Stuck at the 3-Adds. Need advice!
Stuck at the 3-Adds. Need advice!
Like it says. Im stuck at the 3-adds. Ive hit a couple of them: Osis, Butterfly, Ducking Clipper, Paradox Mirage and Pixie Mirage. Im working hard but still i get the feeling that im far from doing them succesfully. Wondering, did anybody have the same problems? Where 3-adds hard to learn? And if you have any advice, please post it or show me a link.
Thanks for the answers in advance.

learn LOTS of other basic components, pickups, legovers, ducking clipper, spinning clipper, gyro clipper, around the world. then, once you've got those all easy on both sides, start putting sets before them, such as pixie. you can also start to learn other new uptime components once you have your basic downtime components.
the more components you learn, the more stuff you can throw together to make new moves that warrant recognition by higher add values.
if you work your basics really hard, then next level will come more easily than if you try to get to it too soon.

One thing that help me to get the hang of easy threes is working on simple
repeat combos of 2-4 moves . Dont stop when you hit pixie mir>butter>
pdx mir back to back - try to increase the number of repetiotions every
time you play. When you have a good feeling about a combo after a bit
of practice, throw in another trick, change the order of the moves ect.
Another good thing for a better consistency are consecutives of the same
move . For getting a good variety and form, do what Matt suggested :
drill sets and basics on both sides and you will be surprised about all the
new possibilities to have fun and looking good doing so !
peace.

3-adds are called "guiltless". Going completely guiltless is pretty hard so don't stress out. It usually takes year(s) to attain that status.
As for being "stuck" on 3-adds....have you looked into sets like pixie or stepping? There are some pretty easy 4 adds like ripwalk or dimwalk. If you have butterfly really consistant you should be able to hit those in no time.
Shred on!

Learn to love 2 adds. Even if you can hit them cosistantly, you can still work on cleaning up your execution and learning how to do them with less effort. Less effort is key. Paradox mirage and osis are much, much harder if your clipper isn't correct. Work towards string length rather than add count. After a while you'll develop plenty of coordination from practicing just 2s that basic 3s will seem like cake. It'll happen, you just have to have patience. It seems slower intuitively to practice 2s to get 3s, but you save yourself the trouble of realizing down the line that your basics suck and you gotta go back and relearn them. Same goes for each skill level threshold. To help make 2s less boring you could use my combo generator: http://www.modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=15986

Thanks for all the tips!
Yesterday I hit one DATW. Today I hit 6 of them, 4 in a row
. And I've hit Dimwalk several times but thats my only 4-add I've hit. The day after I got the first tip I started to train my left leg for ATWs and left side Butterflys. The 3-adds are starting to get easier now to learn but still there is way to go.And again: go ahead, just post more advice if you got any.

Well well... Some time since i first wrote this topic. I don't have the same feeling of being "stuck" now, since I've been practising some basics too like legovers, mirages and pickups. One thing I still find hard to do is left foot pixie (sometimes the right too) because the bag gets stuck between the "walls". Just about practising though...
P.S mosher I knew that

im kinda in the same boat as you, but i was wondering is dimwalk a 3 or 4 add? and how the fuck do i learn osis well

I'll take this a step further and say don't think about adds. If you think in terms of adds, then of course "higher add" tricks are going to seem harder, because of that mental barrier. Don't strive for high add tricks. Strive for tricks that you find fun.Roy wrote:Dat wrote:Work towards string length rather than add count.
Another mental trick that works for string length and linking basic 3s is to not count contacts, but rather rotations. So, for instance, butterfly > pdx mirage [repeat] is a good drill to integrate those basic tricks into your shred repertoire. But rather than counting that drill as 4 tricks, count a single rotation of all 4 tricks as one rotation. Try it. You will find linking these much more effortless.
