Today was the best shred ever.

There was Me, Matthias, Daniel, Clemenz, (edit) Julian, and *spelling,* Stuff. I know I bastardized the last two names.

Anyway, I got video of some of it. We played for about 2.5 hours I'd say, and it was nice and toasty outside, somewhere around 25-30 degrees. Everyone was yearning for water, for none of us had enough to last the day.

Anyway, I think next session I won't bring the camera. I mean, it is nice for memories and the like, but it is almost just a hasstle. First you have to stop, get the camera, and start filming, and then HOPE you get a good string out of someone. And then of course, when they see you got the camera, they don't play as well as they normally would.

I got to play with a bunch of different bags, with a bunch of different people and a bunch of different styles. "Stuff", was a very good player. I had never seen him before, or heard about him. Apparently he was new to the Frankfurt area? Anyway, he was going high guiltless the entire time, and effortlessly. He was also a very good juggler, like, the 2 footbags on feet juggling.

(edit) Julian (that spelling makes me cringe) was also quite good. I haven't played with him in forever, but he was the "milk carton" guy I spoke of, who knows how many pages ago. His Dyno's are just like Jorden's, just like, a big precise shoot out, and grab the bag and make it your bitch kinda dyno. He is also a very good teacher, I have a feeling that by the next time I have a session I'll have Tripwak both sides, and to this day I have barely ever tried Quantum.

Daniel, he is a solid player. But the thing I would rather mention, is his attitude towards everything. I really like it, it is just, well, a "fun" serious if you will. Everything seems to be serious and to the point, but it isn't rude or obnoxious in anyway. Like, after basically every run, I do a hand catch. I did the same thing in December when I played with him last, but now at least I get more contacts ;) Anyway, when I was walking to the train with matthias, he yelled "Next time no more hand catches!". I mean, it is serious, but fun. Yeah. He is also a good teacher. My atomic improved 50% this time. I was turning to much, thus, getting the reverse spin for stuff like atomsmasher was using to much energy.

Clemenz, well, I'll put it this way.

Torque -> Mobius -> mobius -> footed mobius.

I seriously wanted to cry. But wait, there is more! Blurriest b2b! At this point, my level of excitement and amazement was peaked, and then I see him hit Janiwalker and blurry whirl in the same run, then he hits blurry whirl on the other side, and while FOOTing the flipside Janiwalker, he just gets annoyed.

Clemenz also has the best footbags in the world. I don't know where he gets them, but when my lavers lay on them I just hit stuff that I never do. FOR example...

4 ripwalks, b2b.
3 drifters, b2b, MIDSTRING.
whirl->paradox whirl
Torque, bsos, but a GOOD bsos.
Paradox butterfly swirl, bsos.
Atomsmasher, bsos.
Several double legovers, bsos.
Tap->Tap->Atomic legover->whatever
Blur->legbeater->something good I forget.
Sidewalk, b2b, bsos. So like, 4 of them, but both sides were back to back ones. Never done sidewalk b2b cleanly or anything before either.
12 osis' b2b.
Ducking Legover->double legover->something.
Magellan -> pheonix ->ss butterfly ->something.
Some other bsos, that I don't want to let Liam027 see...

Anyway, I had a good day. But, while comparing myself to everyone else there, my string length is absoutely pathetic. I mean, when the 'pressure' is on, I just do mild guiltless strings, a few 2 adds and a few 4 adds here or there, but I just find it so boring, and unchallenging. I like hitting new stuff.

Right now I don't have any energy, but expect a video tomorrow I guess. I wont be in it, well, if I AM in it then it will be shred from tomorrow in my backyard or something. But I just took video from everyone else.

DAMN I love footbag.

just a correction. the guy, you called zeeman, is Julian, a friend of Clemens. Zeeman, ähm, i mean Simon, is the guy with the new quantums, that we played with last tuesday at the university. got it? ;)

Yesterday was one the best session i've ever had too. Not shredwise, but we had a lot of fun and there were so many players. Unfortunately this acid-guy took daniels handy. crazy mofo :x . dabei habe ich ihn immer im Auge behalten.
Looking forward to the video of yesterday. please bring your camera again. I'm going to film a bit, too.

edit: thank you so much for making this. next time I' film you, so you're on the video you made. you're right. the best shred isn't on the video. Clemens is pure craziness 8O
I just recognized that I'm going for the same tricks every run. this must change. hopefully we will have such a session again. see you next week(end?)

