Due to having billions of similarly named spreadsheets at work, I now am in the habit of writing dates like this;

070509 - year, month, date, but with none of that slash shit. This is good because then when you sort your files by name, it puts them in chronological order. If you do it the other way around, you end up with all the 01s of each month together, and if I did it the Federated States of Micronesia method then I'd end up with all the months together over different years.

Because I use excel so much, I also sometimes think of dates as the number of days since 1st Jan, 1900 (39211 off the top of my head) because if you have a cell formatted to display the date then you don't have to write out any slashes or dots, to get it to give you a date, you can just write that number in. Sometimes when I have to write out 500 dates, I find it a lot faster to use the days since 1900 method.

edit: in a feeble attempt to rid yourself of a syllable or two you sacrifice clarity and understandability(not a word but it should be) of your language.

I already told you, in the United States of America, we keep our dates consistent with out language. Our language is efficient, allowing the contraction of arbitrary words, thus our method is efficient. Your system has 200% more syllables, not just two more syllables. Over time, these extra syllables have to go somewhere right ?

If your language is so efficient, why do you overuse the letter 'z'(ie. in the word 'Americanised', which you would write as 'Americanized'). It's inconveniently located on the keyboard and fucks up running writing.

Oh and no, the syllables don't just 'go somewhere'. Maybe the energy i've spent on those two extra syllables in "8th of may" (or only one extra syllable in things such as 'ninth of may'), added up over the course of my life would equate to the energy required for you to pick up the TV remote and/or a burger sitting by your side.

Its because z is only useful for a certain few words - such as 'lazy' in the sentence "Damn, those Americans are lazy".
