Ken,

Thanks for the post. I hope your hip & ankle heals up!

I had a 2 hr 45 min solo session last night at founders park right by a youth center. Yes it is good to have solo sessions as Ken noted in his blog. I just went for longer runs mostly & once in a while I would work on some trick to a hand catch. My runs still feel repetitive tho. Now my ankle hates me now. I really have to watch the way I plant on certain tricks that get away from me. I wish it would get better.

midlights:
-long tiltless runs throughout - 20+ & a few 30+
-put in more 3's & few 4's in my tiltless runs! Yeah!
-good legbeaters, dlo's, torques, drifters, dimwalks, dyno's, plo (3 in a row. I got 4 or 5 before). even flipside was doing ok.
-sidewalks. flip is still pogoish. argh...
-atom smashers seemed ok. 50/50 with atempts & actually hitting the trick
-weaving clips bs. Flip still felt weird but it will come along
-spinning clips & gyro mirages all over! Yeah!
-great paradons!
-a few blurs & ripwalks only on strong tho. :(

Now I am pretty tired today. It is a good tired tho. I felt like I accomplished a lot. At this park I get a lot of people watching & a few people ask questions or say you are good. I stayed a bit later then I wanted to because a kid wrecked on his skate board & the police, fire, ambulance, & chopper was there so the parking lot was all full. He must have hit his head pretty hard. I noticed none of the kids wear helmets or anything. When I rest between tricks I look up & watch some of the kids hit tricks & whip out now & then. I always think to myself I am glad I have footbag because it is less dangerous. They flip there skateboards over & just miss the side or the wheels. I think, land on those & bam you are down in pain or even worse land on your head or rack your nuts on a railing. doh!

I will take a few nights off to let the ankle rest again. I was thinking on trying icey hot or something to see if that helps. I have kung fu on wednesday. :D On a flat side note: taxes... argh.. Ok back to work!

later..

I was in a weird mood yesterday so all I wanted to do was kick & then relax & have some good alone time. I am sure people need that now & then.

I had a pretty good 1 hr 45 min session. I tried a different park by my house. I found one with a basketball court which usually works out ok but this time the lights sucked. It was right by a play ground so I had to watch out for the kiddies. The park also had many baseball & soccer fields. The only audiences I got where a few parents & kids. I only got one comment from a kid says you are good. :D I have my moments. I just worked the usual.

midlights:
-45 contacts of clip>op butterfly rpt
-20 + alt clips & osii's
-15 infinites. They where on then off... damn flip. Need to close the hips more.
-flip torques, flip dynos.
-plo 4x. Getting better. Still hop to the lo. Trying to work on that so that it will be easier for all the other pixie moves that can be done.
-legbeaters, dimwalks, smears, taps, ducking pdx mirages all bs in a sparate runs :D . need more variety & longer guiltless!

BOP is getting real easy. Ok not that easy since I can only do abt 15 consistent. I will kick today for a few hrs & try to see how many ave bop's I can get in 5 or 10 trys.

Oh yeah my bag is almost completely dead. It has many holes in it I need to repair. I have 5 new bags I am breaking in. One I kick with to warmup every session & the other 4 I am juggling & massaging as I watch tv every day!

NTS: get more sleep. 6 1/2 every night for 4 days in not enough for recovering from kickin & kung fu.

Ok. back to work... later........

I had a killer session at founders park over by my house. I didn't get there till about 6pm. I kicked for about 3 hrs & 15mins. Whew! I kicked for about 2 hrs on my own. I got a few questions for a basketball player that I met last friday. He plays soccer a little too. He asked how do you do that so I explained the basics & did a toe stall with his basketball on the second try & held it real long without dropping it. Then he went back to playing basketball after about 10 mins. I guess he realized this would take to much work. Another guy that was playing basketball on the other court walked by & said, your good. I mean really good. 8) I have my moments!

After a few hours a high school kid, named RJ, was watching from about 10 ft away. I noticed & said hi. He seemed interested so I started to show him the basics. After about an hour one of his friends showed up. His name was Justin. They kicked for about 1 hr 30 mins. & they kept their enthusiasum the whole time. RJ got toe stalls on strong many times & a few on flip. His basic kicks were ok at the beginning & by the end started getting more control & using all his kicks. Justin looks like a linebacker & was doing pretty good. He got a few toe stalls & started to realize, after some pointers, that he had 2 feet. I gave them my cheeze business card that I made up & a freedom flyer with Penske on it. I will try to do a demo at their high school soon.