I also got...

Osis->ripwalk, bsos.
(flipside) Stepping ducking clipper (ripped warrior bs here I come)
Atomsmasher->tap->tap->toe stalls->rpt(opposite side)
Quantum Legover, bs. (really low and likely crappy looking)

Going out to play again.

spinning. I feel cool, because I've never tried to do consecutive spins before, and I got 5 tonight!

Another few highlights.

Ss infinity -> ripwalk -> rpt*3
Sidewak -> ripwalk -> sidewalk -> ripwalk -> ss infinity.

I got 8 today, but only 6 for that camera.

I also got a bunch of good runs at Rubberman, but never got more than 4 complete contacts. Grr. I don't want to put any video of it on here until I can get the complete 6 contacts.

The last two days were rain, and today I just didn't play well. Cod's bag is pretty cool, it is huge in comparison to anything I am using though. I noticed a new phenominon, after playing with the dorshbag for a bit, my clipper changes COMPLETELY. Going from a hania, to a dorshbag, it is two different worlds. One is massive, poofy, and alot of (what feels to be like) lead, the other is tiny, not poofy, and filled with little rocks and lead. Either way, I'm really sad to say that I think I am gonna use the dorsh just for toe. Hey, maybe that is the reason Cod is so über-amazing at toe play? I really like playing with it with atomics, because it just feels so satisfying. And it takes up the entire toe box for pixies, which makes you do them really clean. However, since it is so much bigger than the clipper area I have, I'd rather only play with one style of bag at a time, so my session wasn't as confused as today's for the first 30 minutes.

_______
Now, a little note about feet.

I find that I am a completely different person when I am kicking a little bag, and at school or something. Not quite like attitude or anything, just a more 'inadequate" kinda feeling. When I am in jeans, non-footbag shoes, and have a backpack on and stuff, I seriously can't even imagine playing footbag. I just look at my feet and wonder "how in the world can I do that?" and I can't even believe it. I just look at myself as if I was any other person, and trying to conceptually understand all the work that goes into a simple toe stall. However, when I get in shorts and lavers, and start kicking, it is all so natural, and feels so right. I mean, can you imagine taking a person who can't around the world and telling them to do an atomsmasher? I feel just as oddly confused about my abilities when not in shred gear, as that person. It gets even weirder, because I don't really warm up to shred, I just do 10 clippers each side, and then go at it. So it isn't really like I need to get in the right mindset to start playing, it is just those magical dirty smelly lavers attatched to my feet.

I might explain my feelings about that a little clearer later.
_______

Edit.

I was talking to liam027 again, and I became infuriated that I couldn't get barfly, or PDX whirl. Due to the fact that when I open my legs to far apart, it hurts a little, PDX whirls were out of the question. Thus, I became determined to get barflies.

Here they are, in all of their THIN glory.

A "it's STILL raining?" room shred.

Highlights...But since I am on the computer, I will write the times I hit them!

osis->ripwalk bsos. Very beginning.

Fridgid blender? So, a blender, but ending in a fridgid stall. 16:55
Left Blender -> Infinity -> Left blender 17:05
Stop To watch the Jorden video that the computer popped up -> 17:14.
Admire the beauty-> 17:20
Comes up with Challenge of Blender -> diving clipper -> Blender 17:22
hits Diving clipper to Blender 17:23
Both sides it 17:24
Infuriated that I can't get it. Listening to the second song on "new zealands finest" and hear "bend over, bend over" and get thoroughly amused at the irony. Well, not quite irony, but you know. 17:27

