As of today I am a professional footbag player!

I got paid to play footbag! 8)

I got an e-mail about two weeks ago from one of Adam Greenwood's friends, he runs this charity hiphop group thing where they promote non-violence and positivity. I can dig it.

Anyways, they do this show where they play a little video about violence and crap and then they breakdance.. and that's about it. So he asked me to be the fifth element of hiphop: footbag!

I did my part and we all threw down. It was even filmed so like, maybe you'll get to see it soon? I will keep searching youtube, it sounded like it would turn up there.

The place we performed was so nuts, it was at a highschool and we were just one of the many many acts of the evening. I think it was called Shock Value or something.. anyways, there were so many highschool girls trotting around in various absurd getups. There's something so unsexy about the way highschool girls carry themselves. It's sucha tease because they are so almost attractive and they they say something or move and then you just want to tell them to shut up.

Anyways, I already have a toit little girl that looks like she's 12 and mine isn't stupid and naive. I'm totally not a pedophile.

The stage had a big catwalk extension added on for the night, it went out about 20 feet and then split into a T for the models to um.. pose on.

We took advantage of this stage add-on during our show. The cool asian guy breakdancer, who's name I forgot but who I had a really long and great talk about our respective cultures tonight, did some sweet explosive stuff out on the extension. Eventually I got inspired to use it too and I CHARGED out down the runway ROARING at the crowd as I ran to the top of the T. I threw down some tricks (for the record I think I dropped 2 times at the T top) and pumped out some good strings and then ran back to the stage.

The group was actually really cool and eclectic. There was the guy I mentioned, and the guy Mike that contacted me for all this, this tiny guy with a hair-lip and this b-girl. I forgot all their names I guess.

It was a fun night and totally worth my trip. Oh yeah, I guess I didn't mention but I had to take the GO train to Union (downtown Toronto) and then the subway out to the end of the line to Finch where I managed to find Mike. We arranged to meet really sketchily, it was via e-mail and we didn't really have a place to meet planned. Just Finch at 5 PM, haha.

Mike is an incredible person. He is juggling school, his job working for Rogers demonstrating video phones, running two volunteer based charity's and b-boying on the side. All the while being a nice guy and helping alot of people out.

So yeah, I got paid 80 dollars to do a little footbag on stage. It wasn't even scary because I couldn't even see the crowd. The lights were way too bright for me to picture them all in their underwear. :P

One more thing, I got a PM from NuR, I have a place to stay in Munich for a night when I arrive in Germany! Sweeeet! I propose a session! hehe
(Marco, that means that you should be in Munich June 18th or 19th!!)

Goodnight modified! :)

So I got my grades and... I graduated!

I can now say I have completed the main scholastic portion of my life's education!

Here is the scary part, I damn near almost failed!

I got 71% in the easier course where it was open book (all notes and things allowed) and... 50% in the other one! OMG! I ALMOST didn't graduate!

hahah oh well, whatever, a pass is a pass in engineering! :D

So now I can truely say that I am an engineer. 8)

World's planning has been alot of work!

It took us a shitfuckload of effort trying to find a place that was the right size and had the right things for the right price but we are finally locked into a place.

The group in my house has shifted a bunch too, the final cast is pretty epic actually.

In my house at world's will be myself, pengpeng, flash, aidan, matt cross, peter irish, seb duschesne, caro, james mccococlsogughocuhgh and john bagi. All extremely solid people. Also like.. holy shit!

For some reason flash and aidan keep pming and callling peng and i worried, thinking that the plans keep changing and that we now have five hundred people on the floor or something stupid. I thought they had more faith in us?

I went to Toronto to shred yesterday!

It was awesome!

I met Sam Neale for the first time and he was really nice and we played alot together. He bought a bag off me, my first ever hurricane spinner style bag. It was a hot ass bag too, red and blue and real sharp looking. It's hard to generate much contrast with the amaretta colours so it's nice when you pull it off.

Also, I faux picked on him and it was fun.

Also at the shred were: Jon 'the inflater' Haber, SnowBlindSloth Alex, Mike Faille, mikes brother

Most the time we shredded as a circle and a line. I commented that we must look like a 10 then.

There was very much goof offery and fun had. I practiced handstands with Jon (taught him actually) and I got jealous of his sweet big muscles. This jealousy lead me to work out on my bowflex last night when I got home. I want to build up some muscles ASAP! hehe

I don't remember any shred stuff I did that was particularly good. Oh! I did my best ever spin>gyro rpt!

At weed march I did this drill: pdx illusion>toe drifter>pdx illusion>toe torque>rpt

After shred most of us went to get food at a chinese restaurant.

Sam recomended this place to us and so we walked to it. We went in and sat down and eventually we all came to the conclusion that we weren't stoked on it and left.