It will be nice to get a group of guys out by my place too. The great thing is they are young so by the time they are in there early 20's they will be animals if they keep practicing. Also Kevin finally called & won't make next friday so I will have to kick with him Tuesday or Wednesday at Founder park. Maybe RJ & Justin will show up.

As for me I had a good session with a lot of strings & some trick practice.

Midylights:
-more spinning clips, gryo clips, dimwalks, legbeaters, DLOs (3 in one run), smears all bs in separate runs.
-flip dyno's & flip drifters many times. coming along nice. need to turn on dyno & get the leg up higher to open the window for the drifter & then they will be perfect. :D
-a lot of DATW (i-o) practice & paradons
-many whirls & rev whirls bs.... :D

The last few sessions I finished with some 2 bag juggling. It is really coming along on the right toe. I get about 6 or 7 cycles. Need to work toe to toe. Not sure how to transition.

Glendale or Temp shred next friday. I have to go visit the wife up at school. More driving argh...

I had about a 2 hr session on Tuesday afternoon at Founders park near my place. I wanted to meet Kevin there since he emailed me twice & called & left 2 messages to make sure I know what days he could kick. Damn! Nice to have that enthusiasum.

I kicked with kevin for about an hr. & took it light since my knee was a bit sore & my ankle is bugging me. I just kicked, did a few small strings & worked a few tricks for that whole hour. The last hour I worked on combos & a few runs. I didn't want to over do it since we will have a friday Unity session!!!

lowlights, midlights, semilights:
-39 contacts of pdx mirage> op butterfly rpt
-38 contacts of clip>op butterfly rpt
-good legbeaters bs. Need to stop rushing my butterfly on flip. It is like the old butterfly I used to do. geesh!
-a lot of drifter work. Finally hit flip drifter>infinity 2 diff x.
-diving clips many x bs. these are getting much better.
-datw & paradon practice! yes!! Still rush out of the butterfly on paradons so I can't go into infinity.
-smear>Plo bs. Trying to work that as a drill so I can rpt.
-PLO 4x! Still with a hoping LO. Want more downtime LO.
-flip ss butterfly felt just like strong side! YEAH! :D I can get like 2 or 3 really consistent now!! :D :D

My ankle is sore today so I will rest for the next 2 days & ice, rest, & massage! Then I will be ready for a killer session on Friday! There are a couple of kids who wants to check out footbag. Hopefully we can represent! Ok. Hopefully I can since the rest of the Unity crew already can!! U guys are good! 8)

The Unity crew had a session up in Phoenix for about 4hrs 30 mins. I was hoping a couple of guys that I have been emailing would show up. No luck. However, Tyler came back out to kick along with Josh, Conrad, & myself.

Tyler was doing good. He hit mirages bs many times, atw on one side a few times. He also hit LO 2x. His toes stalls are looking better too. Oh yeah hit hit clip a couple x too on one side. He is coming a long. He lives pretty close to me so we will try to get together & kick more often.

Conrad was doing ok even tho he hasn't kicked in 3 weeks since he is busy with school. He did hit fairy ducking & had a few strings & his normal drills.

Josh was doing great. Hit still hits big tricks & is stringing more together. He also hit more new tricks everytime he kicks. I guess that is easy for a man of his caliber. He hit some many thing check his blog..... pdx torque, 10 ducking clips... nice! Work on BOP & long tiltless. This way your runs with get up to 20 & 30 with your big tricks in there!! I guess we are going at it differently since I work on the long runs. Ok I can't hit any big tricks. haha...

As for me & was doing ok. I took it easy for the most part since my ankle is still a bit sore. Tried some new combos. almost hit smear>atom smashers on flip. smear>terrage off the foot

midlights:
-clip 5x>op clip 5x rpt about 75+contacts. I lost track. argh..
-alt clips 28 weak....
-a few good runs....

I need to ice the ankle more & take the week off. that sucks!

4/3
Had an hour session to check out the ankle. I most kicked & did some inside stalls. I want to keep my flexiblity & my stamina up.

lowlights since it was a light sess:
-high kicks of 223 & 268. had about 8 tries total with several in the 100's. not really good but my ankle is sore (page 100).
-inside stalls highs of 67 & 41
-25 consec mirages to hand catch bs.
-21 consec LO. too me several tries. Can't get the 25.
- a lot of swirl practice. still can't get 2 in a row.
4/5
another light hour session.

lowzies:
-high kicks of 345 & 528
-high inside stalls of 117 & 112. good for the flexiblity!
-swirl practice....

ankle was still sore so backed out of fridays sess. Sorry guys! Maybe next friday!