Again. 17:28.
Pixie ss mirage berger. Never tried that one? 17:30
Stepping osis->ripwalk. Flipside. 17:32
Realizes that in the beginning of the session, all of the barfly's I did the other day did a toal on my outer thigh tendon...tries a blurriest, get's damn close. Right barfly still hurts..Damn. I wanted barfly->barfly this session. 17:34
Figures "if I can't get barfly to barfly, why not blender to blender?" 17:35
Foots it immediately. Excited as shit.
Foots it AGAIN...GAH! 17:36
Gets first pixie atomic set ever. 17:37.
Gets pixie atomic clipper (so like, an ugly dimwalk) 17:36.
Asks self to pay attention to Daniels "no hand catch" advice. Ignores it completely. 17:39
12 consecutive osis'. 17:40
Wonders if I should PM hania and tell her how well her bag is doing... 17:42.
Blender->hand catch*4, in a row. Left side. 17:44.
Blender->hand catch*4/5. First three, miss, hits five. right side 17:46.
Gets 4/4 right side, debates on the computer whether to try five.
Misses. Damnit. 17:47
Left spinning butterfly -> blender 17:48.
Watches jorden hit 20+ consecutive blenders, become determined to get 2 b2b. 17:50.
Stretches.
Feels disgusted, and wonders how the hania got so dirty in my ROOM...*blames it on lavers*.
Gets rainbow*5 (tee hee, outside kick to opp outside kick) 17:56
Feels like Erik Chan, as I do a bunch of spins and falls on bed (he had a video where he fell on a bike..)
Feel sorry for sweaty bed. Ew. 17:59
Takes out video camera for 10 minutes, examines, and realizes that my blenders look like shit. 18:10.
Watches Anz' blender video, over and over again.
Realizes I need to set straighter up, and thus have a better whirly motion.
reminds self to move to finland.
FINALLY gets a 'proper' blender, that looks better. 18:15.
Flipside. 18:15.
Foots first Dyno ever. 18:19.
*2. 18:20.
Gets off of Phone with Matthias, and then NAILS dyno. 18:22.
Foots flipside.
Stubs toe. 18:24
Foots flipside, but solider.
Seals it. 18:25.
Gets Dyno twice in a row. Flipside.
Must ask someone in Person for reference, but I think I footed pdx dyno.. Just a paradox reverse whirl, but ends in clipper, dyno like. 18:27.
Gets a SWEET feeling dyno, like, felt the cushion, spin was nice, everything perfect. 18:29.
Hits flipside, right after.
Gets blender -> hand catch -> dyno -> hand catch, flipside. 18:30.
Makes video of Dyno's, 18:33.
Decides to try paradox reverse whirls, gets right. 18:36. [never tried before]
Clipper -> alt clipper -> alt clipper -> flipside paradox reverse whirl.
I turn alot to hit them, I wonder if that is bad? 18:38
Get right reverse paradox whirl on camera. 18:41
Stop. 18:42.

I really just want to play forever. Footbag is so much fun!

Damn, I'm sweating like a bitch...

Just notices, finally this damn rain stops, and I am finished. Meh, I had a good session.

If you read this, well, you have a good idea as to how my solo sessions work.

_
edit.
Video.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 6947569501

Only the Dyno's and the paradox reverse whirl. I didn't video the left one, because in my opinion it looks to much like a butterfly.
Enjoy!

Everything looked good.

The pdx rev whirl is actually far rev whirl, but whatever, it's just a name. Cool trick!

Erik Chan is the current master of reverse whirl tricks as they are something he can do that doesn't hurt. At the weed march he was doing 'blurry' rev whirls like butter in sweet combos!

Where exactly do you live in the Toronto area?

It has been raining, and colder than usual the entire week. I wake up, and IT'S NOT raining! But wait, the winds look like they could blow over a small child...Damn. Another room shred...

Highlights so far (taking a break as I write)

Bsos'd ducking osis and diving osis in the same run.
Torque b2b.
Torque->hand catch-> SS torque ->hand catch-> opp torque ->hand -> opp torque....(daniels words ringing in my ears)
Sofa set double legover. Now, I know you might be thinking "But Jay, jumping off of your couch and doing a trick is dangerous!" I say "But reader, by couch set I literally mean throwing the bag against the couch and having it bounce off as a set".
Flip ripped warrior.

Story: I was trying to do consecutive blenders, and realized how much LUCK, not skill, it would take to hit them using my style of 'blending'...So, I went to Jorden's third record video, and noticed that I was like, well, doing them all wrong...

Bsos CORRECT blenders.

Now I've gotta walk the dog. I seriously look like I just bathed in some sort of oil, so I hope I get a really weird look from a neighbor.
___

Small edit.

Todays shred in Wiesbaden, in the train station, with Matthias.