Mike steered us to the restaurant that him and Erik Chan used to always go to. It was delish and we filled up. Mike shared some footbag trivia with us and told us Erik's favourite dish. (As if I would tell you though, this could be the final question in the Footbag category on Jeopardy one day)

We got our bill/fortune cookies and I had something remarkable happen. I got a fortune I have gotten before, that was interesting in itself because I am pretty sure it hasn't happened to me before. The fun bit is that it was a repeat of one of the best omens I've ever gotten and something I really believe is true:

Your hard work will soon pay off.

lol you almost failed?! good thing degrees dont say what the grade is... it just says what degree you got. props for being an engineer!! now you just gotta get a job :P

brian and i plan on taking a taxi over to your house to hang out a couple nights... but dont worry... we dont wanna sleep on your floor.

Oh yeah, and yesterday Sam asked me to hit something out of Moshing set. I rolled my eyes at him since it's actually really hard for me and I hadn't hit it in probably a year. But I gave it a few tries for him and I totally nailed a cripwalk like.. third try or something!

My dream move of all dream moves is moshing symp whirl, it's like four thousand adds and totally smooth. It boils down to two precise explosions, neat.

I want to play footbag today, more footbag!

On a gross and sorta unfortunate note, after my great day of footbag in Toronto yesterday, just as I went to slip into my seat on the train home I crunched my kneecap in a strange direction off the seat in front of me. It was pretty sore and sorta swollen yesterday but it seems better today. Still, it sucked, I hate thinking about inner knee parts being jammed in directions they aren't meant to be jammed.

I went to Markham to visit my baby pengpeng today!

It was fun!

I had to take a car>train>bus>bus to get to her, I totally nailed it too.
I hate fucking up transiting.

We played a little footy sack, I mostly played the role of mister coach man, but I also played some. Peng's form and confidence are so improved! She's been playing on her own alot and it really shows, I was really impressed and proud of my little girly girl.

Go Pengpeng! :D

I guess my problem with playing footbag with pengpeng is that it totally makes me want to rape her all the time. She's so cute! and she shreds!

I saw a few of her new bags and they were butterrrrrs and gorgeous.

I like Pengpeng. :)

Hah! I have like, ten times that or something. :P

Today I saw Pengpeng work harder at footbag than I ever have before and it made me SO happy! :D

I guess the thing that I always tried to communicate to her, but failed at for a while I suppose, was that if she really wanted to make progress then she would have to dedicate more time to practicing. She lives with her parents now and has the freedom and time to play any time she wants. Also, the location is totally sweet!

I didn't describe it before, so I will now.

We played in this nice new-ish smooth paved spot that overlooks this natural pond that her parents new house is pretty close to. There were Canadian Gooseses and their little goslings that were retardedly cute everywhere! That also means there was poop on the path, but that's okay, it's natural.

One stupid thing was that teenagers (obviously) had smashed bottles and written dumb shit like 'KITTY IS A CUNT' but like.. in 13 year old stupid scrawl. There was some glass sorta everywhere but it wasn't much work to kick away the bits that were where we were playing. Peng had the good idea to bring a broom next time, maybe even hide it there somewhere to clean up before sessions.

When I first arrived in Markham (just North and East of Toronto... I think.. right?) Peng met me at the bus stop with her bike. (named Red Hot Cherry Popper.. yep)

We went to the Peach Tree Plaza which was VERY asian, I didn't see any other honkies. There is one store there that sells all white g-units for $50 along with soooo many totally wacky and interesting shoes. Peng and I like to session shoe stores and scan every shoe and analyze bits and components and get ideas. There were some very very almost good shoes that we saw today. Namely the Reebok rip-off of the Nike Free, just like how a few of the Free models were kinda good, the Reebok was also kinda good. The toe was frigging epic! Laces were back and up where people with chopped walls leave em and there was this big long and even landing deck of mesh as the rest of the toe surface. I think the clipper was only medium good or would require the Mahood Mods to be worth using or something.

Anyways, it's always fun to keep your eyes open to know what's out there.

I also ate some strange food that was new to me, quite often an enjoyable experience! I very much enjoy new things and learning.

I had a chinese bun in memory of the totally awesome and so very greatly appreciated buns that the legendary Erik Chan gave me. It was tasty, but nowhere near as enjoyable as the ones I got from Erik. Maybe by being in his presence they were marinated in his magical spirit.

I hope the Suns beat the Spurs. Yes, I just commented on pro sports.

I'm at the computer lab pulling an all-nighter, so I couldn't watch Game 4 of Spurs-Suns, but I kept refreshing the box-score. Suns were down 12 or so in the 4th, but as I kept clicking, we kept cutting into the lead... and we won! Hell yeah! Suns have homecourt back! Keep hope alive! :D

Right now Skippy sees Tom more than I get to see Tom. I can't help but feel in loathe of Skippy.