Another light kick last night for a little over an hour.

lowlights:
-900 consec kicks. At least I can kick ok. How many kicks (licks) does it take to break in a new bag (get to the center of the tootie pop)? That line really shows my age. haha
-2 add practice. mirages & clips. I keep working these the last few sessions.
-some ducking clip & swirl practice
-high of 70 inside stalls

Ankle is still stiff. argh. Ever since I sprained my right ankle back in late 2004 the flexiblity is just not the same. I keep aggravating it so it never seems to get better. It also seems like I can crank the ankle a bit but the heel is still higher then the toe. Weird. It really shows in the clip position. My right knee flares up now & then too. Ok enough crying about my injuries. :(

I kicked for about an hour again last night. SOS. Just worked some tiltless & BOP. My ankle is still pretty stiff. The flexiblity sucks. Injuries SUCK ASS! I was pretty tired too. Been busy with other stuff so I have only be getting less then 6 hrs sleep the last 3 nights. It does help that my sleep apnea kicks my ass.

Well progress at my age is slow. I will just keep at it! one add at a time! I will kick again tonight & then decide if I should kick on Friday. I should tho. The crew needs it every few weeks. Ok I know I do! Too bad the youngsters Josh & Conrad make me jealous with their great shred. The sick stepping, pixies, torques, spins.... ahhhhh Things to adspire to!

The new bag I got from Lucas broke a stitch. Argh! It was slowly starting to break in. Ok next. I have another Abshire that I will break in. To bad I wasted all those kicks on a bag that just came apart. So now I will massage the bag & kick a lot to break it in faster!! I need a back up! OK back to work!

Finally have a chance to post.
4/11 had a session for a little over an hour. Mostly worked tiltless combo's & BOP. Just checking the ankle!

-blender bs

4/13
Unity session for 4 1/2 hrs. It was Josh, Conrad, & myself.

Josh was doing great. Big stuff all day. bigwalk, spikehammer, etc.... Check his blog.

Conrad was doing better then he even thought he would. Pixie stuff & a few drills. His legs were tired from running on wed night. He needs to kick on his own more often. hint hint.

As for me.
highlightes:
-blender bs again. strong is getting real consistent
-barrage several times on strong side. flip no luck
-butterfly>dyno>butterfly>blender>(butterfly?)...
-butterfly swirl one side.

overall a good session. stepping is still to hard for me ankle tho. My ankle & knee feels pretty good today. Legs a ok too! Yeah! Be nice get my shred up to a higher level. I need to kick more/better!

Looks like I will be going to LA from May 10th thru May 16th. Net & freestyle with the OOPS club just like old times!

4/15
Had an 1 hr 15 session. I just worked some 2 adds & BOP. Nothing real exciting. Ankle was still stiff.

4/17
Had a 5 hour session with Josh & Conrad.

Conrad was doing good. He was getting back to his normal self. A lot of drills & combos & a few new moves!

Josh was doing great. He is an animol!! Bigwalks, ducking, diving, rips, etc. His game has stepped up. His runs are getting a bit longer & more consistent. Must be more fiber.

As for me I was doing alright.

highlights:
-tap>atom on one side
-several 30 + BOP's & tiltless runs
-smudge
-a few magellans
-a few rips bs. To bad it hurts my ankle to much. Can't practice it, yet!
-a lot of clean atoms

I need to work on fairies. Josh gave me some good helpful hints. I also need to close my hip on flip butterfly otherwise I drop it to much. argh.... maybe kick tomorrow night!

Had an hour 1/2 session last night (4/21). My balance felt all messed up because I was so tired. It sucks working. I need to when the lotto or get things movin! Then I can really enjoy things without burning out from a job. I really didn't work on to much last night. I adjusted my warmup a bit so I could work more on consecutives. I try to get 25 in row of clips (ss & concec), mirages, LO (dwn x), illusions, atw (both directions) w/ a hand catch in between. I fugure this would help me out some more w/ the basics. I also worked BOP (mainly flip butterfly. Still trying to fine tune it. I want to be able to get 100 infinities easy!). I did some tapping mirages & smears. I can get 2 in a row of each on strong. Flip still has a ways to go. Funny thing is flip pixie is very high. Can you say Phoenix! I will prob kick on Tues & wed for a while. Have to take tonight off since my ankle feels weird again. Damn!! I ordered this cream to see if that would help out the ankle to heal faster. I sure hope so. I want to get back in shape for when I go to LA.

ok. later all....