Matthias -> Atomic reverse whirl. First flip pixie ducking. Two new tricks that, well, since are 'new' he's never hit before. The atomic reverse whirl was just absolutely perfect. atomsmasher->atomsmasher as well. And every starting move for rubberman, but only 3 contacts per attempt...

Me. -> Flip ripped warrior. twice (10 tries or so)
Barfly hand catch barfly.
footed barfly b2b.
Run with flip DATW...First run with DATW in it, and flip. I just never think of DATW as a run move, but a little kid was watching and I wanted to dazzle him..
Very close to spinning osis->spinning osis.
First attempts (that failed miserably) at double spinning.
A few Double Downs. I just, well, never decided to try them. New trick nevertheless.
A few runs of +/- 5 ripwalks.
Very close multiple times to atomsmasher->atomsmasher, using both sides to start. (And then Matthias goes ahead and nails it. Growl.. :) )

Pineapples. I went to buy some, because pineapples are delicious, and the lady asked me if it was raining. When I said that it was sweat, her face was quite nice. My T-shirt was (and, disgustingly, still is) completely drenched, except the parts under the arms where it doesn't come into contact with your body.

Goals for next weekend: Barfly's b2b, and ALOT more consistant. At one point it took me like, 25 tries to get right barfly. I just unlearned the move somehow... And better eggbeaters..And better torques.. but mainly I want the barfly and eggbeater. Wow I am rambling.

Hello dear modified. That title in itself makes me a wee bit Sad that Clavens isn't posting anymore :(

Anyway, I played today with Matthias and 3 girls from the university, and then 2 of Matthias' other friends...

I played well, barely with Matthias, but as soon as I was explaining Torque to one of the guys, I said "Matthias can do them alot better than I can" and he hit 3 b2b, instantly. Gah!

My highlights.

My second turn of the day I said "matthias, flipside ripped warrior" and NAILED it. Buahaha!
Atomsmasher->legbeater->blur (blur was inbetween footed and a seal..curses)
atomsmaher->atomsmasher
I go to one guy and say "mirages are really important.. see" and then I did..
Mirage
clipper mirage.
pdx mirage.
Ducking mirage.
Gyro Mirage.
spinning mirage.
blur.
smear.
atomsmasher.
Torque.
All with a handcatch after, but I was so surprised that I just, GOT them so easily, all in a row.
-butterfly swirl, whirling swirl, and far butterfly swirl, all in one string (dropped the strong side whirling swirl. damnit..)
Biggest and best thing.

I found out what I was doing differently with my strong torque against my flip. Wasn't turning enough. As soon as I realized this, I hit a bunch and all were ALOT cleaner.

My blenders suck.

I am not done my shred day yet, just came in for some water, and here is what has happened so far.

-The mini I made is fantastic. I can play with it like any other bag.
-I thought mini's were unusable before.
Barfly->Barfly. starting from both sides.

Anyway, the real reason I made this is to shout out "I'M LIKELY GOING TO WORLDS" YES! I am in complete suspense for Sunday, when I get a call from my parents again and then my dad will have the final word. I am so damn excited! Last night, all I dreamt about was worlds, here is basically how it went.

I brought a mystery person with me, presumably a 'noob'. We got to Florida, and right out of the airport magically the entire site was right there, and it was basically just a massive open area, enclosed by buidings and the like where people were stitching, shredding, and barbequeing. I just walked around in complete awe the entire time, just going to my 'friend' "Hey, there is this person" and a few people that I remember pointing out were Holly, Tom, David, Mats, and Felix. The weirdest thing about it was, I just went there, looked at everyone, and then had to go back without even saying hello to anyone.

Anyway, while laying in bed this morning I was just thinking of all the things I had to do for worlds, and thinking about what song my routine would be to, who I'd be staying with, how I'd get everywhere, the possibility of flying with someone I knew (..jorden?) how much money I'd spend, if I'd buy new lavers beforehand, and just about where my game would be by then...

If I find out on Sunday that I can't go, I'm gonna be pretty bummed..._

_

End of day edit.

Out of 50 barfly's, going Left attempt -> hand catch/pick up off ground -> right attempt *rpt, I got 19. It was really annoying, because I probably footed 35 of them.

I fooled around with some short strings, really trying to encorperate osis' and this little mini bag is like, my best bag for osis'. It just never drops, ever. I am thinking of sending Janis one and seeing if it is just me, or if the bag has some sort of magical osis power.