Jealous? Yes. Especially since I don't forsee the situation changing anytime soon. The green-eyed monster overtakes me often. Tom never has to play alone.

I miss having my TomTom around. Not a 45 minute drive away. I guess I'm not helping the situation because I can't drive. Until I do, I guess I'll have to suck it up and get over it.

Did you hit that?? I don't think I've ever seen you play footbag, Peng.

I forgot how much fun your blog is, Tom.
I like picturing how spastic you must be when you write about footbag. (Like, in a good way...like how you talk...) Oh yeah, and saying nice things about me every second post is always nice too :P I have this filthy rich family friend who lives in Markham, but I never visited 'cause it's like a million miles away from downtown...

Oh yeah, and good luck with your internship! You're the best!!

Whee! Life's been great!

I've been on a footbag marathon!

I went to visit Peng a few days ago when my dad was driving out past her end of town for business. We played footbag and hung out and had fun.

The next day Skippy and Josh Lackey came and played at my house and we played for lots of hours and had fun.

The day after that Johnny Suderman came to Oakville to shred with me. Yay! Johnny is the best! He's so amazing. It saddens me when he gets down on himself, he has so many reasons to be beaming with confidence.

Then today I went to Markham to visit Peng again! We went out for all you can eat sushi for breakfast/lunch/both of our first meal of the day. I couldn't believe how much Peng ordered!! She just kept ordering more AND eating it!! What a machine!

I ate so goddam much! It is 12:47 AM and I am STILL not hungry! I napped most the evening trying to digest. Peng and I tried to play footbag after having walked off some of the food but it was hopeless, we were so sluggish and weighed down by the gigantic meal we had.

On the plus side I am having wonderful luck with mats to play footbag on! Well.. I should be more precise and say that I have had participated in a rediculous calamity of errors with them. I have now managed to buy 3 different unmatching sets of them from walmart. I have this giant pile of mats that are basically useless together, haha. Ive even gone back and purchased new ones to rectifiy the sitch thinking I knew what was up... and still managed to fuck it up. This was how the start of my session with Johnny went.

I hit a pretty sweet trick too! Flailing symple swirl! (all one leg)

Oh yeah, a really strange twist to things..... since the mats are so grippy and cushiony..... I play in LAVERS now!!!!!! AS IF!!!

hahah anyways, there are so many other things that have happened that if I really took the time to flesh it all out I'd be here forever.

Ahhh one more thing. My parents and I had a big heavy talk tonight about my sisters messed up sitch. I was pretty shocked to hear some of the crazy things she's been doing like stealing money from them and drinking all their old booze reserves. She has some really serious substance abuse issues right now... it's such a damn shame because she's so fucking smart and funny and capable of so much. We are going to intervene and hopefully turn her life around. With love and best intentions as our motivation we will do our best.

Fuck, ONE more thing! Jorden THE DESTROYER Moir is coming for a sleepover tomorrow! hehe He has a gig in Oakville on tuesday so he is coming to stay the night before with me. Sessssioooooon!

Footbag! :D

PS (yes, this is like.. the seventieth thing Ive added on after thinking I was done) I got an inspirational PM from Jan Zimmermann and it made me feel good. I was glad to hear that he was so encouraging and supportive of what I was doing. :)

That reminds me of this shark video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jr9uAGkov4
Sushi is so expensive in Winnipeg :(

Hey Tom, what kind of mats did you get that work so well? How much were they? Do they slip on the ground? Do they work outside? I desperately need some.

Hey Erik,

We got ours from Walmart. For $40-ish you can get 4 packs of 4 2 foot squares making 8 ft x 8 ft.

If you flip the mats upside down they have sweet grip with lavers. They can slip a little if you're really wailing on em but a strip of duct tape over each corner does the trick.

I wanna go ride my bike today!

I went to bed at 3 AM and somehow I am up at 8:40 AM. I don't even have a reason other than I wasn't sleepy anymore. Maybe it was the giant nap I had yesterday.

Time to start my day!

Props on your interview opportunity! I hope you are successful, you lucky duck!

How was session with Jorden?

I popped by to post this bit of randomness i found. The bold is the relevant detail:

SONAR, GPS used to locate Erie wrecks

1/12 - Lorain - A recent study tried to pinpoint the ghosts of Lake Erie — the more than 1,500 reported shipwrecks littering the lake’s bed.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources completed a study using SONAR side-scan and GPS technology to turn up possible locations for shipwrecks, according to Constance J. Livchak of the Geological Survey branch of ODNR. Livchak, a former Lorain resident, said this was the first public use of the technologies in the lake, and it resulted in the discovery of several potential wrecks. In addition, three confirmed wrecks — the George Dunbar, Amaretta Mosher and F.H. Prince — were found by the Geological Survey Team, which conducted the study using the technology, which produces an image of sound being either absorbed or reflected.