Kicked for abt an hour. My ankle still is sore. WTF! I thought it was getting better. It must be from the boots I wear at work. Also it doesn't help when I have to stand on my feet for most of the 12 hour shift. Well that is when I have something to do. Start up is fun! I need to retire already. I will take it easy for a few weeks so that I am able to kick when I go to LA.

had a great session last Sunday 5/13 with the OOPS club in Hermosa Beach, CA for about 4 hours. It has been over 3 years since I kicked with them. It was Greg Grandy, Sam Gregory, Chad "Big ADD" Devlahovich & myself. It was a long afternoon. We had some great rallies. We have improved so much compared to when I first started with them in 98. Damn! I have to make it back there some time soon! It was weird. We played doubles the whole time & switched teams. I only won one game. How sad is that?

I didn't have time to freestyle with Chad. Damn! His knee is bother him & my ankle so it was probably not the best time. I will take off a couple more weeks & then see how it feels. I really want to kick but I know I should take the time off. I will come back stronger & get to the guiltless stage finally!!!!!!

Wow it has been a month and 1/2 since I posted. I am still taking some time off for my ankle. I am sure I will be able to kick at worlds. After the 4 hours of kung fu, 4 hours of footbag net on May 20th and then working with my safety boots on for 12 hours several days a week my ankle needed the rest. I got rid of the safey boots and now can wear tennis shoes so that has helped. My ankle is stiff and sore still. It is aggravating. I miss kicking so much.

Luckily I have been working on something to keep me busy that is changing my life, my family, and friends. Soon everyone will be hearing about this. It will take time though. I am doing my best to tell everyone I know about it. There is just not enough time in the day.

I will maybe try to kick in a few weeks. I don't want to come back to soon and reinjury my ankle again. I am sick of just sitting around.

I also have to get ready for worlds. I will compete in intermediate net and freestyle if the times permits. The 2 schedules over lap. anyway I better get back at it. That was my jumbled up update....

Dude, I'm so stoked you're going to Worlds! Let's definitely shred, and I'll try to make it out to watch one of your net games too. Hope our ankles feel better by then.

ken,

Yes I was stoked too. I would love to kick! But...

I have decided not to go to worlds! :( Yeah I know. My ankle is slowly finally getting better. I think... I don't want to over do it, I won't be in shape for worlds, and the money is a bit tight so that is my lame excuses. To many other things going on. Priorities I guess.

On a better note. It looks like we have a new shredder in AZ. I haven't meet him yet. Blake hit ripwalk already. Damn he will pass me up soon. Seems like Josh is kickin ass! Conrad is doing good too. He just needs to kick more! Sounds like I just need to kick!

Maybe one more month! Argh....... :( :x

Wow it has been a while since I posted. Ok. I kicked today for about 40 mins in the sun. I mostly kicked just to see how my ankle is feeling. It is ok just to kick but once I tried some mirage I could feel some soreness. It felt so good just to put my G's on and kick. I also did some toe stalls. I did not take a chance and do inside stalls or clips. I will continue to play (just kick) now and then just to start getting my stamina back. Good time to break in a couple of more bags too.

I have been playing barefoot a little now and then after I lift and do my situps. I play on carpet with the foam interlocking panels on top so I have good support. I was only doing knee kicks, fairies, and pixies. I would get about 5 to 12 knee kicks and only do one fairy or one pixie at a time just so I won't mess up the ankle.

My Chiropractor said the my ankle moved more this last time he adjusted it. That was on the 23rd. He said maybe a few more adjustments. It seems like it is taking forever. It must have been way out of wack. It is feeling so much better and so is my shoulder. This downtime is actually pretty good for me since I have been working strengthening my back and core. This will definitely help me for later. Also I have been reading a lot and staying busy with my business.

I am still dealing with some personal things but on a good note it is good to feel better and have more energy. My sleep quality still sucks but is getting better. Such a great improvement from 4 or so years ago.

Too bad I missed worlds. I will go some year. :D It is all about priorities. Ok and a messed up ankle. I read some of the fblogs and seen most of the world's vids. It looked like a great time. The freestyle is so insane. It looks like everyone stepped up a level. I heard the net was the same way. Damn. Well that is about it for now.