I was really tired, and didn't bring a water bottle with me, so I said "I'll end the session when I get eggbeater->hand catch ->opp eggbeater -> hand catch,*rpt, and well, within 5 minutes I got it. I figured 4 hours of shred was good enough.

Now here is my rant/thing about endurance.

Earlier in the year, I ran. I ran for about 2 weeks, and I ran about 10 kilomters each time, under and hour. So, a hilly rock/pavement/grass terrain, I'm assuming that on a nice flat track I'd run more than that. So, the weather started to get worse, and I stopped. I tried the other day, and I said I'd do 5 kilometers, just to see where I was at. The run sucked, because I ran beside a girl with a bike, and I couldn't go at a nice easy slow pace, because of the lack of effort on her part, so I ran 5 kilometers just under sprinting pace. That surely didn't do my legs good, but I did it. So anyway, then in Gym class we had to run again, and I was heaps and bounds better than everyone else, no idea what my time was, but it didn't take any effort at all. Even the sprint run, I didn't break a sweat.

So, if I can run any length that I want, at a respectable pace, why in the world do I sweat and breathe so hard with Footbag? I can eat oreo's and drink milk, and go for a run and don't feel anything. However, a day like today, if I eat a big lunch, I am stopping for breaks after every 30 seconds. I don't understand it, I know footbag is more technical than running at all, but sprinting 5 kilometers and barely sweating at all, and no stops, how in the world is it that my footbag endurance is so terrible?

The person who answers that and then I work on it, and after a month it works, gets a free bag and something else really cool that I'd have to decide depending on the person.

____________

Maybe this post is long enough to not edit, but actually make a new post. Meh.

Matthias, hot as weather shred.

We went to the rhein to play, ALOT farther than we normally do, but it was good because we were surrounded by fancy looking restaurants and business' with alot of people outside drinking beer and taking their children around. One older guy went to Matthias and said 'If you can move your feet like that I bet you could be a really good waiter at my restaurant' or something, and gave him a card. Then a bunch of people watched, and a dad and his kids stopped by and asked some questions about how long we've been playing, if it was a real sport, etc.

Highlights...

Barfly->Barfly,
Barfly->osis->ss clipper -> barfly -> osis.
Ripped warrior left*34656
Ripped warrior right *4234
[I was trying to get them b2b ;) ]
Spinning ducking osis bs.
Spinning ducking butterfly bs.
Pheonix bs, almost bsos (I tried about 4 times..)
Sidewalk->ripwalk->sidewalk->ripwalk.
Eggbeater->dimwalk
Eggbeater -> infinity -> sidewalk -> blur ->whatever->atomsmasher.
Atomsmasher->legbeater bsos,
Buncha torques.(and a bunch of crappy ones)
Eggbeater bsos.
Spinning ducking legover.
Spinning legover bsos.
Spinning ducking torque
[the above trick was a complete lie, that I tried a few times...]
Runs with Magellan -> dimwalk -> PLO,

Overall today I was hitting longer strings that usual, but they were really just baily type moves and then something a bit harder.

Highlights of the days shred (commencing at 8:30 pm,)

PDX whirl -> hand catch -> opp PDX whirl.
(little later)
PDX whirl -> Osis -> infinity -> PDX whirl -> Osis -> infinity
(little later)
Pdx whirl b2b.
(little later)
6/10 PDX whirls left.
(little later)
My right knee got a little hinged on one of them, so I took it easy.
Did some nice strings without whirls...
(little later)
mirage->infinity->barfly->pdx whirl.

Barfly->pdx whirl? That has to be one of the bigger highlights of my [short] career.

So, I say "ok right knee, I'm getting you" And I go for about 20 PDX whirls, none of them really go. So, it got the best of me. I walk home, and say "You know what,right knee, I'm trying three PDX whirls and then I'll quit"..
1st try bounced off my calf...
2nd try was sealed but the release was a little iffy.
3rd try was glamourous, and like, perfect.

Finally pdx whirls are at my command, Matthias (assuming his internet connection is still down) is going to be SO surprised next week. A few days ago with him I tried about 10 pdx whirls, and none of them were close, and I asked him about his and he can really only do it strong side. So I hope I can just walk up and nail it b2b for him.

