lavers i assume) aren't necessary, but many players think they help create a clean style. keep them on until you think they are hindering you, and then reconsider. i personally think its best to play with walls at least until you learn pixies in them.

that is definitely one part of the general concensus. I don't like toe walls. nathan's right about pixies, though, it will definitely keep those pretty clean if you have walls.

Personally I think cutting toe walls off early in the piece might lead to worse pixie technique. Your call though, do what suits you.
