your opinion on global warming
Any evidence to back that claim up?
Don't you find it interesting that the governments of at least 150 countries, including the USA, China, the UK, Canada, India and Australia all believe that climate change is real. Of course the evidence is very convincing, if you actually look at it.
www.ipcc.ch is a good place to start. Their reports are based on hundreds of scientific studies and come from the top scientists in the field.
How many scientific reports can you quote that deny global warming is happening?

That's not enough said. Back up what you claim please. Point me to these ultra-liberal treehuggers making up global warming.circle_kicker wrote:i think global warming is a load of crap made up by some ultra-liberal treehuggers. enough said.
In the end these so-called tree-huggers you talk about are just trying to make people more open to the choice of picking a sustainable solution over a wasteful one. It doesn't make sense that we keep taking carbon from the earth, burning them and expelling them into our atmosphere. Logic tells me that if we keep taking, our earth will run out of resources and our air will be filled with those carbon atoms that we burn.
There are sustainable ways of living that does not restrict our lifestyles considerably. We just have to be more open-minded about different ways of doing things and embrace new materials and technologies that allow us to be more efficient with the use of current resources. Sustainability doesn't mean you can't get those new flooring you wanted. In order to be a sustainable option, you would just choose bamboo that grows in 2 years instead of that hardwood that takes hundreds of years to grow for that floor. We can still have power and fuels, but it doesn't need to be carbon fuels or burning coal for energy.
No one is telling you to live like a hippie and grow your own food and make humanure and give up all the comforts of life that we've grown accustomed to. I believe that's the perception of the public who refuses to accept that global warming exists and hinders our society from moving forward with more efficient forms of technology.
Even if global warming didn't exist and it is just a warm spell that we're having, it doesn't make sense that we keep taking carbon from the earth, burning them and expelling them into our atmosphere. Logic tells me that if we keep taking, our earth will run out of resources and our air will be filled with those carbon atoms that we burn.

I dont want to get into a flame war or anything, but here it goes...
In several places around the world the temperature is actuallt going down, not up, the worlds population has risen evponentialy ever sense man has walked the earth, humans and animals expell c02, a global warming "culprit" ever think that we the humans are cause most of that c02, oh and didnt you know that the earth periodical goes through radical climate changes not caused by man ,ice ages etc., this might just be anohter one of those changes.
Hope that explains it, Al Gore is one of theos ultra liberal treehuners peng.
thanks for listening to me!, hope you ow understand

Which places? What is your source for this?circle_kicker wrote:I dont want to get into a flame war or anything, but here it goes...

Of course you are right. Here is a map from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology showing global temperature changes over the last 100 years. As you can see, while a few places may have small drops in average temperature, the majority of the world has been experiencing increases in temperature.

Source? You may be right, but don't give us facts that don't come from somewhere. I find it hard to believe you figured that out on your own.the worlds population has risen evponentialy ever sense man has walked the earth,
Animals produce very little CO2. What they produce is methane. While methane levels have also been rising, the level of methane in the atmosphere is significantly smaller than the levels of CO2. The methane produced by animals contains carbon that the animals ingested from their food. In turn, that carbon was absorbed by the food out of the atmosphere. This is the carbon cycle. So methane produced by animals is not a significant problem. On the other hand, carbon that is stored in trees and in the ground is essentially locked up forever. It is not part of the carbon cycle. When you clear land or burn fossil fuels, you produce carbon gasses that would have never otherwise made it into the atmosphere. Hence the balance of the carbon cycle changes.humans and animals expell c02,
The IPCC report takes non-anthropomorphic emissions and temperature variances into account.a global warming "culprit" ever think that we the humans are cause most of that c02,
The IPCC report also took into account all the known causes of temperature variance on the Earth and concluded that human activity in releasing global warming gasses is playing a much more significant impact on the temperature than any of the other factors.oh and didnt you know that the earth periodical goes through radical climate changes not caused by man ,ice ages etc., this might just be anohter one of those changes.
I understand. I understand that you haven't actually read any of the science, and in fact I doubt you understand the science at all. You claim that Al Gore is an "ultra liberal treehuner[sic]" but the fact is that George W Bush signed off on the IPCC report, 2000 scientists signed off on it. There has been global consensus amongst climatologists and other scientists on climate change for over a decade now. There is now indisputable evidence that global climate is rising significantly, and all the signs suggest that that rate of change is increasing. Global warming is definitely happening, it's up to us to now decide on how big an impact we allow it to have.Hope that explains it, Al Gore is one of theos ultra liberal treehuners peng.

I'd rather our civilization didn't produce so much carbon dioxide to cause another ice age, thanks. Besides, what we as humans produce is counteracted by what plants use up. But the exponential increase of CO2 in our world cannot be justified by population growth and its subsequent exhalation alone.

Us humans have also cut down the trees that balance the natural fauna co2 emissions. If I used your logic, if human populations grow, more trees should be planted and not cut down to reduce our population's natural increased emission of co2. And nowhere, in the ice core samples of tens of thousands of years, has co2 levels been as high as it has been now.
And places getting colder is because of the shift in temperate zones caused by certain areas of our oceans getting warmer. If you look at the ocean currents, you would understand why this shift occurs when a certain region of the ocean becomes unexpectedly warm. This shift then moves the typical weather patterns of certain regions to others, thus causing places to get colder, certain places to get warmer, places that normally wouldn't flood to flood, and places to have severe, unexpected and long-term drought.
If we want our civilization to continue to thrive, we need to reconsider our choices.
It's not a flame war, but you need to explain yourself better and have fewer holes in your arguments for the "myth of global warming". Right now, your arguments are unconvincing.
You can put me in the corner with Al Gore as a left-wing tree-hugger. I'm happy here with my house being powered by clean energy and fuel-efficient, well-maintained cars in my driveway. Besides, the government gives me a tax break for having all these things that makes me a socially responsible citizen. I see nothing but win-win on my part.

You should thank them and continue on with your life, perhaps with less naivity clouding your view.

Yes, temperatures are going down in some places, but overall the temperatures are going up. Its going down in some places because global warming does more than just warm up the earth a bit. It fucks it royally.circle_kicker wrote:I dont want to get into a flame war or anything, but here it goes...

Don't worry, I still hate you. You can't just make those sort of posts and not expect a reaction. I expect a reaction from almost every post I make. But I don't regret what I do, because I realise what the consequences may be before I make the post. I don't just sit around hoping people don't hate me.circle_kicker wrote:i'm sorry for starting this off, i will now shut up and keep my opions to myself, sorry for getting everyone angry, hope you dont hate me now!

and like i said before this earth has had many warm or ice ages before without humans to impact it.whos says this wouldnt happen even without us?im not denying that the world is changing, id have to be a retard, but im just saying i doubt its our fault.100 years ago they estimated that we would be long out of oil by now,and look, there is still tons of it,who says this topic wont be just as silly in 100 years?Tsiangkun wrote:I've said this before, but it bears repeating.
Global warming is a misnomer. The warming in some areas is a symtom of catastrophic global climate change. The problem is the impact of human civilization on the earth is exceeding what the planet can support while remaining stable.

Anyone who has actually looked at the facts and come to the only reasonable conclusion. You obviously know nothing about global climate change, (or anything else based on your posts in other discussion sections) so I don't understand how you so solidly believe that humans aren't to blame.apoplectic wrote:who says this topic wont be just as silly in 100 years?