This post is dedicated to the awesome video Liam027 made for me on pdx whirls. Helped more than Anz' somehow 8O

Every trick except the paradox whirls I learned today.

I can get blurry whirl strongside no problem, but I am really rushed even as I am making this post. I also got pdx drifter today as well strong side, but only threw on flipside for the video.

So lets see, that is 6 new tricks learned this week?

Blurry whirl.
Vortex.
Toe Drifter.
Paradox whirl.
PDX drifter.
Ducking paradox whirl (only one side, so I don't count it ;) )
Spinning paradox whirl.

Cool.. Damn, I'm already late. BYE!

Today was also amazing, played with Marco Matthias and Julian for the most part.

Marco - AMAZING! He had alot of bags with him, and they were all really good. I ordered one as well :) He was comparable to me in skill level, but alot better/consistant in alot of respects. It really sucks that today was the first time I played with him, but hopefully I can play with him again before I leave. He was very nice, and had no problem talking with me about anything. The first thing I said to him, because I was really excited, was "Hey, can I buy a bag off of you?" and well, mental note for next time, that is probably not the best thing to say. Either way, he hit some sick stuff, stepping ss double down, stepping paradox dyno, and a few handstands here or there :) After I saw him hit a handstand with the bag behind his neck, immediately I asked him to hit moshers tail, and he was SO close to the release!

Matthias - TOwards the end, he hit some of the best runs I've ever seen. Lots of 4 adds, and even a PS whirl and Mobius in a string. I can't wait to shred with him alone again, so I can see if he'll play that good again.

Julian - My GOD! Motion -> Motion -> motion? Double blenders and whirr's galore? Quantum set paradon?! He has gotten alot more consistent even since the last video in April I made, which he mentioned he found on Google video just a few days ago :)

Me -> Today was good. I learned two new tricks, Blurriest *both sides* and, wow, I forget the second. Anyway, I got blurry whirl and blurriest in the same string, and Marco got it on VIDEO! Muahah! Hitting blurriest both sides today made me really happy, I think I jumped about 4 feet in the air and let out a little war cry. I've never really tried them, but they are just such an awesome move. I got paradox whirl to blurry whirl, and blurry whirl to paradox whirl. It was funny, I asked Matthias what I should try and hit before I leave Germany, and he said "Blurry whirl to blurry whirl" and without thinking I said "But I'm gonna hit that next weekend :P". The good thing is, I actually think I'll do it. I also hope I can get blurriest to blurriest next weekend as well.

overall today was just awesome. IT was a relief to know that even after my first impression with Marco was crap, at the end it really felt comfortable and friendly with him. Just telling jokes, or saying stuff that you normally would never think of saying with someone you've never met before. I guess that is exactly the reason that Footbag tournaments are so awesome, because Footbaggers as a whole are awesome.

This whole German thing is really nice, because the entire time I talked in German, even though Matthias and Macro can speak good English. At the end, we were talking about Modified, and Marco asked me "Should I say that in English or German" and I said it didn't matter, and he said it in German. It is really a confidence booster, to know that he thought I was good enough in German to say it, not in English.

My host-parents just got back from France, and they brought alot of Champagne with them. So if this message is incoherent, blame it on their stuffing me full with Champagne.

God I love footbag. The entire bus ride home I was smiling, thinking about how lucky I am to have found such cool people to play with. No where else [in my experience] can you find people that you just automatically relate to, and feel comfortable enough with to actually be 100% yourself. I mean, if I skateboarded or something, and hit a new amazing trick, I doubt I'd jump up in the air and scream smiling the entire time, just because of the uncomfortableness of the people I was with.

Jorden/Matt Cross/Tom Mosher: In general footbag conversation, each of you were mentioned about 30 times today, from either Me Matthias or Marco, so if you didn't know, you guys I guess could be considered Celebrities in the Footbag world. Enough so that a bunch of people a continent away speak about you like good friends.

Really, I hate you for not letting me any chance to catch up with you :lol: lol, kidding of course. I really have to give you props but I don't know which one is the biggest accomplishment so I'll just give you some for you overall footbag progress!

We REALLY have to play together this summer! The sooner the better! Maybe I could take the train from Montreal to Toronto, I'm sure it would be lots of funs!
